My Girlfriend Wanted an Open Relationship, So I Broke Up with Her and Found a Sweet Yandere - Chapter 15: Sweets
[Yuuta’s POV]
“Say, Takahashi-kun,” Akari-sensei’s voice broke through the brief silence. She seemed hesitant but curious, her eyes watching me carefully. “I saw Iroha-san from your class a few minutes ago. Was she here?”
I blinked, momentarily thrown off. “Iroha-san?” I repeated, unsure why she’d ask about her. “Uh… yeah, she was here earlier. Why?”
Akari-sensei sipped her tea slowly, her expression neutral, but I caught the faintest flicker of something in her eyes. Displeasure? Curiosity? I wasn’t sure.
“Oh, it’s nothing,” she said, waving her hand dismissively. “I just happened to see her outside and wondered if she’d stopped by. You must be close.”
I shrugged, not thinking too deeply about it. “I guess. She’s been helping me out a bit since… well, since everything happened.”
“Hmm…” Sensei nodded, though her gaze lingered on me longer than usual, making me feel slightly uncomfortable.
To break the awkward silence, I changed the subject. “Anyway, you said you had something for me?”
“Oh, right!” she exclaimed, her face lighting up as if she’d suddenly remembered. She reached for the paper bag she’d brought, pulling out a small, neatly wrapped box. “It’s nothing much, just a little treat I thought you’d like.”
I accepted the box with a polite smile, feeling a bit guilty for not having anything to offer in return. “Thanks, Sensei. You didn’t have to go out of your way.”
She waved it off, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush. “It’s no trouble at all.”
I unwrapped the small box Akari-sensei handed me, revealing a neat arrangement of wagashi, there were sweets. The delicate craftsmanship on each piece made it clear she’d gone out of her way to get something special.
And Yeah, these are my most favourite sweets to exist on the face of this planet – nothing better than this to uplift ny spirit!
“Wow,” I said, admiring the treats. “This looks amazing, Sensei. You really didn’t have to.”
She waved a hand, her cheeks faintly pink. “It’s nothing, really. Just a small gesture. I thought you might like it.”
I hesitated, feeling a little awkward. “I appreciate it. These must’ve cost you a lot of trouble.”
“It wasn’t trouble,” she replied quickly, her gaze darting to the side. “I was… thinking about you and wanted to bring something nice.”
Her words hung in the air for a moment, and I cleared my throat, trying to push past the awkward tension. “Well, thanks again. It’s been a while since I’ve had wagashi. They remind me of the ones I used to have back home.”
She smiled warmly, seemingly pleased by my reaction. “I’m glad you like them.”
An easy silence followed as we sipped our tea, but Sensei’s fingers fidgeted with the edge of her cup. It was subtle, but I could tell she had something on her mind.
“Everything okay, Sensei?” I asked, tilting my head.
She looked up quickly, her expression startled, as if I’d caught her off guard. “Oh, yes! I mean… well, it’s nothing really.”
I raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to elaborate.
“It’s just,” she began hesitantly, “I’ve been thinking about getting a PC. But I don’t know much about them, and every time I try to research, it just… overwhelms me.”
“Oh,” I said, leaning back slightly. “You’re looking to get a PC? For work?”
“Partly,” she admitted, her tone cautious. “But mostly… I thought it might be nice to have one for myself. Maybe try gaming as a way to relax after work.”
That caught me off guard. The image of Akari-sensei gaming felt completely out of place, but at the same time, I couldn’t deny that it was kind of… endearing.
“Well,” I said after a moment, scratching the back of my head, “I can help you with that if you want.”
She blinked, surprised. “Really? You’d do that?”
“Yeah,” I replied. “Consider it payback for all the help you gave me last night.”
As soon as the words left my mouth, I realized how they sounded.
Sensei’s face turned scarlet, and she looked away, fanning herself lightly. “Takahashi-kun,” she said, her voice soft but tinged with embarrassment. “You should really work on how you phrase things.”
My own cheeks burned as I stammered, “I-I didn’t mean it like that! I just… you know, you helped me when I needed it, and now I want to return the favor. That’s all.”
She giggled, covering her mouth with one hand. “I know what you meant. I just couldn’t resist teasing you a little.”
I groaned inwardly, feeling even more flustered. To distract myself, I quickly switched back to the topic of the PC. “So, uh… what kind of specs are you looking for?”
“Specs?” she repeated, tilting her head slightly.
“Right, um…” I faltered, trying to simplify. “Like, do you need something powerful for gaming, or just a basic setup for browsing and light work?”
“I don’t know,” she admitted sheepishly. “I’ve never bought one before.”
“Okay, uh…” I trailed off, my mind racing with technical jargon. “We’ll need to figure out things like the processor, RAM, storage, maybe a dedicated GPU if you’re serious about gaming, but you probably don’t need something too high-end…”
Sensei blinked at me, her expression both amused and confused.
“Sorry,” I said, laughing nervously. “That probably sounded like a foreign language.”
“A little,” she admitted, her smile softening. “But it’s reassuring to know you have this much knowledge about it.”
“Well, it’s kind of a hobby of mine,” I said, scratching my neck. “If you’re free tomorrow, we can go shopping together. I’ll help you find something that suits your needs without going overboard.”
She beamed at me, her earlier hesitation completely gone. “Thank you, Takahashi-kun. I really appreciate it.”
“No problem,” I said, feeling a little awkward under her gratitude. “Let’s plan for tomorrow afternoon. Does that work for you?”
“It’s perfect,” she said, standing up and smoothing out her skirt. “I’ll let you rest now. You’ve had a long day, and I don’t want to overstay my welcome.”
I walked her to the door, feeling a strange mix of relief and lingering embarrassment. As she stepped out, she glanced back at me, her cheeks still faintly pink.
“Take care, Takahashi-kun,” she said softly.
“I will, Sensei,” I replied, watching as she disappeared down the hallway.
—
Once I was alone again, I collapsed onto my bed, feeling the exhaustion of the day catch up to me. My mind replayed the conversation with Sensei, and I couldn’t help but smile faintly at how flustered we’d both gotten.
—
I was jolted awake by the sound of my phone vibrating on the bedside table. Groggily reaching for it, I saw Iroha-san’s name on the screen.
“Hello?” I mumbled, my voice thick with sleep.
“Takahashi-kun!” Iroha’s voice was sharp and impatient. “Where are you? I’ve been waiting at the City Square for ten minutes. Don’t tell me you forgot about our movie date.”
My heart sank as I sat up abruptly. “Crap, I—no, I didn’t forget! I’ll be there in a few minutes!”
“Good,” she said, her tone firm. “Don’t keep me waiting.”
The call ended, leaving me scrambling to get ready.
So much for getting a full rest. I threw on a jacket, grabbed my wallet and keys, and headed out the door.
