- Chapter 10 part 1 (Inadvertently)
Inadvertently
The time has already passed the peak.
On the way back in the taxi, my sister and I were just looking out the window without talking.
We started work this evening and recorded three episodes in a row.
Therefore, not only me, but my little sister also had signs of fatigue on her face.
I was in a daze, remembering what happened during the day.
My little sister’s words, “I don’t mind”. It was as if she wanted it to be that way.
Is it because I’m too conscious of my little sister that I misunderstood this?
……..I don’t think I’m going to be able to make a calm decision right now.
When my sister tried to kiss me in the past, I gave her a clear rejection.
I want to be your good older brother—that desire has not changed.
Since then, my little sister has never crossed the line, even if she has said or done things that I think are a little too much.
I understood that my sister gave up out of respect for my feelings.
And now I’m the one who’s shaken up, which is pathetic.
“Kosuke-san.”
While I was lamenting in my heart over my own pettiness, my sister called out to me.
There was a driver in the cab, so now our relationship was that of a celebrity and her manager.
“What’s wrong? Saki-san.”
“I’m tired today.”
“That’s right. A new drama will start soon, so we’ll be busier than usual at this time of the year with the promotional activities.”
“I wish I could take a vacation, somewhere.”
“……Do you have any plans?”
Managing the talent’s schedule was a manager’s most important job.
If they ask for time off, the manager must make the time to take it, no matter how busy they are.
I was a little upset when she suddenly asked me for a vacation.
Since I spend most of my personal time with my sister, I thought I had a general idea of when she wanted time off, but this time it was completely unexpected.
Thinking back, I’ve been with my sister for a long time, but lately I feel like I spend more time by her side as her manager.
In other words, I feel like I spend less time being her older brother.
Before you know it, pretending to be someone else—a manager—becomes no longer pretending.
I can’t let this go on.
I changed my mind to face my sister more as an older brother.
Is there somewhere you want to go for fun?
Do you want to go buy something you want?
Making predictions about my sister’s private life, I waited for her reply.
And the answer I got back was far beyond my expectations.
“—moving, I’m thinking of doing that.”
“M-Moving?!”
“You’re talking too loud.”
“Aa….I’m sorry.”
I couldn’t help but shout.
Perhaps because of my sudden loud voice, the driver was looking at us through the mirror.
“Anyway, we’ll be there soon, so we’ll talk about the details later…”
For the time being, we have to get out of the car, and continue talking in a place without a third party.
I directed him to the nearest convenience store from my house and asked him to drop us off there.
When we arrived at our destination, we bought drinks and snacks at the convenience store.
Then, leaving the convenience store, we began the short walk home.
“…….”
“…huh? Um, Saki?”
My sister was walking around and took out some fried chicken she bought at the convenience store.
I was expecting her to tell me why and when she was moving, so I could not understand her behavior as she started to chomp on a piece of fried chicken without saying a word.
“What’s wrong Kosuke-san?”
“No, not what’s wrong, but …… also you can address me as usual now. You can’t keep pretending to be someone else forever, you’ll lose it.
“Oh, this is inadvertent. So, what’s up?”
“Reason! What’s the reason! Reason!”
“…..are you hungry? Nii-san, would you like some too?”
Saying that, my sister suddenly brought the half-eaten fried chicken to my mouth.
“Not that! It’s about moving!”
“It was a joke, Nii-san.”
“………after all, give me fried chicken.”
As a small protest against being ridiculed, I snatched a piece of my sister’s fried chicken.
“Aah, that’s mean. I’ll take a bite of this then.”
With that said, my sister took my plastic bottle and took a sip from it without hesitation.
“O-Oi, that’s the half-drunken one…..”
“Gulp, gulp~ phew. It doesn’t matter. We’re brother and sister.”
“……”
“Fufu. Moving, was it? I was thinking of renting a room near the school.”
“Huh? You hardly ever go to school. Besides, even high school is within easy commuting distance from our house.”
“Was it not Nii-san the one who said to go when I can?”
“Well, that’s true, but…..”
“I thought maybe I would be more inclined to go if it was a little closer.”
“What’s up with you all of a sudden? But, it’s not that I’m against you moving out.”
“……Atonement, I guess. Atonement for Nii-san who couldn’t make it through high school. So I thought I’d go as far as I could.”
Atonement, huh.
I’m pretty sure I gave up high school for my sister.
If you asked me if I didn’t hold a grudge against my sister at the time, there was some part of me that could not deny it.
But I have no complaints or regrets about the way I live now.
The days are rather fulfilling.
So I was surprised and at the same time apologetic that my sister thought that way.
