Chapter 78: Those Two Are Dating?

Rin went back down immediately after saying that. For some reason, not a single person came to this park, so now Haruna and I were alone. If I was going to get the story out of her, now was probably the time.

“For now… look, it’s all over. You’re safe now, Haruna.”

I sat on a bench. I decided to ignore the fact that Haruna was leaning heavily against me for the time being.

“…You really are kind. You haven’t changed a bit since that time, not at all.”

“I didn’t do anything. Even this time, we only managed because Rin came along.”

“That’s not true. You protected me again. You said it again, just like before. That I’m your hero. I was happy. So, so happy.”

Haruna looked at me with a gentle, bright smile like the sun, her eyes brimming with tears. 

Alright. I’ll ask her now.

“Hey, Haruna. Tell me what happened.”

“Is it okay if I start from when we were in kindergarten?”

“Of course. Tell me everything, every little bit.”

And then Haruna told me. She told me about all the various things Hinano Sumeragi had done to her. In kindergarten, she was hit, laughed at, and made fun of almost every day. Rumors were spread, and she was constantly avoided by everyone. No one would help her. Before she knew it, it had become a trauma she couldn’t escape from.

And then, the other day. She had been called out, hit again, and all sorts of things happened. She had been targeted once more. She was silenced by being told that we were being held as hostages. She was threatened. Hinano Sumeragi said she would spread bad rumors about her. She told me many things like that.

“That must have been painful.”

“Hakkun, what are you—”

By the time she finished talking, I was already hugging Haruna. I probably did it unconsciously. Yeah. I definitely was hugging her on impulse. Fate was truly cruel. Why did a delicate, easily hurt girl like Haruna had to go through something like this?

“This is all I can say, but… It’s okay now, Haruna. You don’t have to avoid us anymore. You don’t have to be alone anymore. Let’s all play together again. From now on, stay by my side forever.”

Wait, huh? Isn’t this an indirect confession!? Was that too creepy? Ugh, is this how humans keep adding to their dark history!!

For a while, Haruna cried against my chest. She wailed and sobbed. I thought it was a little cute. I felt it was heartwarming that nothing at all had changed since the old days. In the meantime, I sent out a message to the others. I told them that it was over. 

In the strangely deserted park where a gentle breeze blew through, Haruna pulled away from my chest and stood up after crying her heart out.

“Thank you, I’ve calmed down. Sorry, I got your chest all wet.”

“I’m just glad you’ve calmed down. Now, I’d like to say this is the end of the matter… but there’s approximately one person who has nothing but complaints, so please deal with her.”

“Eh?”

As Haruna stood there confused by what I said, a fluttering pink blur came running toward her with great momentum. And after reaching Haruna, only the sound of a sharp smack echoed.

“Mii-cha—”

“Haru-chan… Haru-chan, you idiot!!!! Do you have any idea how much Mii was worried! Why, why didn’t you say anything!!”

“I…I actually wanted to rely on you! I wanted to say ‘help me’! But I’m weak! I hated the idea of causing trouble for everyone because of me! That’s why… That’s why I couldn’t rely on you!”

“If it’s trouble, then cause as much as you want!! There is absolutely no way I would ever hate Haru-chan just for that!! Besides, Haru-chan keeping quiet and distancing herself is what causes the most trouble for Mii and the others!!”

It was the first time I had seen Misaki this emotional. Even with Tanaka, she had just been quietly angry, but to raise her voice and get angry like this… Haruna’s existence must be that important to Misaki.

“Mii-chan… I’m sorry. For staying silent, for leaving, and for making you worry. I heard from Hakkun that you were the one who worried about me the most. I’m sorry, Mii-chan.”

“I won’t… forgive you. If you want to be forgiven, then please go out with Mii, Haru-chan.”

“…Hah!?”

Wait, what!? Th-there’s no way someone confesses like that, right!? And wait? Then what about all that stuff she directed at me?! Is she the type to lead me on?? Wait, what?

“Yeah, okay. From today on, Mii-chan is my girlfriend, right?”

“Haru-chan is Mii’s girlfriend, too!”

“I won’t leave anymore, either.”

I was starting to lose track of what was what.  Wait, so… I was being delusional?  I thought for sure they both liked me… I mean, they said a lot of things to that effect, didn’t they!?

“I see. So going out with each other is also an option, huh…”

“Um, Nonoa?”

While I was standing there in confusion, the other three arrived. 

Well, for now, we’ve managed to regroup, but… Um, hmm… Hmmm?? Seriously, what does this mean?

