Chapter 161 To meet up with Nyau
“I think Lyune and I should be the ones to explore this dungeon and search for treasure chests.”
After being teleported, we were discussing our next course of action.
“Yeah, I agree.”
Waiting here wouldn’t give us a high chance of reuniting with Nyau. Instead, searching for treasure chests seemed more likely to lead us to her.
With our plan decided, it was time to head out.
We had been separated from Nyau, but I wasn’t too worried. After all, she’s a sage—clearing this dungeon on her own should be easy for her.
If anything, we should be more concerned about whether we can make it through this dungeon safely.
“Kiska-chi, there’s a monster! Over there!”
As we followed the path through the dungeon, Lyune suddenly shouted in alarm.
Sure enough, there was a monster where she was pointing.
Oh, it’s just a slime—a gelatinous creature.
Among the monsters found in dungeons, gelatinous slimes are on the weaker side. Even I can defeat them without much trouble.
“Wait here for a bit.”
I drew the Blazing Sword from its sheath at my waist.
Then, I rushed toward the gelatinous slime, careful not to touch its toxic mucus as I swung my sword.
I stabbed the small red core within the slime. In an instant, the creature stopped moving.
“Kiska-chi, that was amazing!”
Lyune cheered excitedly, bouncing up and down.
“This was nothing special.”
Believe it or not, I’ve fought plenty of monsters in dungeons. There’s no way I’d struggle against something as weak as a gelatinous slime.
We continued making our way through the dungeon, defeating monsters as we went. That said, none of them were particularly strong, so taking them down wasn’t much of a challenge.
“Monsters have been showing up a lot more all of a sudden. I wonder what Elsie is thinking.”
“No idea. Honestly, I can never figure out what’s going on in that person’s head.”
As we chatted, another monster appeared.
A wolf kobold, huh? Not a particularly strong one—I could handle it myself, but…
“Hey, Lyune. I’ve been the only one fighting this whole time. How about we switch for a bit?”
Now that I thought about it, I’d never actually seen Lyune use magic. Stronger enemies could show up at any moment, so it’d be good to know what she’s capable of.
She is Nyau’s apprentice, so she should be decent, at the very least.
“Huh?”
Lyune’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Kiska-cchi, you seem like you’ve got this under control, so isn’t it fine if I don’t fight?”
“I just want to see how well you can handle yourself. I won’t always be able to take down every enemy on my own.”
“Hmm…”
Lyune averted her gaze, looking a little troubled.
“Um, actually… My master told me I’m not allowed to use magic when she’s not around.”
“What do you mean?”
Her unexpected response made me furrow my brows.
“Well, like I mentioned earlier, I couldn’t control my magic at all back in school. After meeting my master, I got a little better, but at the same time, it also made my magic more unstable…”
“Unstable?”
“Yeah. That’s why my master told me never to use magic unless she’s there to supervise.”
Lyune looked at me apologetically.
“So that’s how it is…”
“Sorry, Kiska-cchi. I didn’t tell you until now.”
“No, there’s nothing for you to apologize for. You have your reasons—it can’t be helped.”
I scratched my head as I spoke. Forcing her to use magic when she couldn’t control it would only put her in more danger.
“For now, I should be able to handle things on my own.”
“Yeah, I’ll be counting on you, Kiska-cchi.”
Lyune’s innocent smile made me sigh internally. Seriously, being relied on this openly was both flattering and a bit nerve-wracking.
“Well, no choice then. I’ll take the lead, so make sure you stay close.”
Even as I said that, I steeled myself to protect her. We had no idea what awaited us deeper in the dungeon—letting our guard down wasn’t an option.
We continued fighting monsters as we advanced until we reached a dead end.
“Wow, what a cute door!”
Lyune’s excited voice drew my attention to it as well.
The door was made of pure white marble, adorned with intricate rose carvings. Gold leaf decorations surrounded the design, giving it an elegant touch.
Above the door, the words “Chamber of Truth” were etched in graceful, flowing script.
“For such a cute door, it feels kinda eerie, doesn’t it?”
“Yeah. As always, I have no idea what Elsie is thinking.”
First, she had us wear maid outfits. Then, she sent us on a dungeon. Her actions never made any sense.
And now, this door—something that looked like it belonged in a princess’s dreamland. Was there some hidden meaning behind it? Or was it just another meaningless whim?
“Hmm… Do you think Elsie likes cute things?”
“No clue. But one thing’s for sure—there’s definitely a trap waiting for us beyond this door.”
“But we don’t really have any other way forward, do we?”
“Yeah. In the end, we have no choice but to open it.”
Lyune and I exchanged glances.
Even knowing it was a trap, we had to move forward.
With that understanding, we pushed the door open together.
