My Little Sister Suddenly Confessed to Me, but What Am I Supposed to Do by Dating My Little Sister? - Chapter 54 & 55 & 56
Chapter 54: A Serious Date
Early Saturday morning, while our parents were still asleep, my sister and I hurried out.
It was now July. Although the end of the rainy season hadn’t been officially declared yet, it hadn’t rained lately. The sky was cloudless, and the rising temperature lifted my spirits.
Shiori was dressed in a summery outfit: a white off-the-shoulder blouse with frilled sleeves, a light pink floral mini-skirt, slightly platformed sandals, a straw hat with a ribbon, and red fashion glasses.
Me? You want to know? A shirt and denim…
I’d considered many destinations and chose a place that was moderately far away—to avoid running into anyone we knew—and perfect for a date.
Yokohama!
I mean, when you think of a date, you think of the sea, right? And style? In Tokyo, there’s still a chance of bumping into acquaintances, but if we go as far as Yokohama, we should be safe.
And this time, I’m not going to think of my sister as a sister! I’m a man too, after all—I want to flirt with a girl once in a while. My sister happens to be incredibly cute. It’s okay to cut loose once in a while, like it’s New Year’s! (Wait, it’s July.)
We headed to the station and boarded the train. We spent the first hour or so talking about nothing special until we cleared our local area. After a few transfers, we arrived at Yokohama Station.
Yokohama, in Kanagawa Prefecture. For some reason, many people from Kanagawa say they are from “Yokohama” rather than the prefecture. It’s a place where the city name is more famous than the prefecture name—home to Minato Mirai, Landmark Tower, parks, and museums. For those from Kansai, it’s a feeling similar to Kobe.
“We’re here! Alright, Shiori, let’s put our hearts into this date!”
I thrust my fist toward her.
“Yeah!”
Shiori thrust her fist back. To an onlooker, we might have looked strange, but switching mindsets requires spirit!
“Alright, first, we’re holding hands!”
“Nice, Onii-chan! Keep it up!”
We linked hands. The warmth of her hand made my tension rise.
“Shiori, follow my lead today!”
“No… not just today. I’ll follow you for the rest of my life!!”
Uh, sorry, ‘the rest of my life’ is a bit heavy.
“First, that! We’re riding that!”
I pointed toward the sea.
“That?”
“We’re taking the boat. The water bus! …Actually, I’m getting tired of this hyped-up tone, so I’m switching back to talking normally, jan.”
“Got it, doing that, jan.”
Using fake Yokohama-ben (ending sentences with jan), we headed to the water bus boarding point. A boat was already there. We bought tickets and boarded. Stepping on carefully as it swayed, we found seats in a relatively empty section. From the windows, we could see the Yokohama department stores.
“Let’s go to the back deck once we set sail.”
After a while, the engine roared, and with a light jolt, the boat began to move.
I headed to the aft deck with my sister. The scent of the sea felt much stronger out there. The engine was quite loud, so I had to raise my voice to talk to her.
“Wow, Onii-chan! Look, seagulls! So cute!”
A few seagulls were flying behind the water bus.
The view from the boat wasn’t so much “ocean scenery” as it was looking at the Yokohama cityscape from the water. It was mostly buildings, but seeing them from the sea made them feel different. As we watched the Landmark Tower and the sail-shaped hotel, the Minato Mirai Ferris wheel drew closer.
“Want to ride the Ferris wheel again?”
I asked, remembering the one in Odaiba.
“Ehehe… this time, we’ll be the ones showing off. Ehehehe.”
No, we won’t…
We didn’t get off at Minato Mirai and continued to the next stop.
“It’s a bit cold out on the water.”
“Let’s go inside then.”
We’d caught enough sea breeze, so we returned to our seats. Looking out the window, the Bay Bridge came into view.
“The night view must be beautiful. When it gets dark, ehe… ehehehe.”
Shiori was back to just saying “ehehe.”
“We can’t stay that late. Exams are coming up soon.”
“Ehhhhh… I don’t want to go home today.”
Shiori looked up at me with upturned, moist eyes.
“Yeah, yeah.”
I tried to gloss over the fluttering in my chest caused by her words and gaze.
“We’re lovers today, right? Say something more!”
“Yes, yes. I love you, I love you.”
“Ehehehehehehehehe.”
While we were at it, we arrived at the Red Brick Warehouse (Akarenga Sōko).
Apparently, it used to be a bonded warehouse, but now it’s a shopping center where you can shop and eat. Check Wikipedia for details. We saw the long, Western-style buildings made of red brick.
“Wow, it’s so pretty! Amazing!”