Chapter 79: The Everyday Life I Love

We ended up taking quite a detour, but, well, yeah. Whatever. Since everyone here had such sharp minds, the riddles were solved as smoothly as a wafer snapping. The shock of those two dating had also completely vanished from my mind before I even knew it. Right now, I was just happy that our “usual everyday life” had returned.

“Goal!”

And so, we arrived at the summit. Quite a crowd had gathered at the peak, and though it was a bit hard to see through the people, I caught a glimpse of a truly beautiful view. Looking ahead, I saw towering buildings, schools nearby, supermarkets, and a vast number of houses. Looking down, I could see a landscape rich in nature, swathed in greenery.

“Look, Haa-kun! It’s beautiful! So, so beautiful!”

“Muna, I understand how you feel, but being too restless is dangerous. Don’t you think so, Haa-sama? Between me and this view, which is more beautiful? You’ll choose me, right?”

Just as I was thinking how cute Muna was while she was frolicking, I was suddenly blindsided by Nonoa. 

Wait, now? Right now? Usually, that kind of question will appear during fireworks or something—hey! The stares from the people around us really hurt!

This was one of those situations where I had to answer “Nonoa.” Why was I being subjected to a leading question by a super-popular idol I had only just met?

“It’s… Nonoa…”

“Fufu. Thank you for the perfect answer. I loooove that about you♡”

“Wait a minute, Nonoa? Don’t you think you’re getting a little too close to my Hakkun?”

“Oh, President. It’s fine, isn’t it? I’ve been so busy that I haven’t been able to see him for ages. Surely there’s no harm in being a little clingy at a time like this.”

And then, for some reason, she and Rin started sparking at each other. I mean, thinking about it normally, why was this scene unfolding right in front of my girlfriend? And Muna was just as bad for saying nothing. Well, actually, I was the one entirely at fault here.

“Muna. Let’s take a picture, just the two of us.”

“Eh. I-Is that okay?”

“I’m the one who wants to take it. We’re a couple, right?”

“Th-th-th-that’s right! Ehehehehe… Yeah, we are a couple, after all.”

While the other two were bickering, I snapped a quick two-shot. I took it with my arm around her shoulder. There was me, smiling for the camera, and Muna, whose face was flushed and looking a bit goofy. She was adorable.

“Nfufu, Haru-chan♡”

“Misaki, you’re too close.”

Misaki and Haruna were flirting. Good for them.

“Well, we still have time, so why don’t we try the sightseeing course on the way back?”

“Mii agrees!”

“I agree too. May I stand next to you next, Hara-kun?”

“I don’t mind, but is Misaki okay with that?”

“Muu, no fair. Then Mii is coming too!”

The way down was easy. There was a slider connected to the entrance, and if you slid down, you’d be there in no time. With that decided, we proceeded toward the nature sightseeing course.

In the lead were Rin, Nonoa, and Muna. Following behind them were Misaki, me, and Haruna. As usual, I ended up in the middle at times like this. Since we were dating, you’d think she’d just stay by my side, but well.

“You’re in high spirits, Haruna.”

“Fufu, can you tell? I’m just so happy right now.”

“Mii is happy too. Being able to do this with everyone I love is really delightful.”

“Me too. I’m happy. I love our usual days spent with everyone.”

Even though Nonoa had been added to the mix. Even so, I absolutely loved these “usual everyday life” where we could keep laughing through idle chatter including her. This was my treasure, something I’d protect no matter what I had to give up.

“What’s wrong? Hakkun. Acting all cool all of a sudden… Doing that is only going to make us like you more, you know?”

“It’s going to go up!?”

“Yes, it will. Because Hakkun is cool no matter what he does. Right, fellow girlfriends?”

“Of course. Haa-sama makes us swoon with every word and action. Truly, a sinful man.”

“Why is Nonoa the one answering there!?”

“Hm? Because I’m Haa-sama’s girlfriend, of course.”

Wait, was Nonoa always like this? Sure, I had always thought she was the aggressive type, but this was something else. I mean, seriously, why? Did I do something to Nonoa…? It didn’t seem like it was just about Misaki.

What should I do if it turned out to be something really important? Oh no, I can’t remember a siiiingle thing. Also, is it really okay for a Miss Idol to be saying that??!!

“Nonoa-chan!! I’m his girlfriend, you know?! Goodness!”

“Mii too! Mii is also Haa-chan’s girlfriend.”

“Okay, stop making things up. And don’t cling to me, Misaki, Haruna! It’s hard to walk!”

I’d already grown used to it, but naturally, both of them were clinging tightly to me. 

Huh, that’s strange. Didn’t those two just start dating each other? If they’re going to cling to someone, shouldn’t it be to each other? Why me??
