Chapter 1: Morning with My Childhood Friend
“Hey, wake up! We have school today!”
My name is Hina Shiramine, and every morning starts with this overly helpful childhood friend waking me up.
“Uuugh, just ten more minutes, please…”
“You always say that and never get up on time! Come on, get up!”
With those words, the one who yanks the blanket off me is Mizuki Shiraishi, who I’ve known since kindergarten. I call her Mii-chan.
Mii-chan takes my blanket, and I reluctantly crawl out of bed and shuffle off toward the sink.
“Breakfast is ready, so come to the living room after you wash your face.”
“Okay~”
I wash my face, fix my bed hair a little, and head to the living room where breakfast is already set on the table.
In the living room, Mii-chan is waiting for me, not having touched her food yet so we can eat together.
So I quickly sit in the chair across from Mii-chan so she doesn’t have to wait too long.
““Itadakimasu.””
We put our hands together and start eating.
Today’s breakfast includes rice, miso soup, tamagoyaki, and sausages—classic Japanese dishes.
“Mii-chan, you’re seriously good at cooking~. You’ll make a great wife.”
“I’m glad you think so, Hina. (I’m working hard to become your wife, after all.)”
“Huh? Did you say something?”
“No, it’s nothing. Oh, do you want more miso soup?”
“Yeah, please~”
Seriously, whoever ends up marrying Mii-chan is going to be so lucky. For her happiness, I’ve got to carefully check out whoever that person is!
Thinking that, I sip the miso soup Mii-chan brought over.
Yup, it’s delicious today, too!
“Thanks for the food. Mii-chan, thanks as always!”
“You’re welcome. Alright, shall we head to school?”
“Yeah!”
After finishing breakfast, we grab our school bags and head out.
“By the way, Mii-chan, you come wake me up every morning, but are you okay? You don’t have to force yourself, you know?”
On the way to school, I ask Mii-chan something I’ve been wondering about.
Someone who saw us earlier might have thought we live together, but that’s not the case. She actually comes all the way to my house just to wake me up. Is she a goddess? Probably.
But I don’t want to be a burden to Mii-chan. If it bothers her, she really doesn’t have to do it… I was thinking that, but—
“What? What? What? You need me, right, Hina? Why would you say I don’t have to come? Why why why why why why? What would you do without me? Can you eat properly? Can you wake up in the morning? Who’ll be by your side? Who’ll protect you? Come on, answer me.”
“Uh, um…”
“There’s no one who knows you better than me, right? I’m the only one who understands everything about you, right? Actually, nobody else should even try. No one else could ever understand you. You’re mine, Hina—mine and mine alone. So from now on, I’ll be the one, the only one, who wakes you up. That’s okay, right? Right? Right? Right?”
“Y-yeah…”
She spoke so fast I had no idea what she was even saying, but I nodded anyway, confused. In situations like this, nodding is probably the safest bet…
“Yay! Then I’ll wake you up again tomorrow!”
Saying that, Mii-chan beamed with a huge smile.

Our protagonist is not only dense but she seems to be a bit slow as well 😂
Thanks for the chapter!
