- My Ex-Girlfriend’s Sister Ran Away to My Room, and We Can’t Stop Making Mistakes.
- Chapter 6: It’s Cold Now.
It’s Cold Now.
Her black hair was sprawled across the sheets like a dark spiderweb. Our bodies were slick, the sweat of our shared heat clinging to our skin. I ran my tongue along the ridge of Mii’s collarbone, prompting a soft, shaky breath to escape her lips.
Her breathing gradually steadied. After one final, sharp tremor, she pulled the blanket tight around herself, concealing her nakedness.
“Well, look at that. The curry’s gone cold.”
“I told you this would happen.”
“Let’s heat it up in the microwave. I’m starving.”
Still cocooned in the blanket, she stood up with a sluggish grace and slid the bowl into the microwave.
The appliance hummed to life, the turntable beginning its slow rotation. A faint, orange glow flickered in the dim room, casting long shadows.
Without bothering with underwear, Mii pulled a T-shirt over her head. She gave her bare feet a little shake, kicked my boxers—which were crumpled on the floor—up onto the bed, and sat down.
The microwave let out a sharp ding.
“It’s ready,” she announced.
I pulled on my boxers and sat there half-naked, gripping a spoon. The pungent aroma of the spices snapped my senses awake.
“The rice has gone all crunchy.”
“It’s still good, though.”
“Yeah. I guess it’s fine for what it is.”
“Tastes… strange,” she murmured.
Eating curry in the dark felt like consuming some unfamiliar form of space rations.
“Hey.”
“Yeah?”
With the spoon still in her mouth, she answered without looking back.
“Was it really okay? With me, I mean.”
“Hm?”
“You know… the fact that I was your first.”
“Hah.”
Mii let out a short, mocking laugh through her nose.
“What are you bringing that up for now? After you’ve already gone and done it to me so many times.”
“Well, yeah, but… I just never imagined you were a virgin.”
“Would you have preferred if I wasn’t?”
“That’s not what I’m saying.”
“That’s exactly what you’re saying. You’re so unfair, Saki-nii.”
Her voice took on an edge of irritation.
“Idiot.”
“Don’t get sulky. I’m sorry.”
“I’m just exasperated. It’s fine. Being a virgin isn’t some big, life-changing thing anyway.”
Her tone was dismissive, almost reckless.
She took only two bites of the hardened curry before setting her spoon down and reaching for the lukewarm beer.
“Besides, I like you, Saki-nii. That’s why I don’t regret giving it to you.”
“That’s…”
You don’t really mean that, the words almost escaped my lips, but I bit them back.
I wasn’t in any position to say that to her. I was the one who had taken advantage of her vulnerability after she ran away and held her.
I was a beast.
Once I finished the curry, she pressed her body against mine and spoke in a hushed tone.
“Hey, when’s your next day off?”
“The day after tomorrow. Why?”
“Could you take me to buy some clothes? I don’t have anything to wear.”
She couldn’t go anywhere, she explained. All she had was her school uniform, and that made her stand out far too much. She really had left home with nothing but the clothes on her back.
“I guess I can manage that.”
“Yes! I want to go to Shibuya.”
“I don’t really know my way around Shibuya.”
“That’s fine. There are specific shops I want to go to, so you just have to come with me.”
“Count on it,” she said happily, standing up. She walked over to the sink, filled a cup with water, and gulped it down.
“Hey… are you really planning on staying here for good?”
After swallowing the water, she gave a small, firm nod.
“For a while.”
