“Wait a second. Why are Muna and the others with that guy again? You still don’t get it, Muna? That guy is a hopeless piece of trash. You never know when you might end up being his victim—”
“Morning, trash.”
“Good morning. You garbage bug.”
That was terrifying. Muna and Misaki’s attitudes completely flipped in an instant. Compared to what they showed that girl earlier, this was on an entirely different level. It felt like an overwhelming killing intent filled the entire classroom.
Even I, who wasn’t supposed to be the target, felt like throwing up. I was breathing, right? Right now? This was terrifying. Their eyes… their eyes were completely different. That was a look that could kill someone on the spot.
“That’s right, that’s how it should be. Come on, over here to me.”
This guy was an idiot. He didn’t even realize those words were directed at him. He really thought that line was meant for me. …Wait, it wasn’t meant for me, right?
“It’s okay, Hakkun.”
Haruna whispered softly and gently stroked my head with her cool hand. I felt relieved. Still, was that guy seriously that stupid? How could he not realize it?
“Don’t mess with me. I’m talking to you, you trash-tier scumbag.”
“That’s right. Please stop making such convenient, disgusting misunderstandings that make me want to throw up. Actually, could you just die? You garbage bug.”
Strong, strong, way too strong! Their words were way too sharp! The cutting edge was insane! And seriously, was Misaki really like this!? Wasn’t she the type who was terrible with insults!?
“Wha… huh… what?”
Unable to understand what was happening, Tanaka looked around in confusion. Then he realized. All the contemptuous gazes that had been directed at me until now were now turned entirely toward him.
“Hey, you. You really have the nerve to say I might become a victim after laying hands on me so many times. I know, you know? That you were after my chest. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have hit me over and over since we were little. And yet you tried to make Haa-kun, who’s always protected me, into the perpetrator? Don’t push it too far.”
“I remember, you know. You were the one who spread rumors about me back in elementary school. And on top of that, you were stalking me too, right? And then you got jealous of Haa-chan and harassed him, seriously, are you kidding me? Why don’t you try dying ten thousand times? Actually, just go die already.”
Voices of shock and disgust rose from all over the classroom. Come to think of it, yeah… that did happen. Both Muna and Misaki had suffered because of him. It was just that, given the timing back then, it was hard for them to reject him outright. In short, I stepped in between them, and that was how I ended up earning his resentment. And Haruna too.
But Misaki? Isn’t your character completely breaking down here?
“W-why…”
“Who knows. Maybe if you think about it yourself, you’ll figure it out? Ah, but with that empty, filthy excuse of a brain, maybe you can’t. Sorry.”
“Hehe, that’s too kind, Muna. Calling it filthy and beneath scum is still too generous, don’t you think?”
“Ah, right! Thanks, Haru-chan!”
After being verbally torn apart like that, Tanaka’s legs gave out and he collapsed to his knees. My condolences. Getting shredded like that by the girl you like? There was no way he’d recover from that anytime soon.
“This… this has to be a lie… why…”
“Oh dear, already broken? Hehe… don’t mess with me.”
“!?”
Misaki spoke in an incredibly low, menacing voice, loud enough for everyone to hear. It was the first time I had ever heard her truly, deeply angry. A chill ran down my spine. My body slowly grew cold from the inside out. Mostly from fear. Tanaka couldn’t even form words anymore. He just sat there, mouth opening and closing.
“This is only the beginning, you know. You don’t actually think this ends here, do you? The suffering Haa-chan went through was far greater. We’ll make sure you experience it properly, double the amount.”
“Hey, Haruki. Take a good look at everyone’s faces.”
Tanaka did as Muna said and looked around. His face gradually turned pale. The sight was pitiful, almost amusing. But that alone wouldn’t be enough for a scumbag like Haruki Tanaka.
“Y-you did something, didn’t you!? Kamitsuru!!”
“Hah? Don’t say stupid things.”
He stood up with a trembling body and ran toward me, raising his fist. Honestly, this guy really was an idiot to the core. How could he not understand that laying a hand on me in this situation would only make things worse? His fist hit my face. It hurt a bit. But that was fine. Now the rumors had taken a clear, tangible form and become reality. Who would win, who people would side with, all of that was now more obvious than anything.
“H-ha, hahahaha! This is what you get for trying to frame me! Come on, say it! What did you do to Muna and the others!? You did something, didn’t you!? Otherwise there’s no way they’d look down on me! Everyone knows, right!? All the terrible things this guy has done—”
“…Behind the school building, okay?”
Just as he was getting carried away, Muna cut him off with a single line, spoken in an incredibly low, chilling tone. Just that one sentence. But it was enough to strip away any right to refuse.
“I’d be happy if you came too, Haa-kun. If you can’t, that’s totally fine though. Is it okay?”
“Y-yeah. I don’t mind at all.”
“Alright then. Um, Class Rep? Could you tell the teacher that the five of us are busy?”
“Y-yes!!”
And so, the five of us headed behind the school building. During that time, Muna kept a gentle smile directed at me, but whenever Tanaka tried to say something to her, she completely ignored him. These three… I carved it deep into my instincts that I must never, ever make them angry.
