Chapter 5 – Rules Only for Both of Us
After the luggage was packed up and the four of us had dinner together, I went back to my room, as usual…
Now, after doing my assignment…
I was going up the stairs to my room on the second floor, thinking in my head about what I was going to do until I went to bed, when someone pulled my clothes on from behind.
“Yuuto-kun, can I have a word?”
“Hmm? What’s wrong?”
Without looking back, I went up the stairs. Mina-san followed me up the stairs. When I reached the second floor, I looked back.
T-This is dangerous…
I couldn’t take my eyes off Mina-san’s unfamiliar outfit in front of me.
It looks like she just got out of the bath. She had wet hair, and she was wearing cute pajamas and glasses. There probably isn’t a boy who doesn’t get nervous when he sees this. I think she’s so cute that I cannot look at it.
So she wears glasses at home. I think that living at home has allowed me to learn things that I could not have learned at school.
I don’t know if it’s the shampoo, but it smells like something good…
When I was silent for a while and looked at Mina-san, Mina-san looked into my face with a grin.
“Hmm, are you mesmerized by any chance?”
Calm down…
This is something that even guys who don’t like her will have the same reaction to.
“Of course not.”
When I responded without any emotion, Mina-san looked miffed because it wasn’t the reaction she wanted.
“Good. I wouldn’t want you to fall in love with me over something like this. Anyway, Yuuto-kun, I have a suggestion.”
Suggestion… Am I the only one who has a bad feeling about this?
“I have a bad feeling about this, but I’m going to ask you just in case.”
“Can you keep that in your mind?”
“Okay, I’ll be patient next time. So what’s this suggestion you’re talking about?”
When I asked her that, Mina-san put her hands on her hips and looked at me.
“I want to make rules for the two of us so that we can be a family… What do you think?”
Rules?
I have no idea what kind of rules she’s going to make…
“What rules, for example?”
“Well… For example, don’t tell about my secret to our family, friends or anyone else. Another is we should keep it a secret that we’ve become family. And as I said before, there shouldn’t be any romantic feelings between family members. And then—”
“Hey, wait a minute. I don’t mind you keeping the fact that we’re family a secret, but you don’t have to make it a rule that you’re hiding your real self. Mina-san is the only one who can’t be bothered to tell the truth.”
“That’s true, but suppose they find out and I become an outcast at school. Then, of course, my family would be worried, right? And people will say that ‘Mina is…blablabla…’ And our family will be in danger of falling apart, right? That’s why it should be a rule.”
She’s so paranoid… I didn’t want to listen to the middle of the story, so I stopped listening halfway into the story.
“Well, if you want to do that, Mina-san, go ahead. And you mentioned three rules earlier, right? Then let me add three rules. Since these rules are only for me and Mina-san, of course I have the right to add them, don’t I?”
“Yes, yes, you have the right. So, Yuuto-kun, what rules do you want?”
This rule is necessary for being a family.
Then—
“Knock when entering a room. Absolutely lock the door when you take a bath. And last but not least, help each other when they need help.”
“Help each other…?”
“We’ve become a family. If you are left alone with your problems, you will get into trouble later. Say what you want to say… Well, as you might expect, I don’t want to be asked to discuss something that only the girls can understand, but…”
I said that and kept talking.
“I don’t know what kind of person you are yet, Mina-san, but I know that you are the kind of person who tends to accumulate her worries.”
Mina-san creates an outside character, and when she has a bad day, she just smiles, laughs and hides it away without a care in the world. It was the same when I got to know the real Mina. She had so many worries that she had nowhere to vent them, so she would say what was on her mind when no one was around.
“I thought you weren’t interested in me, Yuuto-kun, but you’ve been watching me more than I thought…”
I gave a small nod to Mina-san, who smiled a little happily.
“Even if I hadn’t met you there, I would have known what kind of person you were. Miss Fake Honor Student.”
“Well, I might be wearing a facade in front of everyone, but it’s true that I have good grades.”
“Yes, yes, I know.”
“Now that it’s decided, we’ll follow these rules, right?”
“Yeah, of course.”
I turned my back on her while she was puffing out her cheeks and entered my own room.
