Chapter 23: Isn’t It Usually the Other Way Around?

“Anyway, there you go. Whenever you want.”

“I’m not doing it!?”

After that, she kept teasing me. She would lightly flip up her skirt and keep showing off those slightly plump, alluring thighs. Seriously, this person is dangerous. What if I were actually a pervert?

Well… I am, though.

“Geez, Rin wouldn’t mind if you did it though.”

“Rin-nee, were you always like this?”

“Hm? Yeah. This is the real Rin. The real Rin that only you get to see. Oh, and if you say you don’t want it now, I’ll kill you.”

“I won’t, I won’t. It’s just… how do I put it, you kind of remind me of Haruna.”

It felt like I was looking at a slightly shorter version of Haruna. Come to think of it, I had thought about this for a while. The real Haruna and the real Rin-nee were really similar. 

The clingy side, the slightly bold parts, and that cute way they act that makes them seem younger than their actual age. All of that felt very similar to Haruna.

“Huh. So Rin is cute?”

“Well, yeah. You’re really cute.”

“H-huh… I see.”

See, especially the way she gets flustered when praised.

“Hey, Hakkun.”

“What is it, Rin-nee?”

“I love you.”

“I know.”

“Won’t you say it back?”

“We’re not even dating, you know.”

Are we a couple or something? Just like Haruna, she ends up acting like we’re dating, and that’s really not good!! Well, she probably wouldn’t mind either way.

“Oh, the bath’s ready.”

A cheerful, lively tune echoed through the house. The bath… I felt like something was going to happen. No, something definitely was going to happen. It wasn’t that I disliked it, but I wished she had been a little more mindful of herself.

“I’ll go in first. Rin-nee, take your time.”

And so, I headed toward the bathroom, but…

“Hey. Why are you following me?”

“To bathe together, of course.”

Just as I expected, Rin-nee followed me. And she even brought a change of clothes.

“Rin-nee, are you really okay with that? A teenage boy is going to see your body, you know?”

“If it’s you, Hakkun, I don’t mind at all. Actually, I want you to savor every inch of my body. Only you, okay? I’m not some kind of exhibitionist.”

“Aren’t you being contradictory?”

“Wouldn’t you be happy? I mean, I think I’ve got a pretty great body. Smaller than Muna’s, sure, but my chest is still fairly big.”

Rin-nee looked at me like this was completely normal. 

Like that’s normal at all!! I’m a teenage high school boy right in the middle of puberty! Even if we’re childhood friends, if I bathe with a once-in-a-century beauty like this, my self-control is going to snap!!

I held back from shouting that and kept up a calm front as I continued talking to Rin-nee. Of course, if she started taking off her clothes, I would stop her immediately.

“That’s exactly why. I admit you’re really cute and have a great body, Rin-nee. But that’s why I don’t want to get in.”

“Why? We used to bathe together all the time when we were little! Washing each other and all.”

“That was before I knew all this stuff!”

After about ten minutes of intense back-and-forth, the result was…

“It feels nice, Hakkun.”

“Y-yeah…”

I gave in. I got in. Together with Rin-nee. Together with the girl admired by the whole school as the most beautiful…!! I was looking away with all my might, though!! She wasn’t even using a towel or anything!

And I was covering myself as much as possible. I could already tell I’d get teased otherwise. Shouldn’t this situation normally have been the other way around? And what was this? Was she trying to tempt me?

“Hey, hey, I want you to look over here.”

“Even if you say that, no.”

“Tch.”

My heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might burst. Honestly, I might not want her to talk to me right now. This was really bad in a lot of ways. Right, I should just get out quickly.

“I’m getting out first, okay?”

“Already?”

In the end, I probably didn’t even stay in the bath for ten minutes. But this was fine. This was fine. Rin-nee was an important childhood friend. I didn’t want to have those kinds of thoughts about her.

“Hakkun!”

“Wha—!?”

While I was calmly drying my heated body with a towel,  the door suddenly slammed open while my heart was still racing. Rin-nee came out completely naked, impossible to avoid, and I ended up seeing her body. Her beautiful waist, her toned stomach, and her fully exposed chest. It was only for a moment, but it burned into my mind. I’m kind of disgusted with myself.

“Ahaha, you finally looked.”

“Rin-nee, isn’t that cheating!?”

“Aww, you looked away again. But the surprise was a big success. I’ll stay in a little longer, so leave the towel there.”

“Got it… huh?”

Wait, is she planning to use the same towel!? No, stop. Let’s stop reacting. If I react, it’ll just make her happy.

The moment I returned to my room, I collapsed onto the bed. I was exhausted. Just completely exhausted. My stomach didn’t hurt anymore, but everything else felt drained. It was all Rin-nee’s fault. That said, I was also grateful. Thanks to her, I managed to recover a little more of my lost memories. That was something I truly appreciated. Come to think of it, it was the same the first time I stayed over. Rin-nee made food for me. Then we bathed together, and just like in the photo, we hugged each other and smiled as we fell asleep. We were retracing it. Doing the same things as that day, exactly. 

Which means that next—

I’ll end up falling asleep while hugging Rin-nee… but for some reason, I don’t mind that. Haruna used to do that a lot anyway.
