Chapter 6: My Childhood Friend Tears Up the Letter
Classes were over for the day, and it was now after school.
Oh, by the way, I’ve talked to Mii-chan a few times since then, and everything has been normal as usual.
…Honestly, I did think about a lot of things too, you know? I mean, I can’t forget about the kiss with Mii-chan, but I decided not to overthink it or act weird about it. Yeah, just like always. I won’t worry about it, not at all.
Telling myself that, I headed to Mii-chan’s classroom like I always did.
“Mii-chan! Let’s go home!”
When I went to get her, she was still getting ready to leave.
“Ah, Hina. Just wait a second.”
Saying that, Mii-chan started packing her textbooks and other things into her bag.
“Umm… okay! All done! Let’s go!”
It seemed like she had packed everything, and Mii-chan turned toward me.
Then, we left the classroom together and walked down the hallway.
“Mii-chan, you seem really happy today.”
“Do I?”
That’s what she said, but she definitely seemed in a better mood than usual.
(What’s going on?)
(Hina’s totally aware of me. It’s so obvious she keeps looking at my lips. Aah~ I just want to push her down right now… She usually doesn’t pay attention to me at all, but in times like this, she suddenly does—she’s way too cute. What do you want to do with me, Hina? Geez!)
“Mii-chan?”
“Ah, sorry! It’s nothing!”
“Really? Well, okay then…”
I stared at Mii-chan, but she kept walking like nothing happened, lightly waving her hand.
Hmm, no matter how you look at it, something’s up… But it’s Mii-chan, so I doubt she did anything bad. Still, she probably has something on her mind because of how everything’s been going lately.
With that thought, we reached the shoe lockers. I went to mine to change into my shoes, and when I opened it…
“Huh? What’s this…?”
There was something like a letter inside my shoe locker. I took it out.
“Hina, what’s wro…ng…”
Seeing me freeze in front of my locker, Mii-chan came over. But when she saw the letter in my hand, her expression grew more and more tense.
“…You haven’t read it yet, right?”
“Uh, no.”
“Good.”
Once she knew I hadn’t read it, Mii-chan’s face softened a little. Then she took the letter from my hand, glanced inside, and ripped it up.
“Eh!? Mii-chan! What are you doing!?”
Her action was so unexpected that I panicked.
“Huh? What? I just made sure you wouldn’t read it.”
“But why…?”
“Because I looked inside, and it was just someone trying to mess with you. So I made sure you wouldn’t see it. (It was actually a love letter.)”
“Oh, I see… Th-that’s a relief…”
Since Mii-chan did it for my sake, I felt a sense of relief.
(Thanks to Hina believing me, things are fine for now… but seriously, this is pissing me off. So damn annoying! I was in such a good mood! Do they not realize whose girl they’re messing with? Hina is mine, you know? And yet! Ugh, this is infuriating. Not even brave enough to call her out directly, just a pathetic loser who can only admire her from afar. What? You’ve got some nerve trying to get close to my Hina like that. If they’d written their name, I would’ve ruined their whole life.)
Mii-chan stared at the locker where the letter had been placed, her face clearly showing anger.
“Mii-chan?”
“Hm? Ah! Don’t worry about it anymore, it’s fine!”
“R-really?”
“Yup! Anyway, let’s go home!”
Saying that, Mii-chan took my hand and started walking. I was still a little curious about her, but just like she said, I decided not to worry about it.
And so, we walked home holding hands.

Chapter 7: A Sleepover with My Childhood Friend
“Can I stay over at your place tonight, Hina?”
“Sure, but that’s kind of sudden, isn’t it?”
We had just come home from school when Mii-chan suddenly asked me that.
By the way, the reason Mii-chan often comes to my house is because she usually cooks dinner for me.
…Now that I think about it, isn’t my whole life kind of running thanks to Mii-chan?
“Well, it’s just… (That love letter earlier put me in a bad mood, and if I don’t spend time with Hina to clear my head, I won’t be able to deal with it.)”
“?”
It sounded like Mii-chan mumbled something under her breath, but I couldn’t hear it clearly, so I just let it go.
“So, you’re staying over tonight, but what about your clothes? Are you going to go home and get them? Or do you want to use mine?”
Usually, when Mii-chan stays over, she goes home once to get a change of clothes and other things she needs.
But today, she had already come to my house, so I wondered what she would do and asked her.
“Can I borrow yours, Hina?”
Mii-chan asked, looking a bit apologetic.
“Yeah, I don’t mind.”
“Thanks!”
After thanking me, Mii-chan put her bag in my room and went to change out of her uniform.
About a minute later, she came back—apparently finished changing—but…
“Huh? Why are you still in your uniform?”
I asked Mii-chan that question when she came back into the room, because she was wearing her uniform with an apron over it.
To that, Mii-chan replied:
“Well, I was about to start cooking dinner. I can’t risk getting your clothes dirty.”
“I don’t really mind though?”
“But I do.”
“Hmm, okay. Then I’ll leave it to you.”
“Yeah, leave it to me.”
After that little exchange, Mii-chan immediately started preparing dinner.
…If Mii-chan weren’t around, my meals would be a disaster. I’ve never cooked before…
While I was thinking about that, time passed, and dinner was ready.
Tonight’s menu was meat and potatoes, miso soup, and white rice. Everything was homemade by Mii-chan, and it all looked really delicious.
“Itadakimasu!”
We put our hands together and started eating dinner.
“Mmm~! Mii-chan, you really are good at cooking! It’s so tasty!”
When I said that, Mii-chan looked really happy.
After that, we chatted while eating and finished dinner in no time.
Afterwards, we took a bath and brushed our teeth, so now all that was left was to go to bed.
“What about the bath? Do you want to go first?”
I asked Mii-chan that.
“Hmm, I’ll go later. I’m not really in the mood right now.”
“Alright. Then I’ll go first, okay?”
“Yup, have fun.”
After hearing that, I grabbed my clothes and headed to the bathroom.
Once inside, I washed myself and then got into the tub.
“Fuu~”
A soft sigh escaped my lips.
(A lot happened today…)
I thought back over everything.
There was the letter in my shoe locker, Mii-chan acting weird this morning, and even though it was an accident, we ki… kissed…
Just remembering that made my chest feel all stirred up.
Mii-chan’s face getting closer, and then her lips on mine…
“…~~!!”
Nope, I can’t. Just remembering it makes me even more embarrassed.
My face is burning. My heart is noisy.
(Calm down, calm down…)
Just as I tried to take a deep breath—
Dizzy.
My vision wobbled, and my consciousness suddenly started to fade away.
Well… shit. 🫡 Good luck Hina…
