“Whew, it got quite wet, huh?”

I brushed the hair that clung to my forehead and cheeks.

The rain had eventually poured so hard that I could barely see in front of me, but I managed to get home. It seemed like Mom and Kuno hadn’t come back yet.

My school uniform, shoes, bag, and even my hair were drenched. My uniform blazer had absorbed water, making it heavy. The shirt underneath clung to my skin, feeling uncomfortable.

“School’s tomorrow, too… I wonder if Rui’s okay.”

We ran at a pretty fast pace, but Rui, being good at physical activities, had no trouble keeping up.

“Rui?”

Rui was also soaked, but he was staring at something as if lost in thought.

He looked like a work of art just by standing there.

Even drenched in rain, he still looked handsome. The added shine somehow made him more dazzling. Truly a real-life version of a dashing man.

But wait, now’s not the time to be carefree and think about such things!

“Stay here for a moment; I’ll go grab some towels!”

He’d probably want to dry his wet body quickly.

“Feel free to take a shower first. You can leave your wet clothes in the dryer. They should be dry by the time the rain stops.”

We had come to the changing room after lightly wiping ourselves down with bath towels.

“Rui?”

Ever since we got inside the house, Rui had been strangely quiet. His gaze was unfocused, and he seemed a bit restless.

“Are you nervous because it’s someone else’s home, Rui?”

“Haha. I see. So you’re nervous. Come to think of it, this is the first time you’ve been in my house, even though I’ve invited you several times before.”

Rui had been living alone and had offered to join me for dinner whenever he drove me home, but he had turned me down every time. Probably, he was being considerate of Mom and Kuno.

“Right now, it’s just me at home. Just think of it as being in a different place and feel free to relax.”

“Your being alone at home is the real problem here.”

“Hm? Did you say something?”

I hadn’t heard him because he had muttered so softly.

“N-no, it’s nothing. I appreciate the offer for a shower, but you should go first, Ikuto.”

“You don’t have to be considerate, you know?”

“I have to be. You’re a valuable guy. If you catch a cold, everyone would worry.”

Rui looked at me with intense eyes.

He must have been genuinely concerned about the possibility of me catching a cold.

While I appreciated his sentiment…

“Look, it’s my house. I have to prepare a change of clothes and do some other things, so it would be more efficient if you go ahead.”

Still, Rui wouldn’t back down. 

So, I gave it one last push.

“Besides, if you catch a cold, I’d be left alone at school. I don’t want that, you know? So, go warm up yourself quickly.”

“… Fine.”

After I said that, Rui reluctantly nodded.

“I can also prepare a bath if you like.”

“A shower is fine. I can’t keep you waiting.”

“You don’t have to worry about me, but if a shower is what you prefer, that’s fine.”

“Then, I’ll go ahead with the shower.”

“Alright, take your time.”

As Rui began to slowly unbutton his blazer, I left the changing room.
