Chapter 15: Mob Talks to His Spirit
“Lana, huh… Looking forward to working with you, Lana.”
[Yep♪]
Lana beamed at me with a cheerful smile, and the light that had been surrounding us slowly faded away.
When I looked around, we were back in the same training hall as before, with Lana standing right in front of me.
It felt like we had been in that glowing space for a long time, but from what I had heard, that place was a special realm where only spirits and their contractors could enter. Time probably flowed differently there.
[Alright, let’s get this contract started! Come, give me your hand!]
“Okay.”
[Here, touch!]
The moment Lana touched my hand, a glow spread from our right hands.
A beautiful pattern—almost like a magical crest—appeared, shining brightly.
This was probably proof that our contract was complete.
“You done, Edward?”
As I stared blankly at the crest on my hand, the teacher approached.
In his hand was a piece of paper with an unusual color.
“Yeah, I think everything’s fine.”
“We’ll go over your abilities later. For now, just show me the crest on your hand.”
“Yes.”
I held out my hand, and the teacher placed the paper on my palm.
Immediately, the pattern on my hand transferred onto the paper, like a print.
Apparently, they recorded these crests to study past spirit contracts and see if similar spirits had existed before.
“That’s it. Head back to the others.”
“Understood.”
As I walked back to Hank’s side, I noticed him grinning at me.
There was a teasing glint in his eyes, making me feel a little uncomfortable.
“…What?”
“They say spirits reflect their contractor’s heart, right? So… you into little girls or something?”
Hey, that’s rude!
Hank’s words were so blunt that I was left speechless.
[Ohh? So Master has a thing for little girls, huh? Well, in that case, I don’t count since I am a mature, grown-up lady.]
“Lana, no matter how you look at it, you’re a kid. Calling yourself a grown woman is pure delusion. You should take a good look at yourself in the mirror.”
[Whoa—! That’s kinda harsh, Master! But for your information, I’m totally gonna grow up in all sorts of ways from now on!]
“Yeah, except spirits don’t age. No matter how many years pass, you’ll stay exactly the same.”
[Uu…! Master, you meanie!]
Lana pouted and grumbled, but I just ignored her.
Meanwhile, Hank let out a wry chuckle and stepped in to mediate.
Hal had already disappeared back into Hank’s soul, so he wasn’t around anymore.
“Hey, looks like the teacher’s about to start talking.”
Hank pointed ahead, where the teacher—who had been quietly looking through documents—finally lifted his head and started walking toward us.
I stopped chatting and turned to face him.
“Good work, everyone. That’s it for today. Take some time to talk with your spirits and get to know them. Starting tomorrow, we’ll begin training with spirit swords, so be prepared. Dismissed.”
At the teacher’s signal, our classmates started leaving the training hall in groups, chatting as they went.
Meanwhile, Hank and I remained seated on the ground.
“Well, I guess I should get going.”
“Hey, come on, Edward. We’re roommates, aren’t we? Let’s head back together.”
“I have something I need to check first. You go on ahead.”
“That so? Alright, then I’ll see you back at the room.”
Hank raised a hand in a casual wave before walking off.
I gave him a small nod and stood up, turning my gaze to Lana.
“Let’s go, Lana.”
[Roger that~!]
And with that, Lana and I left the training hall.
◇◆◇
The place we arrived at was a private training room reserved for students.
Normally, these rooms filled up quickly since most students wanted to test their new spirit swords right after forming a contract.
But I had anticipated this and made a reservation in advance.
Stepping inside, I found the space to be fairly spacious.
“Alright, Lana. First things first, tell me more about yourself.”
[Sure! What do you wanna know?]
“The most important thing—your abilities.”
I needed to understand her powers as soon as possible and master them to their full potential.
If I didn’t, I would never stand a chance against the main characters of this world.
[My element is ice! I can freeze things and use ice to attack.]
“I see… ice, huh?”
I was familiar with all the ice-based magic and skills from the game.
But this wasn’t a game.
That meant there was room to develop original spells and techniques—maybe even find creative ways to use her abilities beyond just combat.
“For now, can you transform into a weapon?”
[Got it! Here I go!]
The moment she spoke, Lana’s body was enveloped in a glow, and her form began to shift.
In the next instant, she transformed into a stunningly beautiful sword, as clear as ice.
