Chapter 23- Operation Souji

As they all agreed, right after the detective league was formed, the three of them started following Souji.

Finally, after school. A tense mood set in as they hung out in front of a convenience store.

Maybe it was because she couldn’t tell a lie, or maybe it was because she was also an idiot. Generally, Kohaku usually picked up a combination of soda and snacks, but today she had a traditional takeout set of Anpan and milk.

“Kohaku, you’re not drinking Coke today, what happened?”

“Heyaa!?”

Once Souji mentioned it, Kohaku made a crazy noise, as if an Ultraman flew over her.

She must be an idiot.

“E-exactly! I’m having milk instead of Coke today! What am I going to do if my breasts get any bigger? You’re being so annoying! I’ll sue you for sexual harassment!”

“You… I don’t remember you being such a flippant jokester.”

Kohaku was a serious person when it came to jokes, but at this moment she could only laugh dryly.

Natsuhiko and Miko wanted to be there to support her, but they were too busy doing their own thing.

She pretended to be quietly playing with her phone on the bench and kept touching her braids to avoid any unnecessary acting that might harm the operation.

“Were you guys ever that distant?”

“”What!””

Natsuhiko and Miko were caught off guard by the pretense.

“W-w-what are you talking about, Souji? It’s not like we are distant! I was just holding back my flirting in front of everyone. Because my world revolves around Miko-chan!”

“T-t-that’s right! I would love to be with Natsu-kun all day long! I’ve sworn to love him in good health and in sickness. I love Natsu-kun!”

Natsuhiko and Miko hugged each other tightly and demonstrated their love for each other, as they had to prove it as soon as possible.

“Certainly it looks normal, I wonder what that is…”

Souji muttered words that they didn’t know whether they should be honored or disgraced. But all of them smiled undauntedly at him.

He seemed to be feeling some kind of discomfort, but since he didn’t want to get into trouble, he just checked the time and stood up.

“Well, time for me to go.”

“Wait!”

Miko stopped Souji.

“Don’t you ever go home with Kanade-Senpai…?”

“Kanade? Yeah, she said she has a committee meeting today, so she asked me to go home first.”

“Are you sure you’re going straight home?”

Miko was as bold as she looked.

Even Souji couldn’t hide his bewilderment at Miko’s gaze. He knew how important she was to his friend Natsuhiko and his girlfriend Kanade, so he couldn’t treat her carelessly.

However, for a cool guy like him,

“I’m sorry about the Double Date.”

“No, it’s fine! I’m not mad at you…”

“I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”

Souji slightly bowed his head and looked from Miko to Natsuhiko.

“Natsuhiko is sturdy.”

“Do you mean me!?”

“Haha!”

At Natsuhiko’s predictable tsukkomi, Souji showed his white teeth and narrowed his eyes.

A very smart turnaround. Souji waved his hand and walked toward the station.

As Natsuhiko watched his back get smaller and smaller, he couldn’t help but wonder how many girls had been lost to that smile.

“Ahh, I’m so nervous… I haven’t been this shaken up in a long time.”

“In our case, we were just spinning our wheels…”

He would like to say this to Kohaku, but since there was a high possibility that a stronger Tsukkomi would come, Natsuhiko kept his mouth shut.

Though, it was not the time to be relaxing here.

The mission to follow Souji had begun.

Kohaku gobbled up the rest of the Anpan in one gulp, swallowed it down with milk, and stood up vigorously.

Her long, wide eyes were like those of a sniper.

Or more like a hitman.

“That damn Souji… If he’s having an affair, then I’ll…”

“What if he’s having an affair?”

“I’ll crush it.”

“Hiii…!”

As if she was going to avenge her parents, she crumpled up the bag of Anpan and squashed it up as hard as she could.

Instinctively, Natsuhiko covered his crotch as fast as he could.
