Me who was the Older Brother, and the Girl who was my little sister. - Chapter 1 part 1
Chapter 1
Don’t sc**w with me
We were kids who had a reputation in the neighborhood.
The older brother, Kousuke Yanagawa, and his younger sister, Saki Yanagawa.
We were always playing in the park together, and we were kids who had a reputation for being friendly and energetic with people on the street.
……To be honest, there was a mistake in what I said earlier.
To correct that mistake, it wasn’t ‘us’ but ‘my little sister’ who was the ‘child of reputation.’ My little sister had a clear face and a cuteness that set her apart from so-called ‘ordinary children.’
If I had to describe it in the easiest way possible, it’s the kind of thing when you look at a childhood photo of a beautiful, famous actress, or idol, it’s obvious that she would stand out in the photo.
Anyway, my sister started to show glimpses of this when she was two years old and became famous in the neighborhood.
『She is definitely going to be a beauty.』
『You’ll be on TV in the future, won’t you? Maybe I should get your autograph while I still can.』
At first, my parents thought they were just flattery and were being humble, but as my sister grew up, they decided to apply for a job as a child actor at an entertainment agency to see if she could get in.
She then successfully joined an entertainment agency and became a popular child actor with exposure in many media, including commercials for well-known companies and morning dramas.
Our parents were greatly pleased. Mother was delighted that her daughter is her pride and joy, and the father was smitten with the idea that his daughter is the prettiest.
It wasn’t just my parents. The adults in the neighborhood were also proud to be in the same area as the local star.
Naturally, as an older brother, I was also happy about my little sister’s success. It would be a lie to say that there was not some jealousy or inferiority complex, but since we were so close as siblings, we never made it explicit.
Eventually, when my little sister turned six and entered elementary school. I saw a slight change in her.
My sister has always been a girl who laughed a lot.
She looked happy and joyful.
That little sister, began to laugh in an odd way. Emotionless, empty, dry laughter.
The reason I realized that was because of the special bond between siblings—or not. The reason was that when I started elementary school my sister’s entertainment activities overlapped with each other as she became more popular, and I rarely had any conversations with her.
That’s probably why. The parents and the adults at the entertainment agency, who were always nearby to support my little sister, failed to notice the slightest change.
I was afraid that I was the only one who had noticed this change, so I talked to my parents about it.
“Lately, Saki has been acting strange.”
“Nn? Is that right? There’s nothing wrong.”
“What happened all of a sudden? Maybe you can’t leave your little sister alone? Hahaha.”
“She’s laughing in an odd way. It’s like it’s fake….… And she calls me ‘Nii-san’ like she’s talking to a stranger!”
“It’s not strange at all. In fact, she’s smiling even cuter than before. Saki’s growing up, so you should also grow up as an older brother too, Kousuke.”
“Your mother is right! Saki is now in elementary school, and she’s probably just embarrassed to call you ‘Nii-tan’ like she used to.”
“D*me it! Grown ups never get it !”
“Oh, that’s a pretty emotional line. Are you aiming to make your debut as a celebrity too? Just kidding, hahaha!”
No matter how desperately I pleaded, they wouldn’t take me seriously. A sense of futility, as if I were just throwing a tantrum.
But, I didn’t have any proof either. Maybe my parents were right and my sister is just growing up.
Just as I was about to convince myself of this, I heard the front door unlock.
Gacha…..Gacha……Gacha
The time was already 18:00 in the evening. It was time for my sister to come home from her performing arts lessons.
“I’m back.”
“Welcome back~! Good job working hard today too.”
“Saki! Good girl! You’re such a good girl!”
In contrast to my sister’s tasteless “I’m home”, my parents greeted her with enthusiasm like passionate fans.
When it comes to Dad, it’s hard to tell what’s so good about him. He was all lovey-dovey with a relaxed face and was just patting my little sister’s head.
As I was slightly taken aback by my parents’ eccentric response, my sister turned to me and again said the same words, “I’m home.”
“I’m home. Nii-san.”
“……Wel. Welcome back, Saki.”
After finishing the short communication, my little sister took a shower in the bathroom and changed in her own room. And only when she returned from her room could our family have dinner.
This was our family’s routine.
─As if, my little sister was the center of our family.
While eating dinner and watching TV, a variety show featuring my sister had started. A popular comedian host spoke in praise of my little sister.
“Saki-chan, you’re really cute. Aren’t you currently the best child actor? The last time when we were together on a different show, the scary adult influential figures were all lovey-dovey.”
『You’re a scary big man too!』
『Hahaha』
“Kyaa! You’re the best! The best! Saki is the best!”
“Yes! Yes!! That’s our girl! That’s our girl!”
“Shut up while you’re eating, you stupid parents.”
“What is it一 Kousuke. Saki-chan’s being complimented!”
“…….”
I watched out for my excited parents. My sister was eating in silence. On TV, it was finally the scene of my sister talking.
『Hehehe, thank you very much! You’ve all been very kind to me.』
『Look, look, this is it. How can you speak this well at your age? I still couldn’t speak Japanese when I was 6 years old.』
『How many of you are there!』
『Hehehe』
『The way you laugh is so elegant! What a cute smile.』
The people on TV raved about my little sister. The little sister I saw there was certainly well-spoken compared to the girls in my class, and her smile was clearly cute.
Suddenly, I compared my sister on TV with the one sitting across from me.
You’re somewhat expressionless, you know.
I didn’t say it out loud. My parents were still glued to my little sister on TV. The little sister in front of me silently took a small bite of the food that was on the table.
I decided to eat in silence, learning from my sister not to upset this eerie balance.
After dinner, family time was spent and bedtime arrived. My sister’s room was on the second floor, next to mine. My parents’ was downstairs in their bedroom.
We both headed for the stairs to the second floor. On the way there, my sister spoke to me in the hallway, which was unusual.
“Nii-san”
