Nobody Wants to Be the MC - Chapter 28
Chapter 28: The coffee isn’t safe either!
【Lucifer PoV】
I sat at my favorite spot at the breakfast table, staring deeply into my cup of coffee.
Ah, coffee. My one true friend. My partner who never betrayed me. Even after a thousand years of sleep, coffee still understands my pain.
I took a sip, sighing in relief.
“Daddy!”
I almost spit out my precious coffee. My heart jumped.
Lilith appeared out of nowhere, smiling innocently. Her fiery red hair bounced happily as she came closer.
Ah, my lovely daughter. My sweet, adorable, terrifying daughter.
“Lilith, good morning… you’re awake early.”
She nodded excitedly.
“I wanted to surprise you with breakfast!”
Surprise…?
A sudden cold sweat ran down my back. I quickly looked around the room for excuses.
“Ah, Lilith, I already drank some coffee, so I’m not very hungry—”
She looked disappointed.
“Oh… but I spent all morning cooking for you…”
Her eyes grew bigger, filling with tears.
No, Lilith! Don’t do that face!
I panicked instantly.
“Ah, actually, coffee alone isn’t good for my stomach, so maybe just a small bite?”
She brightened immediately, smiling again.
“Really!? I’ll bring it right away!”
She disappeared quickly, leaving smoke behind.
I sighed deeply, rubbing my temples. Maybe this is how I’ll finally die. Poisoned by my own daughter.
Lilith returned quickly, placing a huge plate of something green and… bubbling?
“What… exactly is this, Lilith?”
She smiled proudly.
“It’s Magical Green Pancakes! They restore energy and mana instantly! But they have a very small side effect…”
Small side effect!?
I hesitated, staring at the green disaster on my plate.
“And… what’s the side effect?”
“Ah, it’s nothing serious! You might glow green a little for an hour or two.”
Glowing green!? How is this small!?
“Are you sure this is safe to eat…?”
She tilted her head innocently.
“Of course! I made it myself, Daddy!”
That’s exactly why it’s dangerous!
I swallowed nervously, picking up a small bite with my fork. Lilith watched me expectantly.
Here goes nothing…
I forced myself to eat it.
It tasted… strange. Like dirt mixed with sugar.
“Mmm… delicious… Lilith…”
She clapped her hands cheerfully.
“I’m so glad! I’ll bring more!”
“No, no, this is enough—”
Too late. She already vanished again.
Ah, someone please save me…
Suddenly, my subordinate Mammon appeared, looking concerned.
“Lucifer-sama, are you okay? You’re… glowing green.”
I sighed loudly, resigned.
“Yes Mammon, I know. Don’t say anything.”
Mammon nodded slowly, clearly worried, but wisely chose to remain silent.
Lilith returned happily, placing another large green pancake on my plate.
“Here you go, Daddy!”
I stared helplessly at the food, sweating.
“Ah, actually, Lilith, I just remembered… I’m allergic to green food.”
She tilted her head, puzzled.
“Really? I’ve never heard of that…”
“It’s… it’s a new allergy.”
Her eyes filled with sadness again.
“I see… I worked so hard though…”
“Ah, wait Lilith! Forget it, allergies are stupid anyway. I’ll eat.”
Her smile returned immediately.
“Yay!”
Ah, my poor stomach…
I quickly finished the pancake, glowing brighter green every second.
She stared proudly at me.
“You’re such a wonderful daddy!”
Yes, a wonderful, glowing green daddy…
I sighed deeply, taking a large sip of coffee, trying to regain my strength.
Lilith suddenly gasped.
“Oh! Wait, Daddy! I almost forgot to give you my special coffee mix!”
Special coffee!?
“No, Lilith, it’s okay! This coffee is already—”
“Don’t be shy! I’ll mix it for you myself!”
She quickly mixed a strange red powder into my cup. It instantly bubbled, becoming thick and bright red.
“This will make you super energized!”
I stared hopelessly at my beloved coffee, now ruined.
Is there nothing sacred anymore!?
Lilith looked so proud. How could I say no?
I forced myself to drink.
The coffee tasted spicy and painfully sweet at the same time. My mouth burned.
“Delicious… Lilith… thank you…”
She beamed happily.
“I’m glad you like it! I’ll make it for you every morning from now on!”
Every morning!?
I smiled weakly.
“Great… wonderful…”
Suddenly, Beelzebub walked closer nervously, looking urgently at me.
“Lucifer-sama, um, if you have a moment… we need to discuss something important.”
“Sure. Lilith, wait here, I’ll be back.”
Lilith smiled innocently.
“Okay Daddy! I’ll prepare lunch in the meantime!”
Lunch!? No… please…
I followed Beelzebub to a separate room where my subordinates were all waiting. Mammon, Leviathan, Asmodeus, Belphegor—they all looked at me with worried faces.
Mammon stepped forward.
“Lucifer-sama, we must talk about Lilith-sama.”
I sighed tiredly.
“Yes, I know. She’s causing trouble again?”
Asmodeus nodded.
“Lucifer-sama, the castle might not survive her… enthusiasm.”
Belphegor nervously continued.
“She blew up my bed… twice. My back hurts.”
Leviathan added quickly.
“And she froze me! Completely!”
I rubbed my temples again.
“I know, everyone, I’m sorry… I’ll talk to her again—”
Mammon suddenly interrupted.
“Lucifer-sama, forgive me, but… you’ve said that before.”
Everyone nodded sadly.
I groaned softly, realizing the truth.
Lilith was adorable, innocent, and dangerous. And I just couldn’t say no to her. My subordinates were clearly worried and tired.
I sighed deeply.
“Alright, I’ll do my best to control her a bit more… somehow.”
Mammon looked relieved.
“Thank you, Lucifer-sama.”
Asmodeus spoke quietly.
“Maybe… limit her kitchen access?”
I shivered at the thought.
“If I try that, she’ll cry.”
All of my subordinates instantly lowered their heads in understanding.
Yes. Lilith’s sad face was a weapon no one could resist. Even a Demon King.
I sighed again.
“I’ll think of something.”
Suddenly, there was a quiet knock at the door. Another subordinate appeared with a very serious expression.
“Lucifer-sama, forgive me for interrupting… but the council of subordinates requests an immediate private meeting with you. It’s urgent.”
The room suddenly became very quiet. Everyone exchanged tense glances.
A private meeting? Without Lilith?
I felt a chill run down my spine.
Whatever this meeting was about, it couldn’t be good.
I slowly nodded.
“Understood. Lead the way.”
My heart pounded nervously as I followed him out of the room.
Something tells me my day is about to get much worse…
