Chapter 9: I Won’t Be Yours
The light vanished from Towa-san’s eyes, like she was reenacting that mad scene from the movie.
In a low, cold voice, she declared.
“You’ll come, right? You wouldn’t say no, would you?”
The air grew heavy in an instant.
It wasn’t a joke or teasing. Her shadow seemed to stretch under the streetlights, engulfing me.
“…Yes.”
Before I knew it, I’d nodded, swallowed by an atmosphere that allowed no refusal.
“Good.”
Her smile returned, as if the dark aura had been an illusion.
“Let’s go, then. This way.”
And so—I was led to Towa-san’s apartment.
My heart wouldn’t stop pounding.
Was this an extension of our date, or—the start of something else?
—This is a luxury tower, isn’t it?
The penthouse, no less.
From the entrance to the elevator, my heartbeat didn’t relent as we ascended silently. When the doors opened, a different world unfolded.
“Welcome.”
“Th-Thanks for having me…”
(Going to a girl’s house… A first in my life!)
The moment I stepped inside, unease hit me. It was pristine, but unsettlingly so. Too lifeless, like stepping into an unoccupied model room.
“Sit there.”
“Oh, sure.”
Sinking into a plush sofa, I faced a massive, hundred-inch TV. In this theater-like living room, I felt out of place.
It was already midnight. She offered me tea and sat beside me. So close our shoulders nearly touched. No, they were touching.
“Wanna watch something?”
Her whispered voice was sweet, sultry. My body temperature spiked. This is bad—I’m totally misreading this.
The TV flicked on, displaying a streaming service. She whispered deliberately close to my ear.
“Let’s stay like this… till morning.”
(This is bad! My rationality’s crumbling! …I need a distracting movie…!)
My choice—
Justice League.
“…Seriously?”
Towa-san shot me a deadpan look.
“You’re gonna hide behind this for the whole night? That’s way too pathetic, even for you.”
My trembling hands had picked Zack Snyder’s Director’s Cut. Runtime: four hours, two minutes.
“No, it’s… it’s good, and it’s long…”
“Heh… but you can’t escape anymore, you know?”
Giggling, she threw her arms around me. Her limbs entwined, her breath grazing my ear.
“First time for this, right? …Leave it to me.”
Her voice felt like it was invading my brain, chipping away at my sanity.
“Th-This kind of thing… is for after we’re dating…”
She leaned closer. Our noses nearly touched. Her eyes glowed red, carrying a beastly glint.
—[We’re not lovers.]
A voice echoed directly in my mind.
My consciousness wavered, and my tongue slipped.
“Yeah… we’re lovers, aren’t we…”
Just as our lips were about to meet—
CRASH!
The window shattered spectacularly. A shadow burst in with a fierce shout, carried by a gust of wind.
“You filthy thief!!”
It was Mio Shirayuki. Her blue hair fluttered, a large pointed hat on her head, clutching a broom tightly.
“Damn it! Right at the good part… You stupid witch!”
Towa-san stood, grinding her teeth.
“I’m taking him back.”
Mio-san grabbed my shoulders firmly, yanking me from Towa-san’s arms.
“Hah! He’s mine! Get lost, witch!”
“No! He’s mine alone! He’ll never be yours!”
Light flared at Mio-san’s feet. In the next instant, we were airborne, straddling her broom.
(No way, no way… Actual Harry Potter!? Is this for real!?)
The penthouse shrank below us. Towa-san’s red eyes glinted at the window.
“Wait!!!”
Against the backdrop of the night city, a battle between a witch and a vampire-like woman ignited—over me.
