Nobody Wants to Be the MC - Chapter 27
Chapter 27: Let your poor daddy sleep, Lilith!
【Lucifer PoV】
After the events of today, I finally thought I could rest.
I was wrong. Again.
I laid down on my comfy bed, pulling the covers over myself, closing my eyes slowly. After a thousand-year sleep, even a Demon King deserves a little nap, right?
Ah, sweet peace…
I was almost asleep when—
Knock knock knock.
I opened one eye slowly, annoyed.
“Lucifer-sama… are you awake?”
I groaned softly.
“No. Go away.”
The door slowly opened anyway, and my subordinate Asmodeus peeked inside.
“Lucifer-sama, please help us.”
“What happened now?”
“It’s Lilith-sama… she’s doing experiments again… It’s two in the morning, and explosions are echoing everywhere…”
I sighed, tired.
“Can’t someone else handle this?”
Asmodeus looked away nervously.
“Lucifer-sama… she already blew up three bedrooms… including mine.”
Three bedrooms already? How fast does that girl work?
I sat up, groaning again.
“Fine, fine. I’ll talk to her. Just wait.”
I stood up and walked slowly to Lilith’s laboratory, dragging my sleepy feet through the dark corridors. My head felt heavy and my eyes barely opened. I really needed sleep.
As soon as I approached her lab, I heard cheerful humming coming from inside, along with a loud—
BOOM!
Smoke flooded the corridor, making me cough.
I opened the door slowly.
“Lilith…”
“Ah, Daddy! Did I wake you up?”
She looked at me innocently, her bright eyes full of concern. Her hair was messy, and her face covered with black smoke, yet she smiled sweetly.
I felt my heart weaken instantly.
“Well… yes, actually…”
“Oh! I’m sorry, Daddy! But look—I created fireworks!”
She lifted a small vial and shook it gently. It immediately exploded in sparkling colors.
How is this safe indoors!?
“Very impressive, Lilith… but maybe you should do that outside…”
Her face became sad instantly, her eyes watering a little.
“Oh… I see… I’m bothering you… I’m sorry, Daddy…”
Ah! Why does she look so hurt!?
“N-no! You don’t bother me at all, Lilith! Keep… Keep up the good work! Your daddy is proud of you!”
Her face immediately brightened up again.
“Really!? I’ll do my best!”
I slowly backed away, closing the door.
Ah, why am I so weak!?
I walked back slowly, exhausted, and returned to my room, collapsing back on my bed.
Finally, peace—
Knock knock knock.
Again!?
I angrily opened the door.
“What now!?”
Belial looked at me nervously.
“Lucifer-sama, Lilith-sama released some glowing butterflies… They’re eating all the curtains and furniture.”
Butterflies? Eating furniture? How?
I sighed again and went back to Lilith.
Inside the lab, bright blue butterflies flew everywhere, cheerfully chewing on tables and curtains.
“Lilith…?”
“Ah! Daddy! Aren’t they cute!? My magic butterflies!”
She spun happily around the butterflies, completely unaware of their destruction.
“They… um… they’re eating everything, Lilith…”
“Really!? Oops… maybe I used too much appetite magic…”
She looked down sadly.
“I’m sorry, Daddy… am I causing you trouble again?”
I shook my head instantly, panicking at her sad face.
“No, Lilith! No trouble at all! Butterflies are… adorable! Just try to keep them in one place, okay?”
She smiled innocently.
“Okay! I’ll try harder!”
I walked away slowly again, feeling my willpower drain even more.
Back to bed again, Lucifer…
Just as my eyes closed—
Knock knock knock.
Ahhh! What is it this time!?
“Lucifer-sama, Lilith-sama accidentally froze Leviathan solid…”
I jumped up and ran quickly back to Lilith’s lab. Leviathan stood in the middle of the room, covered completely in solid ice, his eyes wide in panic.
Lilith scratched her head, confused.
“Oh Daddy… I think I miscalculated my ice spell…”
You think!?
I quickly melted Leviathan out of the ice and teleported him away safely.
Lilith looked at me, worried.
“Is Leviathan okay?”
I sighed.
“He’s… fine, Lilith… just be careful next time…”
She nodded eagerly.
“I promise, Daddy!”
This repeated again… and again… and again.
Every time I laid down, another subordinate knocked, begging me to stop Lilith.
She accidentally electrocuted Mammon, transformed Belphegor into a talking frog, and turned poor Beelzebub invisible. All in a single night.
And every single time, she looked at me with big innocent eyes, apologizing sweetly and promising she’d do better.
How am I supposed to scold her!?
Finally, after the ninth time, I collapsed face-first onto my bed, exhausted.
Knock knock—
“No more knocking! Please, just let me sleep!”
I grabbed my pillow, deciding it was impossible to rest in my own castle.
Then I remembered the forest outside.
Yes… maybe I can finally sleep in peace out there…
I grabbed a blanket and quietly sneaked out of the castle. I walked into the peaceful forest, far from the explosions, spells, and magic disasters caused by my lovely daughter.
Laying down under a big tree, I wrapped myself in my blanket.
Finally…
No explosions.
No screaming subordinates.
No knocking at my door.
Just peace, quiet, and stars twinkling above.
Ah, peace at last…
I closed my eyes slowly, breathing softly, finally ready to sleep.
Until I heard…
“Daddy!? Are you sleeping outside!?”
Lilith’s voice echoed loudly through the night.
Why is she here!?
I opened my eyes, defeated.
Lilith stood above me, her face worried.
“Did I make your room explode too!?”
“No, Lilith… you didn’t…”
“Then why are you here?”
She looked like she would cry.
Ah, my poor heart!
“I’m just… enjoying nature… fresh air… you know.”
Her face lit up again, cheerful as always.
“Oh! That sounds fun! Can I join you?”
She quickly lay beside me, staring happily at the stars above.
“Ah, Daddy, isn’t this peaceful? Maybe tomorrow we can build a nature lab out here too!”
No, Lilith… please, no more labs…
But she smiled sweetly, looking so happy.
“Sure… Lilith… tomorrow…”
She closed her eyes, humming quietly.
I sighed deeply.
Sleep was clearly impossible.
But somehow, seeing her peaceful face, my heart softened.
My daughter is trouble. Innocent, adorable, dangerous trouble.
And yet…
I can’t scold her at all.
I smiled slightly, pulling the blanket over her too.
Maybe…
Maybe sleep is overrated anyway.
