Flora looked at me with warm, intent eyes — then clapped her hands together and stepped back, putting a little distance between us. She raised one finger with a playful expression.
“Before we get to the lovey-dovey part, I should probably explain what happens next, shouldn’t I?”
“Right. What do I need to do?”
“Nothing at all.”
Flora smiled.
That’s right.
I had no obligations. My only role as Flora’s husband was to focus on having children for her. The politics would be Flora’s domain. But even if only in form, a male Emperor was necessary.
That was me. My mere existence would be enough to save her.
And in return, I got to live out my days in the inner palace, taking it easy without a care in the world.
Though I doubted it would truly be nothing.
“Is there a wedding ceremony?”
“Oh, Kazuki-san — you want a wedding? I’ve always dreamed of one, actually. Wearing a wedding dress, standing beside the person you love, and swearing to be together forever… It’s so romantic, isn’t it?”
It seemed this world had a wedding culture not so different from Earth’s.
Though the “person you love” part —I wasn’t sure I’d be able to live up to that expectation.
Suppose she’d had the freedom to marry for love, a girl as bright and beautiful as Flora could have had any man she wanted. She might have found someone she truly loved.
Flora seemed to sense what I was thinking. She smiled gently.
“We can fall in love along the way.”
“…You’re right. That’s true.”
“And I have a feeling I’m going to fall completely in love with you, Kazuki-san.”
Flora laughed softly, her blue eyes sparkling.
I hoped so too.
For my part, I already had the sense that Flora was going to become someone very important to me.
She was exactly my type in terms of looks — no question there — but beyond that, her straightforward cheerfulness dazzled me. It put me at ease in a way I hadn’t expected.
Flora continued.
“The wedding is scheduled for next week.”
“Next week!? That’s… soon.”
“I know. Normally, a princess’s wedding would have a long guest list and months of preparation, but…”
“There’s a reason to rush.”
Flora’s expression dimmed slightly. She looked down.
“If we wait too long,” she said quietly, as if the words cost her something, “the noble houses and other countries might start objecting to Kazuki-san becoming Emperor. I want everything settled before that happens.”
“Ah. I see…”
“And if we don’t move quickly… some nobles might try to abduct me — and my younger sisters — and… force us to…” Her voice dropped. “…To carry their children.”
“What?”
“There are nobles who believe that if they create a fait accompli with an Imperial Princess — if they force the issue — they can claim the throne through marriage. And if that were to happen… I…”
Flora’s voice faded to almost nothing.
If it came to that, there would be nothing she could do. This wasn’t modern Japan — this world was closer to the medieval era.
If a nobleman forced himself on Flora and got her pregnant, that child would have a claim to the imperial succession. And if he then coerced her into marriage, a powerful noble could use that position to seize control of the Empire entirely.
A chill ran through me.
“…I will never let that happen.”
Flora stared at me, startled.
Then, slowly, a small and genuinely pleased smile crossed her face.
“You’re going to protect me? Thank you. Though — I do have my royal guard, so at least I won’t be attacked without warning. Please don’t worry too much.”
The implication, of course, was that depending on how things developed, abduction was still a real possibility.
That was exactly why the wedding had to happen quickly.
“If you want to protect me, there’s actually a very good way to do it.”
“What’s that?”
“Get me pregnant.”
Flora said it simply, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
She was right. If I had already given her a child, no noble could seize her and claim he’d gotten there first.
Flora looked up at me, her gaze soft and earnest.
Her face turned red — all the way to her ears.
“So… you can push me down right here, right now, and make a baby with me. If you want to.”

“B-But that’s…”
“There’s a bed right over there. And besides…” Flora’s eyes flicked up to mine. “You’ve been looking at me like that for a while now.”
“I — what!?”
“My chest. My legs…”
She wasn’t wrong. Flora’s slender figure was undeniably attractive. I couldn’t deny that I’d been sneaking glances.
Her face was refined but youthful — almost girlish — yet her figure told a different story entirely. The neckline of her gown framed her chest in a way that was impossible to ignore. The slit in her skirt offered glimpses of long, pale legs that seemed almost deliberately inviting. And her figure was generous in every direction…
I caught myself looking again — properly this time — and Flora, noticing my gaze, hurriedly covered her chest and lower body with her hands.
“See! I knew it!”
“S-Sorry.”
“No, don’t apologize. It means you find me attractive… honestly, I’m happier about it than anything.”
She said it shyly.
Then she stepped closer and rested her hand gently on my chest.
“Kazuki-san is my master now, after all… so my chest, my hips… you’re free to touch them whenever you like, you know?”
“F-Free to touch them whenever — isn’t that a bit much?”
Back in Japan, even a boyfriend or husband couldn’t just grab his partner without warning. He’d probably get slapped. Depending on the relationship, sure, but whenever you like was a stretch.
But Flora shook her head.
“I don’t mind anything from you, Kazuki-san. So please — I want you to give me a baby soon.”
