- Chapter 23 - The Empress and the Boss
The Empress splashed hot tea on the Boss’s head, and the Subordinate reached for her pistol.
The Boss, restraining her, was met with clear dissatisfaction from the Subordinate.
“Boss, what exactly is your relationship with this woman?” the Subordinate asked, glaring at the Empress with annoyance.
After a moment of thought, the Boss replied, “She’s just a senior from my school days.”
“That can’t be!” The Subordinate was indignant.
Laughing at this, the Empress replied, “That’s the truth.”
“Was dumping tea on me also a continuation of our school days?” she said, smiling amusingly.
“This guy…” The Subordinate muttered, wiping the Boss’s head with a handkerchief.
“Boss, was she always doing this to you when you were a student?” the Subordinate inquired.
The Boss honestly answered, “Yeah.”
“By the way,” the Empress began, her face void of a smile.
“Why did you disappear from my life?” she asked, staring intently at the Boss.
The Boss averted his gaze from the Empress.
“It was just because of my parents’ situation that I transferred schools. It’s unusual but not unheard of, right?”
The Subordinate was slightly surprised that the Boss had parents’ circumstances, too.
“Even so, you left without saying a word to me. I loved you so much; I was your first, and furthermore…!!”
Gradually heating up, the Empress was interrupted as Boss opened her mouth.
“Perhaps, but your obsession and violence were abnormal. A mere mortal like me couldn’t possibly endure it.”
At those words, the Empress spat out a single word, “Annoying.”
“Indeed, I may have been violent towards you. But you surely enjoyed it at that time. I could never miss that expression on your face.”
Boss sighed.
“Well, that’s a story of the past. How about we go out for a meal sometime again? For today, let’s call it a day.”
As Boss hurriedly stood up to leave, the Empress pressed down on her shoulders with both hands.
“I won’t let you escape,” she whispered in Boss’s ear with a slight laugh.
“I came here today to free you from this tiny cage.”
The Empress began to speak.
“Aren’t you bored? What can you do within such a tiny organization?”
“I know your strength well. We can turn any dream into reality if you and I join forces. That’s why I fell for you. Indeed, my way of expressing love might have been a bit twisted. But it was youthful folly. We can start over now. So, come to me. Are you worried about your subordinates? If so, I’ll ensure they won’t lack anything. So…”
Boss’s expression darkened. The response Boss was about to give was predetermined, yet she anticipated what the Empress might do to them.
She wanted to avoid recklessly endangering her comrades with her response.
Sweat trickled down Boss’s temples.
Observing this, the subordinate kept a close watch.
“It’s okay.”
The subordinate muttered a voice that reached only Boss’s ears.
“Is that so?” Boss muttered back.
Boss was about to decline the invitation by interrupting the Empress’s heated speech.
“Although I appreciate your invitation, Senior, I must decline. You seem to have too much faith in me, but I doubt I can serve you. Besides, I like this organization.”
The subordinate showed a slight smile at those words.
“Is that so… Well, I thought you might say that,” the Empress muttered in disappointment.
Then, facing Boss once more, the Empress spoke.
“So, if this organization no longer existed, would you come to me then?”
In those dark, murky eyes, there was nothing but hatred and intent to kill.
Boss steeled herself, knowing the real battle was just beginning.
