"Please support me on Ko-fi! Thank you!"
Chapter 51: Miko-chan Emergency
That night, after barely escaping with his life, Natsuhiko returned home.
He was supposed to be bragging to his sister about their happy sugary date.
He was ‘supposed to’.
“A florist? Impossible!”
“I’m not lying. Mii-chan’s father is a florist!”
In the living room, after dinner, Nina revealed a shocking fact to Natsuhiko, which made him absurdly raise his voice.
The topic of conversation was not about their date, but rather about Miko’s father.
Natsuhiko thought back to her father’s appearance, but he could only imagine him in a tank top rather than a florist’s apron. Instead of holding a bouquet, he could only imagine him lifting a bench press.
“Isn’t the florist just a disguise, and he could be an underground fighter or an assassin…?”
“Natsu-nii, you read too many comic books.”
“No, no, no, no, even if I have a manga brain, you can’t deny that they look different, like a lion raising a rabbit!”
“Mii-chan inherited her mother’s looks.”
“Well… if you put it that way… I guess you’re right.”
When they were kids, he had met Miko’s mother several times.
She was a petite woman like Miko, and she looked so young that he used to believe that she was Miko’s older sister.
“Isn’t that right?” Nina, at her own pace, retrieved the Coke that Natsuhiko was drinking and slowly poured it into the vanilla ice cream that she was having.
“And Mii-chan’s father used to be more handsome.”
“Ehh?”
“I think it was about five years ago. I heard that Mii-chan’s father had suddenly started going to the gym.”
Natsuhiko had a bad feeling about this.
“Perhaps the reason might have something to do with… me?”
“Hmm, I don’t know. According to Mii-chan, it was one of those ‘I need to work out things.’ ”
“I’m pretty sure, it was to kill me!”
His premonition changed into certainty, and Natsuhiko was thrown into the depths of despair.
To protect his daughter. It was just unbelievable that a man who used to be so slender was now clad in the armor of muscles and was trying to tear Natsuhiko to pieces.
He was jealous of his sister who was sitting right in front of him saying, “Cola float is delicious~♪”
No matter how much he envied her, nothing would change.
He doesn’t remember earning her father’s resentment, but he does remember having wronged.
Especially when it comes to the fact that Natsuhiko was the most important factor.
” I guess the scariest thing was when she changed her career path because of me…”
“Hmm… It’s hard to deny…”
“Yeah…”
Natsuhiko nodded his head in disappointment.
In his mind, he replayed the words he had heard from Miko the other day in the park at sunset.
“I went to the same high school to confess my feelings to you.”
In order to confess her feelings, she went to Natsuhiko’s high school instead of the preferred school, despite her father’s disapproval.
Miko said she had no regrets whatsoever, and Natsuhiko wants to do everything he can to help her not regret it.
But
“If my daughter told me she wanted to go to a high school with a guy she liked, I would be very much against it.”
From her father’s perspective, it was pretty much the same.
Miko’s father was not mean and did not think badly of their relationship. In fact, Natsuhiko knew that he was hostile because he cared for his daughter.
“Well, from a father’s point of view, it’s true. She would be entrusting her life to a stranger.”
“What stranger? You… I’m her best friend’s brother, you know that.”
“It might make a bad impression on him… It seems her friend’s brother has been messing with her.”
“You’re right… But… Whose side are you on?”
“No matter what happens, Nina is always on Mii-chan’s side.”
“… That’s a 100 point answer for a best friend…”
She grinned and said, “I’m still at my own pace.”
Still, she was neither thoughtless nor her brother’s enemy.
“I think we have to take our time to solve these problems.”
“Take our time?”
“Yeah, yeah. If you keep showing her father how much you care about her, he’ll understand that you’re serious.”
“I see. You have a point.”
“Right? ‘Even a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step’ and ‘even dust becomes a mountain if piled together’ and ‘Start small and work your way up’.”
“Don’t mix up the Master’s words with your own…”
Although his sister’s personality was mixed in, her advice was spot on.
“… Guess, there’s no point in dwelling on it.”
“That’s what I’m saying ♪”
It was a complicated problem that couldn’t just be solved overnight.
You should spend more time thinking about concrete solutions, instead of continuing to worry about it.
Natsuhiko folded his arms and groaned.
“First of all, what do I have to do to gain his trust?”
“Why don’t you start by working out, Natsu-nii?”
“Why?”
“In case of ‘if you want my daughter, you must defeat me first’.”
Natsuhiko muttered, “Such a Showa-era thing…”
But then he remembered Miko’s father’s mononofu-like muscles.
“Yeah… I think I can at least do some push-ups and squats.”
“I’ll help you with that.”
The day when you first decide to do something is wonderful. Natsuhiko bowed his head and began to do push-ups on the spot.
With Nina on his back eating ice cream.
“Guuh… It’s getting harder.”
He was on the third push-up when he hit his limit.
But then the intercom bell rang out.
Natsuhiko’s lightness returned to his body as Nina stood up.
He looked at the wall clock and saw that it was past 9 pm. Who could it be at this time of night?
A notice? A delivery service? Or perhaps a suspicious salesperson?
Natsuhiko’s doubts were blown away by Nina.
“Huh? Miko-chan?”
“Eh?”
The name of the person he hadn’t expected to hear, had caught him off guard.
This was not the time to be puzzled. Natsuhiko, who had rushed to the intercom to find out what was going on, looked at the screen.
Indeed, there was a clear image of Miko on the screen.
His heart twinged.
“Miko, chan…?”
When Natsuhiko saw Miko on the screen, he couldn’t help but hurry outside…
The innocent little girl was in tears.
Natsuhiko rushed out from the living room to the front door and opened the door with all his might.
“Miko-chan! What happened to you?”
“Natsu-kun…!”
Before he could ask, as soon as she saw his face. she hugged him as hard as she could,
With tears rolling down her face.
