- EP1. The princess stands in the pouring rain
I, Ebato Ren, am a first-year high school student who lives alone.
A short and humble self-introduction: my school life was one where it seemed like I almost didn’t exist.
What do I mean by that? Well, let me explain.
I’ve always been a background character and a pretty forgettable one at that.
For example, in a junior high graduation album, there was a group photo in which there were two of me. Yes, “two”. I should have been already photographed, but the teacher just edited me into a photograph later because he didn’t see me.
Sometimes people bumped into me, and they didn’t even notice, so we just walked by without apologizing to each other. I had people sit on me while I was sitting in my seat. There were other examples, but there was no end to them, so let’s not get into them.
In the first place, the other students and the foolish teachers couldn’t remember my face or name. Even my homeroom teacher asked me “Who are you?” when I was called into the staff room for some reason.
From this short explanation, you should understand how low-profile I was. Of course, I was a “Bocchi”. (loner)
Well, anyway, a Bocchi was a Bocchi, it didn’t matter to me. I didn’t have to worry about socializing, and I could concentrate on other things. But well, I’d say I was lonely when asked if I was lonely. Should I have talked to others? I couldn’t because if I didn’t shout at them, no one would notice me.
That’s why I was living a lonely school life.

And now, in September, the rain was pouring. It was raining heavily, and the winds were strong due to the typhoon hitting the area. There was no storm warning, so the school couldn’t be closed. You’re fucking kidding me, right?!.
On my way home, I saw a girl without an umbrella standing still near the road. She seemed familiar.
She had long, gorgeous blonde hair and white, unblemished skin. Her long eyelashes and two big blue eyes were extremely captivating. Her nose was straight, her lips small, and her yellow eyebrows were slender and gentle. Because she was half Japanese, she didn’t have colored contact lenses, and her looks were almost that of japanese person. She was wearing the same school uniform as me.
At school, she was known as the “princess”: excellent grades, outstanding in physical activities, and to make matters worse, she would put models to shame with her body proportions… and so on.
If I wasn’t mistaken, her name was Shirakawa Sayo. Her name was girlish, and her behavior dignified and graceful, so she was called the “princess” at school.
Attractive face and figure, doing well in school and sports, good manners… She was like that, but I wasn’t interested. We were just neighbors, no more, no less.
However, as you can imagine, I couldn’t just watch her standing still in the pouring rain without any cover. As I said, she didn’t notice when I called out, but fortunately, I was wearing a raincoat.
So, I pushed my umbrella into her hands and ran.
…Well, she didn’t know of my existence anyway. She’ll probably think that the umbrella just came out of nowhere, and I’ll never think about it again.
Or so I thought.
