Reincarnated as a Dungeon Master, I Became Unstoppable by Doting on My Monsters—My Gorgeous Monsters Have Started to Conquer the World on Their Own! - Chapter 14.1: First Conversation
“*Sigh* Finally, I can speak. I might as well tell you now! You’ve been giving me such tedious orders! I’ve wanted to leave this dungeon for so long!”
Anima said, shaking with anger, and threw her bag at me.
“You treated me like a child, and I only approached you for that because you wouldn’t give me items unless I buttered you up. Besides, isn’t it all your fault that I couldn’t speak because you didn’t give me the skill?”
The ever-clinging Rosarosa pushed me away, spitting out her words.
“Whoa!”
I woke up in a cold sweat, jumping out of my bed.
XXX
“So? You want to talk to the monsters, but you’re afraid because they might hate you?”
The room, designed like a library, was Jacqueline’s newly established private room in “Lagnel’s Labyrinth.”
When she mentioned being envious of our monsters’ rooms, I surprised her with this room as a gift. However, she chastised me for being wasteful when I showed it to her.
But she seemed to love the bed amongst all the furniture I had set up, and she mostly slept there every night.
In just a week, she installed many bookshelves and started displaying her beer label collection in frames on the wall. It’s already more well-appointed than my room, so I assume she appreciated the gift.
I knocked on Jacqueline’s door early in the morning, like a child who had a nightmare and couldn’t sleep.
Yet, she responded to my concerns with a cold, snorting laugh.
“Right now, I’m researching how language skills are used in your dungeon… Do you expect me to do something about your troubles? Should I tell you a present that would make a girl happy?”
With that, she slammed shut a thick hardcover book.
“I’m… I’m so sorry!”
I hurriedly bowed my head. Over the past few days, the power balance between Jacqueline and me, which was already tilted, had started to lean even more. That shift was partly due to her caring nature and… the cuteness of the monsters in our dungeon.
After the art class, she began visiting our dungeon as a guest instructor. There, she’s in charge of teaching the “Fundamental Battle Strategies of This World.”
This was a topic I had been wanting to incorporate into the lessons. While I could lecture about battles from my previous world, it was essential also to understand the theories specific to this world.
Of course, it’s beneficial for countering the enemy’s tactics, but according to Jacqueline, it’s also helpful in disguising our unusual dungeon as ordinary.
…However, even though it’s about fundamental strategies, she was naturally a monster, so she needed additional studies to lecture about strategy beyond that of demons. As a result, she’s been diligently researching every morning from early on.
And so, I felt indebted to her, who works tirelessly for our sake.
Of course, I understand that our strength is connected to her greatest wish, but I believe that our current good relationship is not just built upon that alone.
“…Sigh. Please don’t worry. It’s not going to be like that. Didn’t Anima express her feelings for you through her drawing?”
However, the kind Jacqueline always looked after me, even when I was constantly causing her trouble. When I jokingly called her ‘big sis’ or ‘mom,’ she angrily asked me if I was making fun of her age with a severe tone.
Still, it was a relief. At least it didn’t seem like any nasty rumors had reached Jacqueline.
…She has been particularly close with Anima since that art class. Indeed, Anima could communicate through her drawings, making communication easier.
“But, because of my lack of knowledge, they couldn’t speak for ten years, right? Isn’t it said that when infants start to speak, they stop crying at night? I think not being able to speak is a lot of stress.”
Yet, I still couldn’t feel at ease.
Yes, they should’ve been able to speak with just one skill, but I forced them into a state of being unable to converse. Ten years is far too long to make up for.
Seeing me tormented by guilt, Jacqueline, with an exasperated look, pressed the pen she held against her temple.
“You see… there’s typically no need to make monsters acquire language skills. If they get angry with this, it’s an educational failure. Please punch me.”
…According to her, there aren’t many dungeon masters who wish to converse with monsters.
While some might want to converse with humanoid monsters for comfort, it seems typical for masters to think it’s enough if animal-type demons follow commands.
But, “please punch me”? A despondent Jacqueline was alarming, but she convinced me that “everything will be alright on the day.”
And then, the next day. Thirteen monsters were gathered, waiting to acquire their language skills.
All eyes were on me. I usually wouldn’t mind such attention, but I felt I was being blamed for some reason. However, I couldn’t start with, “Well, dungeon masters usually don’t give monsters language skills! I didn’t realize!” as a defense.
…Alright! I need to brace myself. If they resent me, I can only apologize until I’m forgiven.
First, I need to decide who will learn the language skills. To avoid establishing any hierarchy, I usually decide on a whim.
Hazel was the first monster I created, but I’ve made a rule not to discuss the sequence unless it’s just us. There was a significant disagreement about it once, and strict warnings were issued afterward.
I looked at each monster’s face to decide who would acquire the language skill first. …Alright, I’ve decided.
“Let’s start with Angeline. She’s good with languages.”
When I said that, a beautiful white-armored figure silently raised her hand and moved to the front.
Angeline. I call the angelic monster Angeline Spinett by that name. She’s a D-ranked, unique monster, Radueriel.
By the way, Radueriel is the name of an angel worshipped on Earth in a past life, but she only imitates the angel I described; she’s not the actual Radueriel.
Unique monsters can imitate designs from Earth, so many of my demons are Earth-designed.
This world doesn’t have Earth’s famous monsters like Fenrir or goblins. They have entirely different famous monsters.
…Anyway, back to Angeline. The first thing to note is her stunning appearance. With splendid wings and white porcelain armor adorned with gold… She’s not wearing anything under that armor.
To sum it up, a winged armor figure is Angeline’s appearance. The armor has a feminine design, perfectly capturing Angeline’s elegant nature.
The reason I chose Angeline is that she could write a little bit in Japanese.
… Let’s go back in time. Ten years ago, I learned that the language skills obtained through DP didn’t include writing, and I was disheartened because I couldn’t communicate with them through writing. Even if I tried to teach them, I didn’t know the Etina script, which was impossible.
However, once Angeline learned about the existence of writing, she took personal lessons from me. By learning corresponding words in Japanese and Etina, she could communicate in broken Japanese through writing. She’s very diligent.
…In the future, she might not need her Japanese skills since they can converse, but I firmly believe her experience will be useful.
