Chapter 16: Childhood Friend Takes Her Friend Away
Side: Mizuki
The next day during lunch break, I arrived at Hina’s classroom.
“Ah, Mii-chan! Over here!”
Hina, sitting by the window, noticed me and stood up, waving her hand. I raised my hand slightly and waved back.
To anyone watching, it was just a simple exchange, but to me, even this little interaction made me feel a bit happy. There’s no way I wouldn’t feel happy if the person I like noticed me and waved at me with a happy look.
But that’s beside the point. I have to figure out if Aoi is trying to steal Hina away from me. Whether she’s just some cat trying to take what’s mine.
“What’s wrong, Mii-chan?”
Hina tilted her head and asked.
“The Aoi you mentioned yesterday—where is she now? I want to talk to her for a bit.”
Before Hina could respond, a girl sitting next to her spoke up.
“I’m Aoi… What’s up?”
I looked at the girl and gave a slight bow.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Mizuki Shiraishi , Hina’s childhood friend and best friend (and future girlfriend).”
“Such a bold introduction…”
The girl muttered under her breath, clearly annoyed, but I didn’t mind. It was my self-introduction. It’s an important matter, right?
“It’s hard to talk here. Can you come with me for a bit?”
“That’s fine, but…”
Aoi answered like that.
“Hina, sorry, but can you eat your lunch first?”
“Yeah, got it.”
After giving Hina a quick heads-up, I led Aoi, or whatever her name is, out of the classroom. Once we reached a less crowded area, I turned to face her.
“Are you trying to steal Hina from me?”
I asked Aoi point-blank. Aoi’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Why would you come to that conclusion…?”
“I heard Hina say ‘I love you’ to you.”
“…Is that all?”
“That’s all.”
Aoi sighed, looking a bit exasperated.
“Hah… So, you think I’m trying to steal Hina from you just because of that?”
“…What? Are you saying that’s not true?”
I glared slightly and asked. Aoi hesitated a bit before answering.
“Well, um… no, it’s not true.”
I mentally pumped my fist. Thank goodness. If Hina really liked Aoi, I don’t know what I would have done to her.
“(I knew it… This person is a bit of a yandere. I suspected it when I heard Hina talk about her, but seeing her in person, it’s kinda scary…)”
Aoi, or whatever her name is, seemed to say something in a low voice, but I couldn’t hear it clearly, and honestly, I didn’t care.
“Okay, then.”
“Anyway, I think it’s you who likes Hina. You just haven’t realized it yet.”
Aoi said in a murmuring tone.
“…You’re not wrong.”
I muttered without thinking. Aoi was more perceptive than I thought.
“Looks like Hina really likes me… Heh…”
“Wow, seriously?”
As I unintentionally smirked, Aoi seemed a bit creeped out. But I didn’t care. My mind was completely filled with thoughts of Hina.

Chapter 17: My Childhood Friend Is Somehow in a Good Mood
During lunch break, I was eating my bento while vaguely thinking about Mii-chan and Aoi-chan. They had just been with me, but now they were gone somewhere.
It’s rare for Mii-chan to talk with someone other than me, so I was a little curious. But, I also felt like it wouldn’t be right to interfere, so I just kept eating my lunch and waited.
As I was thinking about this, I saw Mii-chan and Aoi walking back together from the entrance of the classroom.
“Hina~”
Mii-chan sat down next to me. Looking at her face, I felt something was off.
…She looks unusually cheerful.
“Mii-chan, what were you talking about with Aoi-chan?”
“Hm, just a little.”
“Just a little…?”
“Well, a lot of things?”
Mii-chan laughed lightly, covering it up as she opened her bento.
…What’s that? I’m curious.
I was about to say something, but when I looked at Aoi-chan sitting next to Mii-chan, I saw a tired look on her face.
“…Ha…”
Aoi-chan let out a small sigh before glancing between me and Mii-chan, then started eating her bento.
Mii-chan was still in a great mood, but Aoi-chan’s expression was kind of off.
…This isn’t what I expected.
I remembered how Mii-chan had seemed a bit off earlier. She’s kind and doesn’t seem like someone who would be mean, but… something about the atmosphere back then didn’t feel quite right. That made me feel a little worried. But now, this situation…
Mii-chan was oddly cheerful, and Aoi-chan had a strange look on her face.
“Aoi-chan?”
“Yeah?”
“Um, was it okay to talk with Mii-chan…?”
“Ha-ha… Well, it was okay, but…”
Aoi-chan replied with a distant look in her eyes.
“No~ Aoi-san is actually someone who gets the point pretty well~”
Mii-chan said that while smiling contently, moving her chopsticks in her bento. Seeing her like this, I was even more confused.
Earlier, Mii-chan didn’t seem to be in a very good mood. But now, why is she so cheerful?
“…Is that so?”
Aoi-chan replied with an unreadable expression.
“Yeah. Well, at first, I had to ask some things, so I didn’t think she was a good person. But after talking, I realized I misunderstood her.”
“Misunderstood?”
When I asked, Mii-chan paused and thought for a moment before lightly brushing it off.
“Well, it’s all solved now.”
…That’s bothering me.
“So, did you eat your bento properly, Hina?”
Before I could respond, Mii-chan distracted me by peeking at my bento.
“Huh? Oh, yeah. I ate it.”
“Good. You can’t leave anything, okay?”
“Don’t treat me like a child…”
I pouted a little and continued eating my bento.
But I couldn’t help it. I was still bothered.
Mii-chan was acting unusually happy, and Aoi-chan looked a bit tired. What had happened between them? What had Mii-chan talked about?
…Why does it bother me so much?
It’s not like I should mind who Mii-chan gets along with.
It’s not like I should care about what Mii-chan and Aoi-chan talked about.
But for some reason, something in my chest felt cloudy and uneasy.