Her whisper was dangerously persuasive. Pushing her back onto the bed right then and there — no one would have said a word against it.
I reached out and placed my hands gently on her shoulders. Flora shivered and closed her eyes.
I almost gave in.
But something flickered in the back of my mind.
“Um… Flora-san?”
“Y-Yes?”
“Is it actually… permitted here to do that sort of thing before the wedding ceremony?”
Flora’s expression crumpled into a sheepish, guilty smile.
Just as I thought.
There was probably a religious teaching — a church doctrine of some kind — that prohibited intimacy before marriage. How strictly it was enforced, I had no idea.
For ordinary commoners, maybe it was the kind of rule people quietly broke all the time.
And a powerful noble forcing himself on Flora before marriage could probably use sheer influence to justify it after the fact.
But Flora was an Imperial Princess, and I was no powerful noble.
Which meant it was better not to do anything that could create problems before I’d even been formally crowned. If Flora conceived before the wedding, there might even be questions about the legitimacy of the child as heir.
When I explained my reasoning, Flora looked genuinely impressed.
“You think quickly, Kazuki-san. And carefully.”
“Not particularly. I almost actually pushed you onto that bed.”
“Because you think I’m cute?”
“Exactly.”
I gave a wry smile and nodded. Flora laughed.
“Waiting until after the wedding, then. But I’m looking forward to it.”
There was one more thing that had been nagging at me, though.
Her age.
When I asked, Flora let out a small laugh.
“Asking a lady her age is quite rude, you know.”
“S-Sorry.”
“I’m joking. I just turned seventeen this month.”
I’d guessed somewhere in that range, but still. Back in Japan, she’d be a high school girl.
I was twenty-six—a nine-year gap.
And in Japan, doing anything with someone Flora’s age would… well. Even a genuine relationship between an adult and a teenager drew plenty of disapproving looks, let alone anything else.
When I explained how things worked back home, Flora stared at me in open astonishment.
“Your world sounds very strange, Kazuki-san.”
“You think so?”
“Of course. A girl of fifteen or seventeen — her body is already ready to carry a child. That’s the age when a woman is most suited for it, isn’t it?”
She wasn’t technically wrong. Even by modern Earth medicine, the late teens fell within the biological window for pregnancy. Society had chosen to set different standards — but purely from a physical standpoint, it was hard to argue with them.
According to Flora, marriage in this country typically happens between the late teens and early twenties.
“Still… it just feels wrong to me…”
“Even though you were looking at my body like that?“
“That’s — that’s different. Ethically speaking—”
Flora pressed her index finger gently to my lips.
The soft warmth of it made my heart skip a beat.
With her finger still resting there, she whispered.
“It may have been wrong in your world. But by this world’s standards, there’s nothing wrong with it at all. I even know a maid who got married at thirteen and became a mother.”
Then, slowly, she withdrew her finger from my lips.
And brought it to her own, drawing it across them with a small, unhurried motion.
The gesture was guileless as a child’s — and yet somehow deeply alluring. My pulse jumped.
“I can taste you, Kazuki-san…”
Before I could recover, Flora brought her lips close to my ear.
“I want to kiss you properly next time. But first… will you promise me? Promise that you’ll give me a baby — all of seventeen years old.”
“…All right. I promise. Because that’s what’s going to save you, Flora-san.”
“And because you want to do that sort of thing with me too, don’t you, Kazuki-san?”
Kazuki nodded without hesitation. There was no point denying it.
Flora smiled — bright and satisfied — and leaned in, touching her lips softly to his cheek.
Chu.
A gentle warmth. Something more captivating than the finger had been, and altogether different.
Flora drew back, smiling softly.
“I can’t wait for the wedding. Once that’s over… we get to do all those things together, don’t we, Kazuki-san?”
“So Flora-san wants to do those things too.”
“Yes.”
She nodded, a little bashfully.
I laughed under my breath.
“We don’t have to wait for the wedding for everything, you know.”
“What? But you’re the one who said we have to wait until after the ceremony to make a baby.”
“Making a baby — yes. Everything else is fair game.”
And with that, I pulled her close — unguarded as she was — and pressed my lips to hers. Firmly. Perhaps a little more boldly than she’d expected.
She’d been the one making all the moves up until now.
It was only fair that I returned the favor.
“Ah… mm…”
Flora let out a soft, sweet sound and melted into the kiss.
Her small lips felt like biting into ripe fruit — impossibly soft, impossibly warm.
When I finally pulled back, her face was flushed scarlet, her eyes unfocused and hazy as she stared up at me.
“Was that all right?” I asked.
“Yes… it’s just… it felt so good…”
She breathed the words out, barely audible, her cheeks burning.
Then she looked up at me — expectant, hopeful — and smiled.
“I started imagining… you touching my chest… and my hips… and making a baby together… I wonder if that will feel just as good… — kyah!“
I couldn’t hold back. I kissed her again.
And so it was that in another world, I got engaged to a beautiful girl — and made her a promise.
