The Beginning of Farewell

We are going home earlier than yesterday, the sky is still bright. Setsuna is walking me home by my side.

When I pass by Kana’s house, I don’t know if she had already gone home, but I try not to look at her room.

After walking for a while, we arrive in front of my house.

“I know you went through a lot today, so let’s not kiss. I’ll give you a hug instead. Come here”

She said so and opened her arms towards me.

I remain silent and embrace Setsuna’s arms.

Setsuna is patting me on the back as if to soothe me.

Setsuna’s kindness is very touching.

“I am very grateful for your help. Thanks to you Setsuna-san, I think I can manage to endure it somehow.”

“Yeah, don’t even think about that girl, okay? Let’s settle this as soon as possible.”

“Yes, thank you for walking me home. Please be careful on your way home.”

“I’ll see you at the station in the morning. Good night.”

“Good night.”

I stand in front of my house to watch Setsuna leaves until I can no longer see her.

Then I go inside my house.

I check my phone after I finished changing into my usual clothes in my room.

It seems that the message I sent to Kana is still unread.

I don’t want to think about Kana anymore today.

I’m afraid that she will suddenly barge in on me if the light on in my room is still on. So, I’m going to turn off the light and go directly to sleep.

When I wake up in the morning, the first thing that is on my mind is the message I sent to Kana. So I decided to check on my phone. It seems that the message I sent to her has been read, I’m relieved that I won’t have to go to school with her.

However, it seems that there is a missed call notification from Kana, but since I muted my phone last night, I didn’t notice she was calling me. I am actually worried thinking about what she was going to say, but I tell myself that I don’t know what she was thinking anyway and that it would be nothing serious, so I decided not to worry about it.

In order to avoid running into Kana on the way to school, I leave home 30 minutes earlier than usual to meet up with Setsuna.

When I arrive at the station without running into Kana on the way here, Setsuna has already arrived, waiting for me.

“Good morning, Mugi-kun. You look much better. Did you sleep well last night?”

“Good morning. Thanks to Setsuna-san, I was able to get a good night’s sleep.”

“I see, that’s great then. Let’s go now.”

“Yeah.”

Because it is really crowded in the morning, Setsuna and I don’t hold hands.

Then on our way to school, I told Setsuna that the message I sent to Kana is marked as read, I also told her that I received a missed call in the middle of the night, but because I muted my phone last night before I went to sleep, I didn’t talk to her.

“Well, I still don’t understand what that girl is thinking, so let’s see how she acts today. I know it might be hard in the classroom, but please bear with it somehow.”

“Yes, I’m sorry for worrying you so much.”

“It’s perfectly normal to worry about your lover, right? Don’t worry about it.”

Listening to Setsuna’s soothing words, my memories of me and Kana are quickly fading.
