Inside a Ferris wheel wrapped in white snow. The only thing I could hear was slightly rough breathing. It was clear that she was very nervous. She took my hand and said.
“I’m only going to say this once. So listen carefully.”
“Yeah, I got it.”
“…Um.”
“Hara Kamitsuru-kun. I like you. I really like you. Please go out with me.”

“Hah—”
I had a dream. A dream where someone confessed to me. It cut off right at the best part. Seriously, what was that? Man, dreams like that are something every guy longs for. It would’ve been nice if it showed me just a little more.

Chapter 42: What Happened After That
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
About three months had passed since that revenge, and it was now early December. A lot of things had changed during those three months. First, Tanaka and Matsumae had stopped coming to school. As for Tanaka, after everything that happened to him, it felt only natural. But I had no idea what happened to Matsumae.
After that, things escalated beyond the underground site and even made the news. The teachers who had been on it with Matsumae all resigned. Every single one of them gave me intense apologies. And ever since then, while not quite to the level of Muna and the others, the teachers had become somewhat overprotective toward me. And well, since three months had passed, the rumors had completely disappeared without a trace. Now, I was living a normal, happy, ordinary life.
“Morning, Haa-kun!”
“Mornin’, Muna. Huh? Where are Haruna and the others?”
“They both caught colds and are taking the day off. So today, I get to have you all to myself.”
By now, I was used to waking up and finding Muna and the others in the living room. In fact, it felt stranger when they weren’t there. Mom didn’t say anything either. At this point, they were basically just family.
“They caught colds, huh. Well, it does get chilly this time of year.”
“You should make sure you don’t catch one too, Haa-kun. Oh, but if you do, I’ll take care of you 24/7.”
“That’d be a problem. I’d end up giving it to you.”
“I wouldn’t mind, as long as it’s from you.”
Her words were still pretty heavy, as always. That said, she didn’t get gloomy nearly as much anymore. Maybe it was because everything with Tanaka had been resolved.
“Alright, let’s head to school.”
“Yeah. I’m heading out.”
And just like that, we left the house and started walking to school, when I suddenly felt a warm sensation in my right hand. Our fingers were tightly intertwined.
“Muna… again?”
“It’s fine, it’s cold, after all. And I told you, right? Today I get to have you all to myself.”
“Even so, I’d rather you not do the lovers’ hand-hold. It makes me start having weird thoughts.”
“Weird thoughts, huh. I actually want you to have those. If it’s from you, I’d be happy with anything. Actually, I want you to.”
Muna grabbed my hand often. And almost every time, it was that lovers’ interlocked grip. Well, I wasn’t some oblivious protagonist, so I understood. Muna was seriously in love with me. But still! I was a teenage guy in the middle of puberty. Sometimes, I couldn’t help having indecent thoughts. That was what I didn’t like. Why? Simple answer. Because it reminded me of Tanaka.
To be honest, Muna had a pretty big chest. Really big. So even without this kind of closeness, it was already enough to make me have weird thoughts. And with this distance on top of that? It was downright lethal.
“You’re really okay with that, Muna?”
“Of course I am! In fact, I’m kind of annoyed that you don’t do anything.”
“Maybe when I turn into some uncontrollable pervert.”
Still, it actually helped. Right now, when it was so cold that my hands would go numb right away, the warmth of someone like Muna, what people call “naturally warm,” felt like a blessing. And so, like that, we headed to school while flirting, I guess. The guys in class shot me jealous looks, and we went through classes, ate lunch, and then headed home.
“Haa-kun, which way are you going?”
On the way back, Muna suddenly asked me that. She was probably asking whether I’d visit Haruna or Misaki. She herself had mentioned it before, but out of the four of them, I had spent the least time with Misaki. I met her back in third grade. So, well…
“Misaki, I guess.”
“Got it! Then I’ll go see Haru-chan! Hehe, see you tomorrow!”
“Yeah, see you.”
We parted at the school gate. Then I headed toward Misaki’s house. Misaki’s house, huh. It had been a while. The last time I went there was probably… when we first met.
After walking for dozens of minutes through a residential area and passing plenty of students on their way home, I arrived at a normal house made of red bricks. Then I rang the doorbell.
“Who is it?”
“It’s been a while, Hanado-san. It’s Kamitsuru. I came to visit Misaki.”
“Kamitsuru-kun! It’s been quite a while. Please, come in.”
The one who opened the door and greeted me with a smile was Sachi Hanado-san, Misaki’s grandmother. I’d heard she was almost sixty, but she looked very lively, which was good to see.
“Do you remember where Misaki’s room is?”
“Yes, I remember.”
“Hehe, that’s good. I’m glad you came, Kamitsuru-kun. Misaki will be very happy.”
“I’m glad to hear that.”
After a brief exchange, I went up the stairs and knocked a few times on the room labeled “misaki,” then went in.
“Misaki, it’s me. I’m coming in.”
Inside, Misaki was lying in bed with a cooling gel sheet on her forehead, looking surprised as she saw me.
“Haa-chan? Why are you here?”
“I came to visit you. Muna told me you caught a cold, so I got worried. Sorry I didn’t bring anything.”
“No, please don’t worry about it. Just you coming here already makes me very happy.”
I sat down beside her.
“How are you feeling?”
“I’m okay. Thanks to resting, I’ve gotten a lot better.”
“What, did you get into another fight with Haruna?”
“Yes… we ended up arguing again for quite a while, about you, Haa-chan. Now I feel really sorry to Haru-chan.”
“You haven’t changed, huh. Not since back then.”
“Hehe, that’s true. But… Being able to argue like this is also thanks to you, Haa-chan.”