Shiori was excited by the warehouse right in front of her as we disembarked.
“Let’s eat something. It’s a bit late, but we haven’t had breakfast.”
“What are we eating?”
“There might be a line, but there’s a famous pancake place, so let’s go there.”
It was a world-famous pancake restaurant that opens in the morning and always has a long line. It wasn’t even noon yet, but being Saturday, there was a wait. Luckily, a large group left just then, so we got in without much delay.
The pancakes were nearly 2,000 yen each. I knew it beforehand, but it’s a bit pricey for high schoolers.
“Wooooow! So fluffy! Sweet! Delicioooous!”
Well, if I can see her looking this happy, I guess it’s cheap? I thought while eating mine. Sweet!
We finished our late breakfast of pancakes and coffee and left. Shiori stubbornly refused to let me pay for everything, so we split the bill. The warehouse was lined with various other shops.
We shopped for a while. Shiori stopped at a sundries shop, staring intently at an item. I stood beside her to look.
“Onii-chan, buy this for me.”
She suddenly made a request. She had never asked me to buy her something in a place like this before. Even though she insisted on paying for her own meal earlier, I looked to see what she wanted: it was a silver ring.
It was a silver ring, but given the price, it was likely just silver-plated. She was pointing at it. A ring, huh? Well, it’s cheap, so it’s fine.
“Sure, if it’s just this much.”
I bought the ring and handed it to her.
“You put it on me, Onii-chan.”
She held out her left hand. I tried to put it on her middle finger, but:
“Nooooo! This one!”
She lifted her ring finger.
“Seriously?”
I slipped the silver ring onto her ring finger.
“Hoeeeeeeee…”
Shiori let out a strange sound, looking entranced by the finger wearing the ring.
I felt embarrassed and urged her along, saying, “Come on, let’s go.”
“Yeah!”
She followed behind me, but even as she walked, she couldn’t stop staring at the ring.
Chapter 55: Serious Date
“Hey, watch out.”
I reached out to my sister, who was staring blankly at her left hand and about to bump into someone. Instead of just taking my hand, she wrapped her arm around mine.
“Ehehe, it’s okay because we’re lovers, right?”
You wrap your arm around mine all the time even when we’re not lovers.
Through my shirt, I felt the sensation of her chest and her body heat, making my heartbeat spike.
Shiori’s cuteness drew piercing stares from all around. Yes, yes, we don’t match. I know.
“Well, let’s go to the next place.”
“…Eh? Yeah, let’s. Where are we going?”
“There’s an interesting museum nearby. Let’s go there.”
“A museum?”
Saying that, we walked away with the Red Brick Warehouse at our backs. After walking leisurely for less than ten minutes, we arrived.
“Cup Noodle Museum?”
Shiori read the words written on the building.
“Yeah. Doesn’t it sound interesting?”
“What’s there?”
“Well… let’s just go.”
It was a memorial hall for a famous cup noodle brand, featuring the history of cup noodles, types that had been sold, package displays, and various noodle dishes from around the world that you could eat.
What’s especially interesting is that you can make your own original cup noodles. (Separate fee from admission. I’ve changed the name.)
After viewing the exhibits—the founder’s history, past packages, etc.—we went to make our original cup noodles.
“Heeeh, we make it ourselves?”
“Apparently, you choose the ingredients and flavor, then draw pictures or write on the cup. Oh! It looks like you use those pens over there.”
“Heeeh.”
There were a lot of kids around, but the two of us had drawing time.
“What should I write? ‘Special Ramen,’ maybe?”
When I looked to see what my sister was writing, she was drawing tons of heart marks along with caricatures of herself and me. And they actually looked like us.
“Shiori, you’re good at drawing too?”
What is with this sister? Is she all-powerful? Shouldn’t I find a weakness or something before she goes out of control?
“Eh? Yeah, I’ve been writing a lovey-dovey picture diary about you and me since I was little.”
Uh… that’s information I didn’t really want to hear.
Is this perfect sister’s weakness… me? (Not so much a weakness as a fatal flaw.)
After finishing drawing on the cups, we went to choose the ingredients.
“Wow, so cute! I’ll make everything chicks!”
“Then I’ll make everything meat.”
Finally, we put them in packs, injected air into them like balloons, and we were done.
“Uh… these are bulky.”
“There’s string. I guess we’re supposed to carry them like this?”
I was a bit hesitant to walk around carrying this, but we could probably buy a bag somewhere.
“Well, we only had pancakes earlier, so let’s grab a light meal here.”
Saying that, we went to the restaurant where you could eat noodles from around the world. When we entered, it was more like a food court than a restaurant—stalls lined up with noodle dishes from various countries.
