Nobody Wants to Be the MC - Chapter 14
Chapter 14: Convergence of Fates
【Siegfried PoV】
I’m hidden behind a low stone wall near Eksu’s modest house, grinning like a madman.
I left the orchid perfume at his doorstep—yes, that very fancy, expensive bottle that happens to be Elizabeth’s absolute favorite.
I told Eksu it would make her hate him, but that was a fib, a delicious little lie.
In truth, the scent is meant to stir up something unexpected in her—a secret attraction, if you will.
Imagine the absurdity: the obsessive yandere falling head over heels for our reluctant hero.
Now that would free him from her constant barrage of punches and surprise attacks, and leave me to finally enjoy some peace.
I can’t help but chuckle softly as I watch Eksu approach the house from a distance.
There he is, steady as ever with his 【Absolute Defense】, probably still clueless about the true nature of this perfume.
I mutter under my breath.
“Here comes the hero in the making… or so I hope.”
I’m not sad—far from it. I’m happy. I want to live a quiet life without dodging flying fists every day, and I see Eksu as the perfect replacement for the protagonist’s role.
While I remain behind the scenes, I get to witness this absurd love story unfold.
Ah, the irony—my little gift, intended to make a monster fall in love, not to incite hatred.
Time to let fate play its part.
【Eksu PoV】
Earlier this morning, I found a small, elegantly wrapped box on my doorstep.
Inside was an orchid perfume—a scent I assumed was meant to repel Elizabeth, as if to drive her away.
Siegfried had been so cryptic about it, spouting all sorts of wild theories about its effects.
I never imagined it would lead to this.
Now, in the soft light of the early evening, I make my way to the quiet courtyard behind my house.
The courtyard is modest—stone walls, a small, trickling fountain, and a few scattered benches.
I arrive a few minutes early, unsure what to expect, and find Elizabeth already waiting there.
Her expression is one of awkward determination, as if she’s been summoned by an order she doesn’t entirely understand.
“Hello.”
I offer a polite smile, trying to hide my confusion.
We sit down on a worn bench near the fountain.
The silence between us feels as heavy as a drawn-out sword duel—only there’s no sword, just the awkward tension of two people who never intended to meet like this.
I recall the strange note from Siegfried about a “meeting,” but I’m still not entirely sure what the plan is.
I keep glancing at the box of perfume left by my door, wondering how it fits into this all.
I thought it was meant to keep Elizabeth at bay, but now… I can’t shake a nagging feeling that something is shifting.
Is it possible that this meeting is meant to change things, to have Elizabeth see me in a different light?
The thought is as bewildering as it is amusing.
Elizabeth shifts in her seat, her eyes darting around the courtyard as if she’s not entirely sure why she’s here.
Her words come out haltingly.
“Eksu… I—uh…”
She trails off, looking down at her hands.
I try to fill the silence with small talk about the weather and the strange happenings in town, but every time she speaks, her voice wavers.
It’s both endearing and frustrating—like she’s trapped in her own unpredictable world.
As the conversation continues, I notice that my heart beats a little faster when she accidentally meets my gaze.
I force a laugh at one of my own jokes, and for a brief moment, I see her eyes soften.
It’s subtle—a slight blush creeping across her cheeks, a pause in her restless demeanor.
Neither of us knows it’s supposed to be a romantic meeting, but something in the air feels charged, like the beginning of a storm we can’t yet predict.
I try to focus on her, on the awkward charm of her presence.
She seems as confused as I am, yet there’s a spark—something in her wild eyes that hints at a deeper emotion.
I wonder if, by some twist of fate, this strange arrangement could lead to a future where her obsessive tendencies transform into something tender.
It’s a wild thought, but in our absurd world, wild is as good as any plan.
【Elizabeth PoV】
I stand in the courtyard, not quite sure why I agreed to come here today.
Eksu’s house is simple, almost too simple for someone like me.
I’m used to chaos, to dramatic encounters, but this… this is different.
I feel out of place, as if I’ve been dropped into a scene from a play I never auditioned for.
Eksu sits on a bench, looking earnest and a little lost, his eyes wandering between me and the small box that must be the source of all this fuss.
I try to speak, but the words tangle on my tongue.
I fidget with my hands, the familiar restlessness inside me mixing with something I can’t quite name—a subtle warmth I feel deep down, though I’d never admit it outright.
I watch Eksu laugh softly at something he says, and I feel a strange flutter in my chest.
I catch my reflection in a window; my cheeks are tinged with pink, and I quickly look away, embarrassed.
What is happening to me?
I’m used to being the one in control, the one who strikes first, but here… I’m just… standing there, uncertain, as if a part of me is awakening to something unexpected.
I don’t fully understand it, but as I sit in that quiet courtyard with Eksu, I begin to notice details—his gentle smile, the way his eyes light up when he laughs, the calmness in his voice.
I feel a tug at my heart that I can’t quite explain.
Maybe it’s the magic of this arranged meeting, or perhaps it’s something inside me stirring for the first time.
I try to focus, to ignore it, but I can’t shake the feeling that this encounter is changing something.
For a fleeting moment, I catch myself smiling.
A genuine smile that surprises even me.
Then I look away, my face flushing as I struggle with this new, confusing sensation.
I don’t know what it means, but I sense that maybe—just maybe—there’s more to this meeting than I ever expected.
