Chapter 25
“This, what are you going to do about this!”
A man’s angry shout echoed again.
Upon searching… the voice seemed to be coming from the direction of the drink bar.
When I looked, the situation became clear.
“I’m s-sorry…!”
“Mamaa…”
Apparently, a drink held by a child had accidentally spilled onto the man’s pants.
The man appeared to be middle-aged.
The opposing parties were a mother and daughter, both women.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry…”
The woman who seemed to be the mother kept bowing her head.
It was a minor mishap.
One would think the issue would be resolved quickly, but the man remained displeased.
“Tch, you dare spill juice on me… Do you realize the gravity of what you’ve done?”
“No, it wasn’t intentional…”
“I’m sorry. I tripped, and that’s why…”
It seemed that the child had tripped, unfortunately causing the juice to spill on the man’s pants.
That attitude of his, though…
The other party was just a little girl, probably in early elementary school.
What kind of adult gets that worked up?
“Can’t even educate your kid, huh?”
“I’m sorry, so sorry.”
“Hmph. Well, you women will always have to please us men to survive anyway. In the end, all you need is a body, isn’t it?”
“…What’s up with that guy?”
Such a way of speaking was uncalled for.
Clearly, he was looking down on women.
Men like him exist in every era, in every world.
In this world of chastity reversal, while there are many men who are naturally reserved around women, not all are like that.
There are also those who flaunt their maleness as if it’s some special privilege.
“Seriously, you’re making a lot of noise just with words. Shouldn’t an apology be more substantial? How about kneeling, huh? Look, you’ve dirtied my clothes. You don’t need clothes, do you?”
“That bastard…”
My own words were getting harsher.
It wasn’t someone else’s problem, and I couldn’t just stand by and watch.
Even if it’s just a single comment, I felt the urge to speak out.
But before I could, someone else had already taken action.
“Excuse me, may I have a word?”
“Haa?”
“Eh, Kuno?!”
Before I knew it, Kuno was standing in front of the man.
“What do you want? You this woman’s kid?”
“No, I’m a complete stranger.”
“Then get lost! Don’t interfere when a man is talking!”
His tone was as rough as ever.
Upon closer inspection, the man’s cheeks were slightly flushed.
Was he drunk?
That would explain his aggressive tone, incoherent speech, and unsteady footing.
“Hic… Seems like you need some education, too, huh?”
“No, perhaps you’re the one in need of education? Regardless of how precious a male you might be, it’s common sense not to insult others.”
“Oh? So what you’re saying is, it’s okay if it’s not just words but something more painful?”
“Kuno!”
This guy was finally resorting to violence!
He raised his fist, prompting me to shout out involuntarily.
In a moment, I too was about to…
“…So you’re that type as well, huh? Hmph!”
—But it turned out I didn’t have to worry.
Kuno dodged the incoming fist and used the man’s momentum to grab his arm.
“Aghghghghgh!!!”
With a strong twist from Kuno, the man fell to his knees, his face contorted in pain.
“Wow!”
I couldn’t help but clap softly.
Truly remarkable for a male bodyguard. Apparently, male bodyguards are trained in self defense.
“Learn from this experience and reflect on your actions. And please forgive them; it wasn’t intentional on their part.”
“I-I’m sorry…”
“We’re sorry.”
The mother and child bowed deeply once again.
“This skilled move… Tch… Damn it!”
Perhaps the man sobered up or maybe he became aware of the surrounding stares.
Either way, he clicked his tongue and quickly left the scene.
“Kuno!”
“Ah… Nii-san.”
I quickly rushed over to Kuno.
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t do anything…!”
“It’s okay. It’s actually better that you didn’t get involved. It would be troublesome if you got hurt.”
“But still…”
“Um, thank you so much!”
The mother and child approached Kuno.
I hadn’t done anything, so I subtly moved away and watched from a distance.
“It must have been scary for you. You did well, apologizing without shedding tears. But please be careful when carrying drinks next time.”
“Y-Yes…”
Kuno bent down to meet the child’s gaze and patted her head.
The girl’s expression quickly turned into a smile.
Kuno is… truly amazing.
“Thank you, Onii-chan!”
“Yes…”
Kuno returned the smile, but that small smile was somehow… a bit somber.
◇◇
After leaving the store, Kuno and I aimlessly wandered around the shopping mall.
“Nii-san, I’m sorry about earlier.”
“Hm? What for?”
“Well… for suddenly jumping in like that.”
“Ah, that? But your actions were correct.”
He must be talking about confronting that rude man.
The people around us were all women, including the store employees.
Given that the other party was a man, people probably hesitated to approach.
“I just couldn’t stand his attitude and words…”
“Yeah, it was awful.”
No matter how drunk, it’s the lowest behavior for anyone, let alone a man, to look down on women and hurl abusive language.
“Seeing something like that leaves a bad taste in my mouth…”
“Yeah.”
Recalling what had happened earlier somehow dampened the mood.
“Alright! Let’s forget all about it and have some fun!”
“…Sounds good.”
◇◇
Time flew as we went to the game center, ate some crepes for snacks, and browsed various stores.
Before we knew it, it was time to head home.
“Thanks for hanging out today, Kuno.”
“Not at all. I had fun too.”
I thought Kuno might still be down because of what happened earlier, but as time passed, he returned to his usual self.
“Nii-san, please be extra careful and have fun at the field trip.”
“Yeah, I got it. Rui is there, so it should be fine.”
Plus, there’s assistant guard Kanoya and two other classmates who talk to me. It looks like it’s going to be a fun field trip.
Anyway, having a male bodyguard around does give one peace of mind.
Yes, a male bodyguard.
“…”
I glanced at Kuno beside me.
It appears that the term ‘male bodyguard’ refers to female bodyguards tasked with protecting males, as Rui had informed me.
Makes sense when you think about it; it would be odd if the males they were protecting were the bodyguards themselves.
And Kuno… is a male bodyguard in middle school.
Which means there’s a possibility that Kuno is a girl.
But then again, I haven’t heard that all male bodyguards are females. In middle school, there could be males as bodyguards too.
The reason I’m thinking this way is because if Kuno were a girl, I figured he would tell me.
After all, even if we weren’t born from the same parents, we are family.
There’s no need to hide one’s gender from family—
“Nii-san.”
“Hm?”
“Don’t cry just because I won’t be there during the field trip, okay?”
“O-oh, I won’t cry! And you better not cry because I’m not there, Kuno! But if you get lonely, feel free to call me!”
“I’ll be fine.”
Oops, got shot down there. Onii-chan is sad.
“Besides, we’ll see each other again.”
True, once the field trip is over, we’ll return home.
We are family, after all, so we’ll be together when we’re at home.
