- Chapter 21 - Sleepover with My Former Best Friend’s Little Sister
Sleepover with My Former Best Friend’s Little Sister
My former best friend seems depressed all day today.
His face is gloomy, and he has an aura of rejecting everything around him.
Perhaps, he found out about my relationship with Rinka from my childhood friend.
Even if he didn’t, he’s likely to suspect something about it.
But I’m okay with that.
He’ll realize the mistake he has made, he should come to understand that all of this happened because of him.
After that, I’ll decide what to do with him depending on what he does.
Ideally, I just want him to distance himself from me.
After the final homeroom is over, I don’t talk with my former best friend at all and head straight to the classroom where Rinka is.
On the way, my eyes meet with someone just coming out of the second-year D class next to my class.
“Toshi-kun…”
Her voice trails off there.
It seems what happened this morning hits her hard.
She shouldn’t know about my habit of curling my thumb inside my fist when I’m lying.
So unlike Rinka, she takes my words from this morning seriously.
“……”
She quickly looks away, and I continue to head towards the classroom where Rinka is. My childhood friend lowers her gaze and doesn’t say anything more.
I arrive at the classroom where Rinika is.
First-year class B. Since homeroom just finished a little while ago, many students are still in the classroom. I push my way through the crowd, making my way to Rinka.
“Ah, Senpai!”
Before I can say anything, Rinka calls out to me.
The girls around her who seem to be her friends are staring at me curiously.
“Are you perhaps Rinrin’s boyfriend?”
Rinrin?
Ah, that’s Rinka’s nickname.
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“Well, you seem more normal than I thought. I imagined someone more handsome.”
“I-Isn’t that a bit rude?”
“How did you win her over?”
One of her friends asks so with keen interest.
She’s really pushing me here…
Rinka clings to my arm and glances at her friend.
“A-chan, you should go to an eye doctor. Senpai is really handsome.”
“Uwaa, you two are so lovey-dovey.”
“Okay, I’ll be going now. Come on, let’s go, Senpai.”
She pulls my arm and leads me outside the classroom.
The number of gazes directed at us is overwhelming.
Especially the looks of jealousy and despair from the boys are intense.
It seems that Rinka is quite popular with the guys. There are probably a lot of people in this class who are secretly interested in Rinka.
I hope I won’t have to deal with any harassment at the shoe locker tomorrow…it should be fine, right?
“What’s wrong, Senpai? You’re sweating a lot.”
“Well, I guess…you can say that I just found out who my girlfriend actually is?”
“What did you think of me until now!?”
“I have to be careful not to get cursed to death.”
“What are you even worried about!? You’re acting weird, Senpai.”
“By the way, where are we going? We just made plans for after school, but I didn’t ask where we’re going.”
“You suddenly switched back to your usual mood. I’m worried about your emotional state, Senpai.”
Rinka looks at me with a mix of astonishment and concern.
Anyway, this is just a light-hearted conversation. She’s not genuinely worried about me.
As we walk side by side, Rinka answers my question.
“Well, I’m going to be staying at your house for a while, right?”
“…you were serious about it?”
“Yes, I was! I’ve already gotten permission from my parents, so don’t worry.”
“I’m not sure about this. I’m actually surprised that your parents gave you permission.”
“Ah, my friend from earlier, A-chan, I told my parents I’d be staying at her place. They immediately give me the OK stamp.”
“That’s quite a big problem…”
Of course her parents would be okay for Rinka to stay at her female friend’s house. However, in reality, she is actually staying at her boyfriend’s house. Who knows what might happen.
“It’s fine. As long as we don’t get found out, we’re safe.”
“It’s not fine at all. I said that I’d listen to anything you have to say, but can we please not do this?”
“I’m telling you, it’s fine. Besides, I told Mama—ahem, my mother that I’ll be staying at your place.”
“That just makes me more worried. If your dad finds out, I’ll probably get killed by dad, right!?”
“Calling him ‘Dad’ already…it’s too early to be thinking about marriage, Senpai…”
(TN: In this context, the protagonist called Rinka’s father by ‘otosan’)
“Now’s not the time to be joking about that!”
“But if that’s what you want, then I’ll—”
“Do you not hear what I’m saying!?”
Rinka continues to talk on her own.
Feeling troubled by her, I let out a small sigh.
Then, Rinka squeezes my hand tightly.
Her hand is trembling slightly.
“The most important thing is that I want to be with you, Senpai…”
“…?”
“I’m scared of my brother. It feels dangerous to be at home…so, senpai, can you protect me?”
Rinka says so while looking straight at me.
I squeeze her hand back and meet her gaze.
“Yeah, I’ll definitely protect you.”
“Thank you.”
It might not be a good thing to let Rinka stay over at my place. Her dad might actually kill me if he finds out about this…
But still, I can’t just leave my frightened girlfriend alone
“So, we’ve gotten off topic, but where are we going now?”
“Well, it’s obvious, Senpai. We’re going to get my sleepover supplies!”
