Chapter 37: Mob Fights the Pink-Haired Girl
“I had high expectations for you… or was I mistaken?”
The battle had barely begun.
I wasn’t sure how strong the prince and his group were in their current state, but at the very least, they weren’t amateurs. And yet, Charlotte had already taken down three of them with ease. That wasn’t something that should have been possible under normal circumstances.
I already knew she was strong from the game, and I had fought her with everything I had in our duel. I thought I understood her strength.
But even now, she had no weaknesses.
Even in a fight against multiple opponents, she was this overwhelming. She truly was the perfect villainess.
(I always fought monsters one-on-one. Never trained for fighting multiple enemies… and now it’s coming back to bite me.)
The monsters around Haralua were mid-game level. For someone like me, with low stats, even a single hit could be fatal.
That’s why I always fought one-on-one, making sure I was never in a position to be overwhelmed. If other monsters showed up mid-fight, I’d just escape using Coward’s Cloak.
Since I didn’t have a level system, experience points were meaningless to me. And Freesia Academy’s entrance exam didn’t test for multi-opponent combat either—so I never learned.
In other words, I had almost no experience fighting multiple enemies at once.
“Sigh... That wasn’t even enough to count as a warm-up. I suppose I’ll join in as well.”
Saying that, Charlotte cast a cold gaze at the fallen prince and his men.
She probably meant every word—this hadn’t even been a warm-up for her.
With effortless precision, she twirled her spirit sword, Gilbert, before stabbing it into the ground.
“J-Jessica! We have to end this before Charlotte joins in! Finish that guy off now!”
Kenneth shouted at Jessica before launching a full-powered spell in my direction.
I deflected the blade of water with my sword and sprinted toward him—only for Jessica’s sharp blade to come swinging at me from the side.
I barely managed to block it, rolling away to put some distance between us.
“I won’t let you lay a finger on Prince Kenneth…”
“You sure you have time to be talking? If she joins in, this fight is over.”
“…Tch! I know that!”
Jessica shouted, frustration clear on her face.
She had never considered the possibility of losing.
Charlotte’s sudden entrance had thrown the battlefield into chaos, completely shifting the momentum of the fight.
(That said, I’d rather not have Charlotte jumping in right now either…)
[What’s the plan, Master? If you go all out, that pink-haired girl will be down in no time…]
(I don’t want to waste too much energy before fighting Charlotte and Gilbert.)
[Thought so.]
This was just a mock battle—not a duel where I had to fight for my life or honor.
I had nothing to lose.
But Charlotte had always made one thing clear—she had no interest in weak men.
And for someone like me, who wanted nothing more than to form an alliance with her, losing here wouldn’t exactly be ideal.
(Lana, put everything you have into attacking.)
[Huh? Are you sure? Spells are flying at us from all directions, you know?]
(There’s no point in dragging this fight out. I’ll handle it, so you focus purely on attacking.)
[“Handle it,” you say… You don’t have a real plan, do you?]
(Unfortunately for you, I’m the kind of guy who trusts his instincts.)
[Ahaha! Bringing logic into a battle is nonsense anyway. That one’s on me. So then… I’ll go all out and break them, okay?]
(Within reason.)
Lana was in spirit sword form, so I couldn’t see her face—but just from the excitement in her voice, I could already picture her grinning with that wild, predatory look.
Most of the time, she acted all proper, constantly scolding me about my reckless behavior.
But the moment a fight started, she turned into a full-blown battle maniac.
People say spirits are a reflection of their contractor’s soul.
But I wasn’t particularly fond of fighting.
Maybe that was why we fit so well together—because in some way, both of us were missing a piece of ourselves.
(Alright… Let’s do this.)
[Yeah!]
I kicked off the ground, closing the distance between me and Jessica.
I had already given up on taking down Kenneth first.
I’d still keep an eye out for any openings to attack him and use that to throw Jessica off balance, but I wasn’t going to turn my back on her anymore.
From this point on, my only focus was attacking.
“Ugh…! H-He’s fast…!?”
“Don’t underestimate me…! Even if it’s two against one, there’s no way I’ll lose to someone like you…!”
Bringing in allies meant she at least understood the difference in strength between us.
Fine, I’d give her credit for that.
But using them as a shield while acting all high and mighty?
That was just pathetic.
I wasn’t saying every protagonist had to be some kind of noble warrior.
But in MagiRom, this kind of behavior was unacceptable.
I’d set things right. This was justice.
The will of the gods—or rather, the creator of this world.
If that director knew what had become of their creation, they’d be furious.
So I’d deliver judgment in their place.
I drove my sword into the ground—
And in an instant, countless icicles erupted around Jessica, all pointed directly at her.
Then, all at once, they came crashing down.
“T-This many…!?”
“You really didn’t care enough to learn anything about me, huh? If you’d at least done your research, this fight might’ve been a little more interesting.”
“As if something like this…! Of course I can block it…!”
Jessica quickly conjured a wall of light around herself.
But it wasn’t enough.
She couldn’t block all of my icicles—while none of them landed a fatal blow, several grazed her, tearing parts of her uniform and leaving fresh cuts on her skin.
“Ugh…!”
“Jessica! How dare you—!”
Kenneth, enraged, retaliated by launching a barrage of water blades.
But without Jessica, he was nothing more than a weak magician.
I swung my sword in a wide arc, and in an instant, every single water blade froze mid-air before shattering and falling to the ground.
“This is the end.”
I cast an ice spell toward Kenneth, freezing his limbs in place.
With that, the fight was over.
Or rather…
This was just the opening act.
“Fufu… I thought you were in trouble for a moment, but as expected, you really are magnificent.”
Charlotte rose to her feet and walked toward me with perfect, graceful movements.
A victorious smile played on her lips—one that only true warriors could wear.
From the Gilbert in her hand, black lightning crackled, sending sharp sparks through the air.
“You know… I could just surrender right now and call it my loss.”
“Oh my, what a dull thing to say. Not that I would ever allow it, of course.”
“As much as I’d like to avoid getting on Lady Maxwell’s bad side, I suppose I don’t have much of a choice.”
“Fufufu… Then take up your sword and fight me. After all—true pleasure lies at the peak of an all-out battle.”
…Was she always this much of a berserker character?
In the game, she always came across as the type who avoided fights just because they were a hassle.
But now? She was practically itching for a battle.
Well, not like I had the time to dwell on that.
Unlike our first fight—where she barely acknowledged me—this time, we both had a decent understanding of each other’s abilities.
That meant this fight was going to be even tougher than before.
But…
(I absolutely can’t lose… As her owner, I need to remind this wild cat exactly who she belongs to.)
[That’s only if Charlotte still enjoys being tamed, though~]
Lana, as usual, responded to my serious resolve with a completely unserious remark.
—And with that, the real battle began.

No turn-0 ults, they were just that weak…
