After school, I stood up from my seat.

“Rui, I’m going to submit the log for the day.”

“Alright, be careful. If you’re concerned, I can come with you.”

Just to submit a log, she offered such a response.

“No, it’s fine. I’ll be back soon.”

“If Ikuto says so, then I’ll wait here in the classroom. Come back quickly.”

You might wonder, why didn’t the male bodyguard Rui come with me?

Most boys would try to finish the task quickly and walk away briskly, but not me. I didn’t mind if someone struck up a conversation, so I proceeded at a relaxed pace.

As I walked past the shoe lockers, the staff room came into view..

I should just knock and enter to submit the log… 

But instead, I paused. My gaze turned toward two people talking in front of the staff room.

“So, that’s what happened~”

“That sounds like a unique experience.”

Two students were having an animated conversation. I recognized them.

They were the male bodyguards of Tanaka and Takahashi.

“Everyone, please step back!”

“If you come any closer, we, the male bodyguards, won’t show mercy, alright?”

They seemed much more laid-back now than their usual stern demeanor. They acted like normal female students. Was this their true nature?

Their names were, if I remember correctly…

“Ah! It’s Ichise-kun!”

“Huh?”

Did I just call out by my name? Was today the day people actually talked to me?

While I waited for their next words, feeling a bit nervous…

“Mio-san, you’ll surprise him if you call out so suddenly.”

“It’s fine~. It’s Ichise-kun, after all.”

“Even if Ichise-san is okay with it, there’s a thing called ‘protocol’—”

“Ah, yes, yes, I get it~. Ren-chan, you’re as diligent and cute as ever.”

“Are you trying to gloss things over by calling me cute?”

A heartwarming exchange unfolded before my eyes. 

This could be what’s commonly referred to as “yuri,” maybe.

“Fine… Being called cute is pleasing, so I’ll graciously accept.”

“Hehe, Ren-chan is so cute~.”

I could watch this exchange forever, but eventually…

“Um… Akarizaki-kun and Kamijo-kun? You called me?”

Only Akarizaki-kun, with her blonde, fluffy short hair, had called my name.

Akarizaki-kun had an undeniably cheerful and energetic vibe, often stretching out the ends of her sentences a bit. 

Many of us referred to the male bodyguards using the respectful “kun” suffix, considering their masculine appearance and dignified conduct while on duty. 

To be honest, most of them were way cooler than the rest of us guys.

“Eh! You remember my name?”

“And mine too?”

“Yeah, well, we’re classmates, aren’t we?”

The two exchanged surprised glances, but isn’t remembering classmates’ names pretty standard? 

In my case, I had learned their names quickly, wishing I could be more popular.

“I’m super happy~”

“It’s nice to be remembered by name.”

“Isn’t that a bit exaggerated?”

I couldn’t help but ask since they both looked so pleased.

“No, no, it’s not an exaggeration at all! Even though we, the male bodyguards, are the closest to the boys, we’re usually called by ‘Hey’ or ‘You.’ So, being called by our name is really rare.”

“Indeed, I’ve heard there are boys here in their third year who don’t even remember the names of girls or male bodyguards…”

Are there really guys who don’t remember names?

In a school filled with beautiful girls, no less.

If I could make someone happy just by calling their name, I’d repeat it over and over.

I usually don’t get to speak with male bodyguards other than Rui; they always seem too busy with their duties to chat.

“Ah, yeah.”

“Actually, there’s a sudden staff meeting going on right now. So, you can’t enter the staff room. I thought I’d let you know, so I called out.”

If they hadn’t told me, I would’ve walked right in.

It would’ve been pretty embarrassing to enter during a staff meeting. 

So that’s why the two of them were waiting outside the staff room.

“I apologize for approaching you so suddenly, Ichise-san. You must have been surprised.”

Said the one with the navy-blue wolf cut, Kamijo-kun. 

She had a calm demeanor and seemed very reliable. 

Since I was a guy, it seemed like she was concerned for me.

“No, not at all. I’m actually happy you spoke to me.”

“You’re so kind to us.”

“Am I?”

Both Akarizaki-kun and Kamijo-kun looked at me as if they were impressed, but talking with the two of them was just genuinely enjoyable.

“But for some reason, girls don’t really talk to me. I wonder if there’s something wrong with me? Haha…”

I scratched my cheek as I said that, my words sounding a bit like a monologue.

The two exchanged glances and gave a wry smile. 

Did they know something?

“Well, the reason you’re in that situation, Ichise-kun, is probably due to various factors.”

“…Yeah, there are several reasons.”

“Reasons? Could you tell me, please?” 

If I know what’s wrong, I can fix it and maybe girls will start talking to me!

“Woah, you’re… pretty close…”

“It’s the first time a man has come this close to us…”

“Huh?”

I suddenly noticed that both their cheeks had turned slightly red.

“Oh, sorry…!”

I stepped back. It looked like I’d gotten a bit too close.

Even though they’re male bodyguards, they’re also girls. 

It seems they get embarrassed by unexpected actions.

“So, could you tell me if it’s alright?”

Upon asking again, the two looked at each other and began whispering in low voices.

“What should we do? Should we tell him?”

I couldn’t tell if they were complimenting me or not, but I did realize that I needed to be careful going forward.

“Ichise-kun, not to overstep, but maybe you should reserve your kindness for girls you’re genuinely interested in.”

“Even just being treated kindly by a man can lead to misunderstandings.”

Both of them looked unusually serious.

It seemed like in this world, it was rare for men to be considerate and kind, hence their caution.

“I don’t know to what extent other girls take advantage, but I’m happy to be approached and spoken to. Even now, I’m happy to be talking to Akarizaki-kun and Kamijo-kun!”
