Chapter 10: Uchida Natsumi
I looked inside the equipment storage room, and I was disappointed.
There were a total of seven male and female students, and Yume-nee wasn’t among them.
Me, holding the machete, and Kenzaki-san, holding the sword. A few of the students showed a look of surprise at our appearance, but they probably understood that this was an emergency. No one said anything to us.
“D-Did you really defeat the zombies?!”
“Yes, there are no more zombies in the gymnasium.”
The students who cautiously looked inside the gymnasium realized that my words were true, and they ran away as fast as they could.
One female student remained, and she called out to me.
“Hey, you’re Ritsu, right?”
“Yes, that’s right. Are you a friend of Yume-nee?”
It was a female student whose face I recognized. I didn’t know her name, but I had seen her with Yume-nee a few times.
“Yeah. I’m Uchida Natsumi. You see, Yume and I were together in the gymnasium, and Yume… Yume protected me…”
“Wait a minute. You abandoned Yume-nee and ran away to the equipment storage room?”
“Huh… No, no, it’s not like that, I tried to stop them, but the others closed the door…”
Uchida-senpai stepped back in fear. Kenzaki-san tapped me on the head.
“Calm down. You have a very scary face.”
“…… I’m sorry. Uchida-senpai, could you continue?”
Uchida-senpai still showed an attitude of fear towards me, but she continued to talk.
“U, um… So, Yume said, before the equipment storage room door closed, that she would be in the library.”
Kenzaki-san and I looked at each other. Finally, we had found Yume-nee’s location.
“The first floor of the school building, right next to the gymnasium building. Why the library?”
“I talked to Yume-nee about it before. There’s one place where the window lock is broken. If you shake it a little, it opens easily. Also, if it was during morning classes, the library wouldn’t be used, so there shouldn’t be any zombies.”
“I see. It’s a safe place that can be accessed from the outside, right away, after escaping from the gymnasium building.”
Unexpectedly, we had obtained the necessary information from an unexpected source. Let’s go to the library right away.
“Well, Kenzaki-san, I have to go somewhere, so I’ll say goodbye to you here.”
“What are you talking about… I’ll go with you since I’ve come this far.”
Kenzaki-san said it in a disappointed tone.
She had come here to save her younger brother, a disciple of the Kenzaki school, so her purpose had already been achieved. It would be great to have her fight alongside us, but there was no reason for her to stay with us.
“Um, I’m sorry if you were expecting it, but I have no money at all.”
“I’m not going with you expecting a reward.”
“I’ll give you that sword. I have the machete.”
“I’m not helping you because I’m afraid to lose the sword. Well, I’ll take the sword, though.”
“Then why?”
Kenzaki-san hesitated for a moment, and then she said it shyly.
“We’re already battle buddies, aren’t we? Let me help you with this much.”
It was a very disappointing reason, and I couldn’t really empathize with it.
If I were in her position, I would have parted ways with myself here and now without even bothering to give help.
But I didn’t have time to argue, and most importantly, Kenzaki-san was a great asset. I simply said,
“Thank you. I’m glad I met you.”
Kenzaki-san blushed and mumbled something in reply. It was probably “You’re welcome.”
Uchida-senpai asked me with a face that looked like she was about to cry.
“Uh, um, are you going to save Yume…?”
“Yes, of course.”
“I-I’m sorry… I’m s-scared. I can’t, I can’t go…”
Rest assured, I didn’t expect you to come with me from the beginning.
I was about to answer like that, but I took a breath. It seemed that I was still holding a grudge against Uchida-senpai for abandoning Yume-nee and running away to the equipment storage room. But I didn’t have to be too harsh.
“It’s okay. We’ll rescue Yume-nee by ourselves, so please don’t worry. Uchida-senpai, you should run away as soon as possible. There are no zombies here now.”
“Y-Yeah…. S-Sorry… I-I’m sorry…”
Uchida-senpai ran away, holding her smartphone carefully, even though she was crying.
I hope she escapes safely. After all, she’s a friend of Yume-nee.
Kenzaki-san knelt down and bowed her hands to the body of her younger brother.
“I’m sorry. I can’t take you with me. Considering the current world we’re in, we might meet again soon, so please forgive me then.”
After finishing her prayer, Kenzaki-san stood up and turned to me. It seemed that she was ready.
“Well, let’s go, Kenzaki-san.”
“Yes. If you become a zombie, I’ll perform euthanasia on you, so don’t worry.”
“In that case, hold me to your chest like you did with that person over there.”
“As I thought, you like D-cups, don’t you…”
We exchanged light-hearted insults to hide our fear, and we headed to the last battle at the academy.

Yay! There really aren’t any zombies at all!
Uchida Natsumi was happy to see the outside scenery as she left the gymnasium building.
The zombies that had been there were either outside the school or inside the building, and they were scattered around. They didn’t seem to notice Natsumi, as they were distracted by other sounds.
I want to see my dad and mom soon…
Natsumi had called them many times while she was in the gymnasium building and the equipment storage room, but she couldn’t reach them.
Still, Natsumi ran towards the main gate, carefully holding her smartphone.
She felt joy at being able to leave the academy safely.
From here on, she had to carefully hide from the zombies and head home.
Once she was home, she would be safe.
Her father and mother would protect Natsumi.
She didn’t think she could return to her usual daily life, but even so, as long as she was with her family, she wouldn’t be afraid of anything…
As she was thinking that, a loud noise came from Natsumi’s chest.
She had forgotten to turn down the volume on her smartphone, which she had set to maximum so she wouldn’t miss any calls.
Natsumi hurried to answer the call, but it was too late. The surrounding scenery made her spine freeze.
The zombies, who had heard the sound from somewhere, were running towards Natsumi.
“Natsumi? Are you okay? Natsumi, it’s mom!?”
Natsumi could hear her mother’s worried voice from the phone, and she couldn’t help but let out a voice.
“Why… why now?”
Natsumi stared in shock as the zombies rushed towards her.
The zombies trampled on the girl’s body, and without hesitation, they tore Natsumi’s body apart.
Natsumi screamed, as she witnessed the moment her own intestines were pulled out.
“Why did the call connect now, ahhhhhh!”

“Damn it! Die! There are zombies everywhere!”
Gouta was cursing as he ran around inside the school building.
He had been annoyed since yesterday. Especially, it really made him angry when Karamine called them bullies… He had kicked Karamine several times, but his anger hadn’t subsided.
He wanted to escape with the members who had been with him at that time, but he couldn’t find them.
Especially, losing Kokuso and Itsuki was a big deal. In situations like this, it was useful that Kokuso was the son of a wealthy businessman.
Gouta looked at the first floor while running away from the zombies, but there were also zombies wandering around the first-floor corridor.
He had to hide in a room somewhere.
Gouta found the room in front of him—the library—and he opened the door and rushed in.
T/N: Whoa whoa whoa!? Yumeee!????
