Chapter 02: Conspiring with Best Friend’s Sister

“I’ll be Senpai’s affair partner. Let’s teach those two the pain of being cheated on.”

Rinka declared firmly, gripping my hand.

It felt like the clock hands had stopped. But when time started moving again, I was struck with shock at the absurdity of her words.

“What are you saying/? Becoming someone’s affair partner, that’s just…”

“Am I saying something weird?”

“You are! Besides, there’s no benefit for you from doing that. You don’t need to play a losing role as my affair partner.”

“I’m not losing at all though.”

She tilted her head and said it with a carefree tone.

Being someone’s cheating partner, even as a student, carried a significant risk. Strange rumors could spread, potentially harming your future academic career. Moreover, being the partner of someone you don’t even like, it couldn’t possibly be enjoyable.

However, Rinka didn’t seem to think that way. She simply smiled softly.

“Because I love you, Senpai.”

“…Ha?”

“I love you, Toshiya Naeki senpai.”

“Huh, really?”

“I’m serious.”

I was hit with a shocking confession all of a sudden. 

I could only stare in astonishment and try to digest the fact.

“You didn’t realize it, Senpai.”

“Well… I mean, you didn’t act like it.”

It had been over four years since I first met Rinka, but I never noticed her feelings for me. 

I had only ever thought of her as my friend’s little sister. Therefore, it took my brain quite some time to process this new information.

“Well, I knew that Senpai liked that person. I tried to hide my feelings so you wouldn’t find out… But that’s why I can’t forgive her or my brother. I know I’m just an outsider, but I can’t stand to see you get hurt!”

She leaned forward and got closer to me. I blushed at her beautiful face in front of me. 

The story of being scouted on Takeshita street and traumatized was not an exaggeration.

I quickly averted my gaze.

“I can’t stand the thought of being hurt… Hasn’t Rinka-chan hurt me too? You always curse at me.”

“… I-I’m fine!”

“What’s that supposed to mean? It doesn’t make any sense.”

“I just wanted you to look at me, Senpai.”

She murmured softly, almost inaudibly.

But I could still hear her clearly in the small space with just the two of us. I could no longer meet her gaze.

It was the first time someone had unilaterally confessed their feelings to me. The curtain of silence fell between us.

After a while of silent atmosphere, both of us were looking down when Rinka spoke up.

“A-anyway. I will be the woman for Senpai’s affair. Let me give them the suffering you received.”

“… O-okay.”

I tried to sound energetic and agreed.

But of course, there are only uncertainties in this strategy.

“But I doubt it will work that well.”

“What do you mean?”

“Even if she witnessed me cheating, I can’t imagine her being upset about it.”

She’s the kind of girlfriend who cheats. 

Even if she witnesses me cheating on her with Rinka, I don’t think it will be a revenge for her.

“Don’t worry. She has feelings for you, senpai.”

“No, but she cheated on me.”

“Even so. No one dates someone they hate. Besides, that person is possessive. So if she sees you being affectionate with another woman, or worse, if she witnesses you cheating, I don’t think she’ll be able to stand it.”

Possessive?

I didn’t really have that image of her since we were kids. I wonder if there are things that only Rinka can see from her perspective.

Anyway, if I believe in Rinka’s words, it seems like it will be revenge on my childhood friend.

“But, I don’t think it will be revenge for him, Shin I mean.”

“Senpai, don’t forget?”

“My brother is doting on me!”

That’s right.

He loves his sister to the point where it makes people around him uncomfortable. He’s a severe Siscon.

Rinka seemed fed up with her brother’s behavior and gave off the impression that she kept her distance.

“So basically, if I get a boyfriend, it’ll be a perfect hit on my brother.”

“I see.”

Rinka tightened her grip on my hand and said, 

“If you choose me as your cheating partner, you can get revenge on both at the same time. Won’t you do it with me?”

She suggested so clearly, carrying a cute devilish smile.

When someone does something to you, the idea of doing it back to them is childish. Revenge begets more revenge, and it’s probably the right thing for me to just swallow my bitterness and let it end here.

However, Rinka is there for me, empathizing with me and even setting the stage for me. I’m not kind enough to make a decision to do nothing after all she’s done for me.

“If we’re going to do it, let’s do it seriously, Rinka-chan.”

“Yes, Senpai.”

And so, my revenge was about to begin.