“Shiori, what do you want to eat?”
“Ah, um, hmm, I’m still full from the pancakes, so I’m good.”
“Eh? Really? Ah, should we do this later then?”
Since we were in Yokohama, the main event was the night, so I wanted to kill some more time here. Hmm, maybe we could take a walk or go to Chinatown?
“It’s fine, Onii-chan. That wasn’t enough for you, right? Go ahead and eat. I’ll watch.”
“No, that would be boring for you, Shiori.”
“Ehhhh, it’s fine. I’ll watch. Ah, or give me a bite. Say ‘ahhh.'”
She opened her mouth with a red face.
“No, doing ‘ahhh’ with noodles is difficult. Well, don’t mind if I do then.”
“Yep.”
I sat down, ordered, and ate alone. Shiori stared blankly at the ring with a red face again. She must have really been happy. I’m glad I bought it…
After leaving the museum, we walked through a nearby park along the waterfront to digest. The sail-shaped hotel loomed large in front of us, and from a different angle than from the boat, it looked different again.
Shiori walked beside me, clinging to my arm. Ah, this is nice. Doesn’t this feel like a couple? While thinking that, I told Shiori about the rest of the plan.
“Hmm, we have some extra time. I’ve planned up to this point, but what should we do next? I want to see the night view. It’s a bit far, but there’s Minato-no-Mieru Oka Park with Western-style mansions that look interesting. Shiori, do you want to see Western-style mansions?”
I asked while considering whether to take a bus or taxi, but:
“Eh?”
“Huh?”
“Ah, sorry, I wasn’t listening, Onii-chan.”
Eh? My sister wasn’t listening to me? Shiori?
My sister had never failed to listen to me before. She might ask me to repeat something, but to not listen at all…
Come to think of it, she’d been spacing out for a while now. Something seemed off. The arm linked with mine was trembling slightly.
“Shiori, are you cold?”
“Eh? Yeah, a little.”
When I looked at her face, it had been red this whole time.
“Hold on a sec,” I said, touching her forehead. It was clearly hot.
“Whoa! Shiori, you have a fever!”
“Eh? Really?”
“Come to think of it, when we first held hands this morning, your hand felt hot too. Have you been feeling bad since this morning?”
“Eh? Hmm, I guess I felt a little sluggish?”
“Why didn’t you say anything…? Let’s go home.”
“Eh? No.”
“Huh?”
“I’m not going home.”
“What are you talking about? Your fever is pretty high.”
“I’m fine, Onii-chan. I want to see that.”
“No, we’re going home.”
“No.”
“Shiori.”
“I don’t want to.”
“Shiori!”
“No, no, no! Absolutely not!”
“Shiori, we have to.”
“Noooo! No, no, no, no!”
“I’m not going home… I don’t want to go home…”
My sister looked down and wouldn’t look at me.
“Shiori, don’t be selfish.”
I grabbed her shoulders and tried to make her face me.
“No! Absolutely… no!!”
Shiori shook her head violently from side to side, her hair flying. The hat she’d been wearing rolled away.
“No… Onii-chan finally said we’re lovers, and it’s been so long since we had a date… I don’t want to! I don’t want to go hoooome!”
Ignoring the fallen hat, my sister began to cry, tears streaming down (poro poro).
“Nooo! I want to stay with you longer, Onii-chan! I don’t want to go hoooome!”
I approached my sister and held her head to my chest.
“Let’s go home, okay? We’ll come again. Summer vacation is almost here.”
“Waaaah! You even bought me a riiiing! I was looking forward to this since yesterday! It was so fuuuun!”
“Yeah, let’s go home… okay?”
“Waaaaaah…”
I let my crying sister sob into my chest as I stroked her hair.
After a while, she seemed to calm down and finally stopped crying.
“…Onii-chan… I’m sorry…”
“It’s okay. We’ll come again, alright?”
And so, my serious Yokohama date ended before nightfall.
Chapter 56: A Serious Date
On the train ride home from Yokohama, my sister leaned against me and slept the entire way.
When we reached our local station, I woke her up and we disembarked.
“Onii-chan, upsies”
“Walk.”
“Okaaaay.”
While dealing with my sister, who had completely regressed into a toddler-like state, we left the station and walked home.
It was evening, and the path was growing dim.
Though people were around, she was a bit unsteady on her feet, so she clung to my arm as we walked.
“How are you feeling?”
“Hmmmm. I feel a bit better after sleeping, so the rest of the date starts now.”
“Nope.”
“Uuuu…”
“Seriously, how did you catch a cold? It’s been so warm lately.”
