- Chapter 8.2: Ambitions Beyond Heroism
Damn it. I cursed inwardly. This situation was spiraling out of control, and Maximus’s present state of mind was only making it more complicated.
I should just change some circuit of his brain already.
… Calm down — Calm down… Once he get’s terminated from his bondage of being a hero mentor, I can come to him as a savior. Yeah, let’s I can do that.
“Let go of me!” I struggled to break free from Maximus’s grip for now. Interestingly, even the so-called real hero, Dylan joined to my effort.
The whole scene was becoming a farcical spectacle.
Wait… Is he crying!? Uwaa, I don’t want to see a muscular man shed tear in my entire life. I feel tainted.
But damn it. How to even get rid of this hold!?
“No… I won’t let go,” Maximus was stubbornly clung to me.
“AHHH FOR REAL JUS—-“
Unknown to me, he took the opportunity of my free spirit to take out some sort of a shiny emblem infused with some dangerous magic. And with an unwavering precision, he pressed it onto my exposed arm.
“That hurt! … What … Eh? What’s this.”
I asked, completely bewildered by the turn of events completely out of my plans and thoughts.
“It’s a hero insignia,” Maximus replied, with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
I scratch it, be it doesn’t come out. I try to pull it, but somehow even my flesh … No I think it has attached itself magically to my spine.
I was completely paralyzed.
On the other hand, Dylan, as always, quick to share his thoughts, chimed in. “If you had that emblem all along, why didn’t you just give it to me when I lost mine?”
Maximus’s face contorted in anger as he yelled at Dylan. “You sold your insignia, fool!”
“I…” Dylan attempted to retort, but Maximus’s outburst left him speechless.
“Oh, how satisfying it is to curse him now that I have a real hero,” Maximus muttered under his breath.
“…”
“So from now on, this guy, Zepyrath will be joining into my mentor-ship for being a hero.”
“What about me? Don’t tell me you will take back on your word you gave me. No mentor is allowed to do that.”
“Fool, that only applies if you still have your hero insignia. Go get that back first! So Zephyrath… Zephyrath?”
“…”
“Hey!”
“…”
Tell me this is a dream.
“Zephyrath? Are you listening?”
Please, if this is a dream, wake me up from this dream already.
“Well, Zephyrath, you want it or not, you’re now a hero. And as a hero, you are bound to a mentor, that is me. This was always your fate. Seeing how even the insignia accepted you as it’s Lord so readily.”
Why…. Was my desire, my ambition to become a demon king that weak?
“Maximus, he’s definitely not a hero. Open your eyes already.”
“Yeah, I really am not,” I replied confirming to Dylan, as if in a trance.
Honestly, I couldn’t care less about his envy or the Maxi-whatever’s wants. All I thinking right now was how to get rid of this cursed insignia that was now trying to attach itself to my very being, not limiting to the bone.
Really, what did I get myself into. This f**kery.
“But still, I never thought you were so compatible to that hero insignia. I feel blessed for my actions. As a mentor, I will guide you to be one among the best hero of all time. Your family will be proud of you.”
Sure they will be…
“Just be careful. The insignia adapts and attaches to how true you are to your inner self. If you lie to yourself, it may come off.”
“…?!”
In a lightening speed, my head turned towards this max… Maxi…what was his name again, yeah, something maxmillian guy.
“Wh..what happened?”
“Thank you very much for granting me the opportunity to become the hero, hero mentor Maxmillian!”
*kachin
“It’s Maximus… It seems like you’ve —-“
“Well, since it seems that you’ve already had your little chat with your new hero. Now, we must proceed with his final assessment,” Julia announced, appearing with Jana in tow.
“Yeah, let’s get on with it, I will show you, I am the real hero.” I said haughtily, having them surprised by my change of attitude all of a sudden.
*Kachin
I didn’t fail to see, the very slight change this emblem was going through, distorting little by little, sometimes disappearing a bit, while sometimes reappearing a bit of that disappeared bit.
While sometimes, also giving out a cute ominous aura.
Maybe it’s resisting my pressure and tactics trying it’s best to get attached to my soul?
Well struggle and try hard, as much you want.
As if a measly insignia can disturb my ambition.
It will be either you disappear completely.
Or forced to contort/change according to my desires.
kekekek.
Even though my plans are a bit delayed, but I guess it’s inevitable for my path.
For when you are true to your desires, a path will open up. My Grandmother always said.
I can already feel. Yes, the memories … Which fueled me …
My Grandmother, My close Old man’s wife.
And my Old man.
(“NOOO Please not anym—— uhn…. Hehehehehhehhihihihihihihihi uhuhuhuhu. ooooh”)
Hmmm?
(“~iya … Iya… ~iyaaaaaa.”)
Nnn????
(“hwaaah … Hwaah. Shwero shwama?”)
*jerk
It was like an electric bolt running to the top of my spine.
——Wh—what was with that …memory…
…………….——A premonition.
