Volume 2 Chapter 5: Epilogue
After the weekend, Monday arrived.
I was experiencing something for the first time in my life—stealthy movements, tiptoeing with caution.
Even though I knew it was pointless to try to avoid the gaze of others at this time of day, after everything that happened, I didn’t have the courage to ascend the stairs openly.
Phew…
Finally reaching the classroom, I let out a big sigh and opened the door—
“““Yo, our dear friend, Amakusa-kun!”””
Waiting for me were my friends, all with wide grins on their faces.
“Y-You guys, your faces look kinda scary…”
“Come on, we’re just smiling, aren’t we?”
Sato put a hand on my shoulder, but the force behind it wasn’t normal.
“Yeah, what’s with all the strange things you’re saying, Amakusa?”
Takahashi stepped forward, and his indoor shoes completely stepped on my foot.
“Our friendship won’t crumble, no matter what!”
In Ito’s eyes, there was a glint I had never seen before, a burning, almost predatory light.
“Uh… you’re mad, right?”
I hesitated to ask, and then—
“Of course we’re mad, idiot!” “What the hell did you do with the president?!” “I’m already jealous of Chocolat-chan, but you’ve gotta be dead now, huh?!”
“N-No, you guys, calm down!”
The punch landed right on my solar plexus! What the hell? They’ve changed—their tone, their characters, everything’s different! This is bad! These guys are more terrifying than the Yawakaze’s personal guards!
“O-ow… Those guys…”
A few seconds later, I was thrown into the corner of the classroom, lying there like a ragdoll.
A shadow approached me.
“Yukihira…”
I forced myself to get up, holding my aching body.
“Good morning, ○×▼□●.”
I thought I heard some ridiculous words, but—
“Yukihira, what did you just say?”
“It was ○×▼□●.”
“Out, out, out! That’s a broadcast ban!”
That was definitely a forbidden phrase.
“What I said was my honest feelings for you, Amakusa-kun. Didn’t you like it?”
“I did not like it!”
“It was just a joke.”
“No, that was beyond the level of a joke…”
Seeing me stare in disbelief, Yukihira opened her mouth again, her expression as emotionless as usual.
“So, what was with that thing with the president, huh?”
“Ugh…”
Logically, I knew everyone must have been curious about that, but I never expected Yukihira to ask me directly.
“What about that story of you… doing something with the president?”
“That sounds really inappropriate!”
“I’m not joking around. I’m asking you seriously.”
“Clearly, you are the one joking around right now!”
“Because… if I don’t do this… I wouldn’t have the courage to ask.”
“…Yukihira?”
It seemed like she said something, but her voice was so quiet that I couldn’t hear it at all.
“…I guess it’s fine now.”
“W-Wait, Yukihira…”
Yukihira turned on her heels and walked back to her seat… Something felt off about her.
As I was pondering this, someone called out from behind me.
“Ah, Amacchi…”
“Yuuouji…”
Since she had left early on Friday, this was the first time I was seeing Yuuouji since the incident with the underwear.
Although it was an accident, I knew I had done something wrong. I was about to apologize when Yuuouji spoke up first.
“U-Um, you know, I’m wearing spats today, so it’s fine. I-I’m okay, really!”
I had no idea what was supposed to be “fine,” but one thing was certain—Yuuouji was far from fine.
Her face was bright red, she couldn’t even make eye contact with me, and her legs were twitching nervously.
This girl… Why is she so embarrassed when it comes to underwear? If she keeps acting like this, I’ll start feeling embarrassed too—
Suddenly, someone tapped me on the shoulder.
“I was just—wh-WHAT!?”
When I turned around, I was met with the smiling face of Kuroshiraiin Seira, the president.
“When did you—”
She stood there, surrounded by the gazes of everyone in the classroom, smiling widely.
“I wanted to see you, Amakusa-san.”
“Wha…?”
The entire class started buzzing with excitement.
“W-Wait, President! What are you saying!?”
“Come on, don’t be so distant. Call me Seira like you always do.”
What the hell is she talking about?
“Are you embarrassed to call me Seira in front of everyone? Well, how about somewhere where it’s just the two of us—”
“NOOO! STOP! COME HERE!”
I reflexively grabbed the president’s hand and rushed out of the classroom.
“What do you think you’re doing!?”
I dragged the president to a quieter place and, completely forgetting my usual politeness, yelled at her.
“Hehe, I’m thinking of many things~”
As usual, her voice was teasing and carefree.
Damn it… This is bad. I need to get to the point before this goes nowhere.
“President, that’s enough. After all this, it’s obvious you’re connected to ‘the gods.’ Could you stop beating around the bush and just tell me what your goal is?”
The president continued to speak slowly, as if nothing had happened, while placing a finger to her lips.
“Amakusa-san. Have you ever fallen in love with someone?”
The words that left her mouth were completely unrelated to my question.
“President, can you just answer my question—”
“Have you ever fallen in love with someone~?”
There was an undeniable force in her words, leaving no room for rebuttal.
Slightly frustrated but helpless, I answered.
“Fallen in love…? Of course I have. Right now, I’m probably being avoided by girls because of my… situation, but back in middle school, I was pretty popular. I’ve even been confessed to a few times…”
….Huh?
As I noticed my own expression, the president smiled with a satisfied look.
“Fufu, the curse you call the ‘Absolute Choice’ is something that people like you are bound to experience.”
“People like me… What do you mean by that?”
“Fufu, it’s what you just realized~”
The president’s gaze subtly implied that she wouldn’t say more than that.
“…Well, I guess that doesn’t matter. But can you at least tell me why you act like you have feelings for me?”
“Because it’s frustrating~”
“Huh?”
The president answered nonchalantly.
“This role was originally meant for that girl, but it seems like she’s not doing a very good job, so I decided to step in directly~”
That girl… She’s talking about Chocolat, isn’t she?
“Well, I guess this is enough for now~”
“Ah, wait a second, president…”
“Well then~”
With that, Kokubyakuin Seira, the president, said what she needed to say and vanished with light footsteps, disappearing somewhere.
“…What the heck was that all about?”
Still feeling confused, I returned to the front of the classroom and spotted Chocolat.
“Ah… Kanade-san.”
“Oh, looks like you made it in time.”
I had left her alone since she had been fast asleep, but it seemed like she had finally managed to wake up on her own.
“Huh?”
Something was off about Chocolat. Her usual cheerful smile had faded, and her tail was drooping like a withered plant.
“Chocolat?”
“Kanade-san… I’m not hungry.”
“Huh?”
I couldn’t immediately understand what she was saying.
Not hungry? For someone like her, who’s always hungry, there’s no way that could be true… Wait. Looking more closely, her face seems flushed. Could she have a fever?
“Let’s just go inside. Sit down and tell me what’s going on—uh…”
As I grabbed Chocolat’s hand and opened the door, the eyes of the entire class turned toward me.
Crap… I had sneaked out under some pretty sketchy circumstances.
What should I do? How do I get out of this—
[Choose: ① Hug Chocolat ② Hug Yukihira Furano ③ Hug Yuuouji]
Impossible… A three-choice option?!
