Chapter 22 – I Don’t Want You to Go
June 29th, three days before the exam, today was a holiday, so me and Mina-san were studying opposite each other at the dining room table at home. I was actually going to do it in my room, but I wanted Mina-san to teach me something, so we decided to do it here.
There are only two people in this house now, me and Mina-san. Dad and Kaho-san went somewhere together.
I put down the mechanical pencil in my hand and stretched out. Mina-san took her eyes off the textbook and leaned on her elbow to talk to me.
“Yuuto-kun, last time you were talking to Shirai-senpai in front of the station, right?”
“Eh…?”
How does Mina-san know that?
When I went home with senpai, that was two days ago, right?
Wasn’t Mina-san supposed to be home at that time of the day?
“I was waiting for the rain to stop at a café near the station. And when I left the café to go home, I saw the two of you…”
“Yes, we were together. Senpai and I sometimes go back to the station together.”
“Heh, I see… By the way, after the tests are over and the summer break is over, it’s time for the school cultural festival. I didn’t have anything like that in middle school, so I’m looking forward to the high school festival.”
The cultural festival, huh…
But, well, I’m looking forward to the festival too. I went to the festival at my current high school last year with friends, and I know what the atmosphere is like. The fact that the festival looks fun is one of the reasons why I chose this school.
“Before having fun, you have to do your best on the test. After this is over, it’s summer vacation…”
“Right. How do you plan to spend your summer holidays, Yuuto-kun? Are you going to be working a lot?”
“I have a part-time job, but I also have plans to hang out with Katayama and do other stuff. I’m not involved in club activities, so I do what I want to do. What about you, Mina-san?”
“I don’t do club activities, and I don’t work part-time, so I’m just going to hang out with my friends and study… I’m also thinking of getting a part-time job during the summer holidays. Are there any good places to work part time?”
“To work part time, huh…?”
That being said, the only place I could introduce her to is where I work part-time…
“Yes. Do you have somewhere in mind?”
“How about the place where I’m working part-time? If you prefer somewhere else, I’ll ask Shirai-senpai next time.”
“Thanks.”
After smiling and thanking me, Mina-san resumed her studies.

The test was finished and returned on July 12th.
“I’m home~”
I was watching TV in the living room when I heard Mina-san’s voice coming from the front door.
“Welcome back. How was your test?”
I was going to ask her in the classroom, but there was no time today when Mina-san was alone, so I couldn’t talk to her.
“Not bad, I got 812 marks in nine subjects. How about you, Yuuto-kun?”
Hah, 812!? …That means she got 90 per subject. Once again, I thought Mina-san was amazing. Compared to Mina-san, I…
“I-It’s not a score I can tell people about…so I’m not going to tell you…”
“Eh~, isn’t it unfair that I told Yuuto-kun my score but he’s not telling me? Well, I did just say it on my own…”
Mina-san took off her shoes and went up the house, and I followed her.
“Ah, come to think of it, when is your date with Shirai-senpai? Didn’t you say you were going after the test?”
When she reached the landing and passed in front of my room, Mina-san stopped and looked back. Incidentally, Mina-san’s room is farthest from the stairs and mine is nearer.
“It’s tomorrow. The test is over, and neither Shirai-senpai nor I have a part-time job tomorrow, so we’re going tomorrow.”
“Heh~, are you looking forward to it?”
“What?”
“Are you looking forward to going with Shirai-senpai?”
Mina-san asked me again, probably thinking I didn’t hear her. If you ask me, I’m looking forward to it, but I was worried about Mina-san’s situation.
“I’m…looking forward to it.”
“Is it because you’re going on a date with Shirai-senpai? Or because you will be able to see your favorite photographer’s pictures?”
“What…?”
I wondered why she would ask such a question. As I was thinking that, Mina-san came over to me and leaned against me.
“I don’t want you to go…”
What? Just now, Mina-san said she didn’t want me to go, right…?
She probably just said that to make fun of me again. So… But she’s really close… I looked down and saw Mina-san was gripping my clothes.
Looking at it up close like this, Mina-san’s hair is beautiful… It’s so smooth and silky that I want to touch it—No, what am I thinking? Just because Mina-san’s my little sister doesn’t mean I can touch Mina-san in a friendly way!
Me and Mina-san, we’re family… That’s what we’ve decided, so it’s no good if I fall in love with her.
“M-Mina-san… It’s time for you to let go… You’re just teasing me like before—”
“Yes, that’s right. Sorry, Yuuto-kun. Go have fun with Shirai-senpai.”
Mina-san walked away from me and with a bang, she went straight into her room.
If Mina-san’s words just now weren’t meant to tease me… Then Mina-san, she…
