Chapter 7 – I Wouldn’t Call That a Disguise
On my day off, I didn’t go outside, I stayed at home. On holidays, reading is the only way to go. The room was quiet and still when there was a knock at the door. But I was so absorbed in the world of the story that I didn’t notice the sound. After that, the knocking sounded again and again.
Well, it’s just about the end of the day, so I’m going to stop reading now—W-Why is she here!? I looked up and there was Mina-san, scurrying around the room.
“W-Why are you here, Mina-san? And you’ve broken a rule already?”
Mina-san sat on my bed with her arms folded.
“I didn’t break it. I kept knocking and you wouldn’t open the door.”
It’s my fault for not noticing, but…she totally broke the rule.
“I apologize for not noticing. But you broke a rule, didn’t you?”
“…I…didn’t.”
“If I remember correctly about breaking the rules, you should listen to whatever I say, right? Now, what should I have you do?”
I muttered as I put the book I was reading back on the shelf.
“Heh, if it’s something weird, I’ll refuse to do it.”
“Refuse? Those who break the rules don’t have the right to refuse.”
That said, what did she mean by something weird?
What does Mina-san think I’ll have her do?
“Okay, okay. So what do I have to do?”
“Well… Would you like to go shopping with me?”
“Shopping? In other words, Yuuto-kun, are you saying that you want me to carry a lot of luggage and buy what you want?”
No, what kind of guy does she think I am? I only asked her to go shopping with me…
“No. I want Mina-san to choose a present with me.”
“A present? For whom?”
“To my dad. It’s almost his birthday.”
“Koji-san’s birthday… I want to celebrate it too. Let’s choose a present together.”
I don’t think it’s a penalty for breaking the rules, but a penalty can be as loose as this.
“Then, shall we go now?”
“Ah, wait a minute. Wouldn’t it be very bad if people saw us going out? They’d think we were a couple, wouldn’t they? They might also find out we’re a family. Let’s disguise ourselves.”
“Disguise?”
What do you mean, disguise…? If we meet someone, just say we met each other by chance or something.
“Yes, disguise. Well then, we can’t leave the house at the same time, so we’ll meet in front of the station at 10 a.m.”
“Ah—She went out already!”
The conversation proceeded on its own and Mina-san left the room. I just stood there in a daze, unable to say what I wanted to say.
“Disguise…huh?”
***
I left the house 30 minutes before the meeting time, maybe a little too early, but I left before Mina-san. I wore a gray t-shirt and black trousers instead of brightly coloured ones. I didn’t do my hair, but put on a black hat.
Even if it’s a disguise, I have to keep it to the point where I won’t be called a pervert.
Now, I wonder what Mina-san, who suggested we disguise ourselves, is going to look like… I was checking the time on my phone when I heard footsteps.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Yuuto-kun.”
“Ah, yeah. I didn’t wait that lo—”
I stiffened when I saw what Mina-san was wearing. A dark blue cardigan over a white dress. And a gray hat. She was also wearing glasses.
It’s a different vibe than usual, but Mina-san is still cute in any outfit. She looks really nice…
But is this meant to be a disguise?
I can recognise Mina-san from a distance.
“Yuuto-kun?”
“Oh, sorry, I was disoriented. More importantly, can you really say that’s a disguise? You look just like the usual Mina-san when I look at you…”
If it’s a disguise, don’t you have to come dressed so that you’re more like someone else?
“It’s okay, it’s okay. Why don’t we decide what to call each other when we’re out? If I call you Yuuto-kun, others might find out.”
“That’s true.”
“Well, let’s see… For Yuuto-kun, is Yuu-kun okay? For me, you should call me Mii-chan.”
Mii-chan… No, no, no, it’s very hard to call her that. I imagined us calling each other Yuu-kun and Mii-chan, but we would look like lovebirds.
“Negative. Let’s still call each other like usual. There are plenty of people with the same name. If they recognise us, we can do something about it then.”
“Well, if Yuto-kun says so. Then, let’s go buy Koji-san’s birthday present.”
If I told my friends that I went out with Mina Tachikawa, they would probably be envious of me… With this in mind, I headed to the shopping mall to pick out a present with Mina-san.
