Chapter 10 – Always Knock When Entering a Room
“I’m home.”
I came home from school, but the house was quiet and I could see that there was no one in the house because there were no shoes… Mina-san said at dinner last night that she would be home late tonight because she would go out with friends. Kaho-san was probably shopping.
I took off my shoes and went upstairs to put my bag in my room. After putting my bag down, I went back downstairs. I was going to the bathroom when I looked out of the window and saw it was raining.
“Hmm? It’s raining… Ah, the laundry!”
When I saw the laundry drying outside, I rushed to open the door to the bathroom, went in, took the basket right next to it, put on my slippers outside and went outside.
“It’s wet.”
I hurriedly put the dried clothes in the basket. Then, I noticed something. This is Mina-san’s stuff, isn’t it…? My hand stopped and I wondered what to do… I wonder if it’s okay for me to touch it. I’m reluctant to take it, but I can’t say that now, can I?
The longer I’m here, the wetter I get myself and the wetter the laundry.
Okay, let’s take the plunge here…
I closed my eyes, took the laundry and put it in the basket. Then, I put in the ones that were still drying, one after the other. There were some things in the basket that weren’t mine and my dad’s, but right now, the priority was to get them in.
I finished putting everything in the basket and rushed back into the house.
“Hah~ I’m tired in many ways.”
I’ll just take this to the bathroom. I don’t remember turning on the light on the ground floor when I came back, but somehow it was on.
Huh?
Did I turn it on when I was in a hurry earlier?
I got to the washroom and put the basket down once to open the door. Then, I noticed something. I didn’t remember turning on the light in the bathroom either, but there was a light leaking from underneath. And the door was closed. I thought maybe I had switched on the light when I came in earlier, so I put my hand on the doorknob and opened the door.
“Wha…”
“Eh…?”
I thought there was no one there, but I saw Mina-san in front of me and I stiffened. Mina-san was there… If it was just that, then it’d be fine, but… The way Mina-san was dressed in front of me was something I was not supposed to see.
I guess she was in a hurry to get home when it started to rain. Her cutter shirt was wet and soaked. And her underwear was transparent.
“W-Welcome back, Mina-san…”
I didn’t know what to do, so I said welcome back like we agreed on the last rule. Well, of course she wouldn’t say ‘I’m home’ when told in this situation. Mina-san was shaking and her face was bright red. Then, Mina-san silently came to me standing in front of the door and closed it silently.
“…Sorry, Mina-san.”
Across the door, I apologized to Mina-san, who was on the other side of the door. Then, I heard a small voice.
“—you see?”
“Eh…? Mina-san, what did you—”
When I tried to listen again, I heard a slightly louder voice than before.
“I’m asking if you saw…”
“Well, if it’s that, I…”
“If you tell me honestly, I’ll let you off for breaking the rules. Yuuto-kun, you should always knock when you enter a room… Don’t tell me you forgot to do that?”
I haven’t forgotten… In this case, there was no one inside the bathroom, and just a few minutes later, Mina-san was there. This probably sounds like an excuse.
“It was transparent, and erm…I ended up seeing your underwear.”
I answered honestly, but there was no reply from her for a while. Could this be some sort of enraged pattern? Then, I heard Mina-san’s voice.
“Good, you’re honest. I’ll pretend it was an accident and what happened earlier never happened. Yuuto-kun, you didn’t want to see it either, right? It just happened to catch your eye…right?”
“Yeah, of course.”
“Then, it’s okay.”
I felt hot and my shoulders relaxed. Now, what should I do with this basket? As I was thinking about waiting until Mina-san came out, I heard a rustling sound from the bathroom.
O-Oh, no!
I’m not supposed to be here!
I was about to leave the basket and leave when I heard Mina-san’s voice from the other side of the door.
“Y-Yuuto kun… Are you still there by any chance?”
Erm, this is the one where she gets angry when I say, “yeah, I’m here,” isn’t it?
I didn’t say anything and tried to slowly walk away, but my foot hit the basket and it made a rattling sound.
Ah, that’s the end of me…
