Chapter 61: The Guardian of the Dungeon
The next day.
It was Saturday. Six men and women, including Hiroyo, waited for the curtain of night to fall. They made their way to a quiet riverbank along the Tama River in Tama City.
As they walked along a deserted gravel path, an open, empty space appeared before them.
Hiroyo and the others stopped there.
Then, Asami took out an object from another dimension.
It was the “Dungeon Core.”
The black sphere was the size of a palm. Inside, waves of magical power swirled and writhed. Those who saw it could instinctively sense its immense power.
“Takanashi-senpai, here it is,” Asami said.
“Thank you,” Hiroyo replied.
Hiroyo received the “Dungeon Core” from Asami and carefully placed it in his palm.
“Shall we begin?” Hiroyo asked.
He looked at the five others, and they all nodded quietly. Hiroyo took a small breath and said softly, “Dungeon Core, activate.”
The sealed magical power was released all at once. A jet-black barrier spread around them, enveloping the six.
Before they realized it, Hiroyo and the others had been transported to a space about twenty square meters.
In the center stood a pedestal with the “Dungeon Core” resting on it. The walls were black and bare. A mysterious light poured down from the ceiling. It was a quiet space.
“This is… the Master Room…” Hiroyo said.
Hiroyo slowly approached the pedestal where the “Dungeon Core” was placed.
“There’s nothing here,” Hibiki muttered.
“We’ll build it from now on,” Koharu replied casually.
At that moment, Saori, dressed in a suit, stood beside Hiroyo.
“Hiroyo-kun activated it, but to officially register as the Master, you need to touch the core again,” Saori said.
“I understand,” Hiroyo replied.
Hiroyo nodded quietly and thought to himself, “I never imagined that I, who couldn’t enter a dungeon as an adventurer, would become the one to create a dungeon…”
Hiroyo placed his right hand on the “Dungeon Core” and declared softly, “I am Takanashi Hiroyo. Register me as the Dungeon Master.”
The next moment, a white light enveloped him. The light grew stronger, filling the entire Master Room.
When the light faded, a woman appeared.
“Who…!?” Hiroyo exclaimed.
Standing there was a beautiful girl with long blonde hair and sharp, almond-shaped eyes. She wore black garments. Her appearance was somehow fantastical, with long, pointed ears reminiscent of an elf from a story.
“First, I am the Guardian of the Dungeon Core. You are the one who will become my Master, correct?” she said.
“I’m the Master, but… a Guardian…?” Hiroyo asked.
The others couldn’t hide their surprise at the girl’s explanation.
“Please think of me as the Dungeon Core itself. I exist to assist the Master,” she said.
Saori tilted her head slightly in surprise.
“My Appraisal didn’t confirm that such a being would appear,” Saori said.
“That’s how it was… I never imagined such a being existed,” Hiroyo replied.
The Guardian’s existence was something even Appraisal couldn’t detect.
“Now, for the future, please give me a name,” the girl said.
Hiroyo looked at his companions, slightly troubled.
Kirino spoke softly, “Hiroyo-kun is the Master. So, Hiroyo-kun should decide.”
“Got it… Dungeon Core… Core… A core that looks like an elf… Ecore! How’s that?” Hiroyo said.
“Ecore… It’s a wonderful name. As expected of my Master,” Ecore replied.
It might have been a simple choice, but Hiroyo smiled, a bit embarrassed, at Ecore’s response.
“Then, Ecore, I look forward to working with you,” Hiroyo said.
“Yes. However, a ritual is required for formal Master registration,” Ecore said.
Ecore approached Hiroyo and cupped his face with both hands.
“Huh…?” Hiroyo muttered.
Then, she suddenly kissed him deeply.
“Hiroyo!?” Hibiki screamed.
As Hibiki’s cry echoed, Ecore finished the long, passionate kiss and said calmly, “Mucus ingestion complete. Master registration is now complete.”
Ecore wiped her lips. Hibiki exploded with anger.
“And that outfit!? W-Why a maid dress!?” Hibiki shouted.
At some point, Ecore had transformed, enveloped in a mist of black magical power. She now wore a classic maid dress with an open chest.
“I sensed the Master’s desires and changed into the most suitable form,” Ecore said.
“No! I don’t have that kind of desire!” Hiroyo protested.
“Hiroyo! If you’d told me, I would’ve worn one too!” Hibiki wailed.
After calming Hibiki down, Hiroyo asked about something that concerned him.
“What about the gate? Is it still open?” Hiroyo asked.
“Rest assured. I closed it now,” Ecore replied.
Ecore snapped her fingers, and the connection to the outside seemed to be severed.
“Thank you. Then, the real work starts now,” Hiroyo said.
With the dungeon guardian named Ecore, Hiroyo began the process of creating a dungeon in earnest.
The next step was designing the layers and floors.