“Ah… probably because after I got out of the bath yesterday, I was picking out underwear while naked, so I got a chill.”
Naked underwear selection? Crap, my imagination—hey! Don’t write that! My sister will be defiled!
“How long were you at it if you got a chill? Even in this season, if you’re naked for hours, of course you’ll catch a cold.”
“Ehhhh, but it was for my ‘winning underwear’…”
“I told you, we’re not ‘competing’!”
I’d lose even in my imagination.
“That’s why I told you to pick them for me the other day! I see… the reason I caught a cold is Onii-chan’s fault. You have to take responsibility.”
“Responsibility?”
“Yeah, take responsibility.”
“I don’t know, Shiori. The first day of summer and the summer solstice have long passed, so it’s already summer, right?”
“Hmm?”
“They say only a certain kind of person catches a cold in summer. I don’t know about taking responsibility for someone like that.”
“Uuuu—that’s mean!”
While bickering like that, we arrived home.
We entered through the front door, and I led her to her room on the second floor.
Mom is on the night shift today, and Dad… well, I don’t know if he’s here.
He’s always just spacing out in the bedroom.
“For now, change your clothes and get some sleep. I’ll bring an ice pack and medicine. Do you want anything to eat?”
“Change meee—”
Shiori held up her arms like a child.
I seriously considered actually undressing her for a second, but since I’d probably collapse right after her, I decided against it.
“Just hurry up, change, and get in bed. I’ll bring everything up now.”
“Haaaay. And I thought I was ‘almost there’…”
…Yes, you were ‘almost there.’
Feeling the presence of her starting to undress behind me even before I closed the door, I hurriedly left the room.
I returned to Shiori’s room with an ice pack, cold medicine, water, and a jelly cup from the fridge.
“Coming in.”
When I opened the door, she was obediently tucked into bed.
“Um, here’s the medicine. Ah, taking it on an empty stomach isn’t good. Want some jelly?”
“No appetite…”
She hadn’t eaten since the pancakes at lunch, and the medicine says to take after a meal. Hmmm.
“You should eat at least a little.”
I peeled the lid off the jelly and handed it to her with a spoon.
“Um, well then… ahhhh.”
Shiori sat up, faced me, opened her mouth wide, and closed her eyes.
In her pajamas, with her mouth, her tongue, and that face with closed eyes… my heart started racing.
“E-eat it yourself.”
“Ehhh? Then I don’t waaaaant it.”
Man, she’s being so selfish.
“Fine, here.”
I scooped a bite with the spoon and brought it to her mouth.
It felt a bit like feeding a bird.
Shiori took the spoon into her mouth.
“Delicious! If Onii-chan feeds me, anything is a feast.”
“Yeah, yeah. Then eat more.”
“Okay. Ahhhh.”
I managed to get her to eat the whole thing and take her medicine.
I placed the ice pack under her neck, laid her down, and pulled the covers up to her shoulders.
“Now, get some proper sleep.”
As I tried to stand up from the side of the bed, Shiori grabbed my clothes.
“Onii-chan, stay a bit longer.”
“Shiori, you won’t be able to sleep if I’m here.”
“Then I’ll sleep, so stay until I’m asleep.”
Wait, if I stay until she falls asleep but she can’t sleep because I’m here, does that mean I’m staying forever?
“Just for a little longer, then.”
I sat back down beside her.
“Hey, Onii-chan… if we’d stayed until night, it would have been beautiful, wouldn’t it?”
“Ah… yeah, probably.”
“It’s a shame. I wanted to see it with you.”
“We’ll go again.”
“Yeah… hey, Onii-chan… hold my hand.”
She was being incredibly selfish today, but it couldn’t be helped.
“Here. You’re being really spoiled today, Shiori.”
“Because… today we’re lovers, right?”
“Ah… yeah, I guess so.”
I said it. I definitely said it.
“Ehehehe. Onii-chan is… holding my hand while I sleep.”
Shiori stared at her hand in mine, and the ring we bought today.
“…I had so much fun today… I was so happy. You took me on a date… and bought me a ring.”
“Yeah.”
“Another dream came true. My dreams from when I was little… they’ve been coming true one after another lately. I’m so happy… I wonder if it’s okay. I keep saying ‘sorry’ to the ‘me’ from back then.”
“But… I’m telling her… that ‘you’ are going to be happy soon too…”
“So… Onii-chan… thank y—”
Perhaps the illness finally caught up with her; Shiori fell asleep mid-sentence.
I kissed her ring finger, right over the ring, and gently tucked her hand back under the covers.
Looking at her sleeping face one last time, I turned off the light and quietly left the room.
“Goodnight, Shiori… and thank you.”