The long, slender blade reflected the light, sparkling brilliantly.
I slowly reached out and gripped the sword, pulling it free.
Just like Hank had said—power surged from deep within me.
“Hmm… this is pretty good…”
[We spirits can communicate with our contractors just by thought when we’re in weapon form. As long as you’re touching me, I can pick up on what you’re thinking and assist you automatically. It all comes down to practice and trust.]
“I see. Then, let’s give it a swing.”
As I swung the sword, a sharp whoosh cut through the air, and an icy blade shot out from the tip.
It reacted on its own. That’s pretty convenient.
I dragged the blade lightly across the ground, and frost spread instantly, freezing the surface.
“Interesting ability. How much power can you output?”
[If I went all out indoors, you’d freeze solid too, you know? I really don’t want our contract to end in less than a day because my Master turned into an ice sculpture.]
“Then do your best to make sure I don’t die, Lana.”
[Die? You’re still a student, right? It’s not like you’re in any real danger.]
Lana released her weapon form and returned to her human shape, tilting her head in confusion.
Hal had mentioned before that spirits only understood basic surface-level information about their contractors.
Since Lana was going to be my partner for life, maybe it was best to tell her the truth from the start.
“I have no intention of dying, but the possibility is very real.”
[Why? What, are you planning to run onto a battlefield or something?]
“No. I plan to create the battlefield.”
[…Huh? I have no idea what you’re talking about.]
Lana’s expression grew even more confused.
Well, I didn’t want to start some grand war that would drag innocent people into it.
But honestly, just challenging the protagonist’s party was already the same as going up against an entire nation.
Their growth speed was beyond abnormal—so much so that, eventually, they could even rival the Demon Lord himself.
“We have to become the strongest. I’m going to crush every last one of those bastards and reshape this world—not into what it should be, but into what I want it to be.”
[Uh… Master…? You’re kinda sounding like a villain right now… This is getting a little scary…]
“Like a villain? No, you’re mistaken. I am the villain—the worst possible enemy for the fate of this world. I swore to destroy every single thing that binds it.”
[N-Nope, nope, nope! That’s impossible! There’s no way I can go along with something like that! No way!]
“It’s not about whether you can or can’t. It’s about whether you will or won’t. And you’re my partner. Since I’ve made up my mind, you’re with me until the very end.”
[………]
Lana’s mouth hung open in shock, completely at a loss for words.
Too bad for her—this was already decided.
As my partner, she had no choice but to see this through to the end.
[I refuse! No way! I wanted to be a heroine of justice, not some villain’s sidekick!]
“Listen, in this world, the one who wins becomes justice. So all we have to do is win.”
[If it were that easy, no one would struggle! And I don’t want to hear any more villain talk! What if we lose?]
“Then we’ll go down in history as the worst criminals of all time. Simple as that.”
[That’s the worst bad ending ever!]
Honestly, who cared about what people thought of you after you died?
Once you were dead, that was it.
Well… in my case, I somehow ended up getting a second life in this world.
But I was pretty sure my situation was a rare exception.
[I—I never should’ve signed this contract…!!!]
Lana’s miserable wail echoed through the private training room.
◇◆◇
And so, time passed once again.
In the main academy building, where most of the nobles studied, I stood face-to-face with someone in the hallway.
“So, in short—let’s have a duel.”
The person in front of me locked eyes with mine, their sharp black pupils filled with quiet hostility.
At this point, there was no turning back.
Prepare yourselves, you so-called love interests (trash)…
Until the day I destroy the fate that binds this world—!
Really? A loli? Not a hot MILF spirit? Or at least an onee-san spirit? If I was me, I would’ve wanted one of those options. Oh well. And I wonder if the ice attribute is because MC’s heart has turned cold? What would he have been able to get if he hadn’t changed a couple of chapters ago?
And poor Lana-chan is going to become known as the Evil Mob Lord’s Spirit Sword forever and ever. How sad. Good luck, Lana-chan! ♪
there is no need grand villain announcement they are the some cheap villains, he is the real hero
Not gonna lie, though. Kinda feel bad for Lana-chan. If they lose, she’ll be labeled as the spirit sword of a villain forever, and since she’s a spirit, she’ll have to live with that consequence, while MC dies and doesn’t have to worry about such things afterwards.
