Chapter 6 he Demon King and the Hero Help Hikaru
Whispering an incantation, I ran towards Hikaru and Kimijima-sensei.
Kimijima-sensei let out a startled cry. “What are you doing!? Are you willing to harm this child!?”
There was no other way. I activated magic directed at Kimijima-sensei’s face.
“Light Illumination!”
It wasn’t an offensive spell. Using such magic could potentially harm Hikaru as well. Instead, it was a simple illumination spell, emitting light similar to a fluorescent lamp or incandescent bulb.
Even so, if I directed it directly at her face, it would be enough to dazzle her.
In this dimly lit room, it would have an even greater effect.
As expected, Kimijima-sensei stumbled, but still glared at me, holding the knife.
“Demon Lord!”
…In other words, she had moved the knife away from Hikaru’s neck.
I forcefully threw myself at Kimijima-sensei.
“Ugh!”
Kimijima-sensei groaned and staggered, almost falling.
The knife wasn’t lodged anywhere in my body. In fact, it had fallen to the ground and rolled away.
“I’m sorry, Sensei!”
I kicked the back of Kimijima-sensei’s knees.
Even with the strength of a grade schooler, it was enough to make Kimijima-sensei tumble.
As expected, neither Kimijima-sensei nor the Marionear knew anything about martial arts.
Without a hostage, there was no element for her to win against me.
As I pinned Kimijima-sensei down on the ground, I shouted.
“Isumi! Retrieve the knife and cut the rope around Hikaru!!”
But Isumi didn’t move. She seemed to be muttering something in remorse or frustration.
Really, this girl!!
“Isumi, you can think later! Focus only on helping Hikaru!”
Upon hearing those words, Isumi looked up with a determined expression.
She then picked up the knife and rushed towards Hikaru, who was bound to the chair.
Meanwhile, Kimijima-sensei, who was pinned down on the ground, spoke to me with bitterness.
“You don’t care about your sister’s life, huh? Truly fitting for a Demon Lord.”
“You knew you wouldn’t hurt Hikaru.”
“Why would you think that?”
“You like children, don’t you?”
“What do you mean!?”
“Not just Eleanor. I’ve observed you for half a year as your homeroom teacher. You genuinely cared for everyone in the class. You were kind. It wasn’t an act. Someone like you would never hurt Hikaru.”
“You’re being awfully sentimental!”
Indeed, that’s true.
The previous me――the Demon Lord version of myself――might not have thought this way.
Coming to this world, I might have unintentionally succumbed to peace.
“In reality, you didn’t hurt Hikaru, did you?”
“That’s true… I was reborn by a God to seek revenge against the Hero and the Demon Lord… but it seems I couldn’t become a true villain after all.”
As Kimijima-sensei said this, tears flowed from her eyes.
“I’m frustrated, but strangely relieved as well,” she said in her usual gentle tone.
“It’s natural. Feeling relieved that you didn’t harm Hikaru is more significant,” I replied.
During my time as the Demon Lord, I had no hesitation in killing enemies if necessary. Of course, that was justified by the noble cause of protecting my subjects.
However, during these past six months of living a peaceful life as an elementary school student, I’ve come to realize something.
Casually taking someone’s life is not ‘normal.’
Fighting to protect oneself and one’s family is not wrong.
But now, I couldn’t bring myself to kill Kimijima-sensei to save Hikaru.
The reason I refrained from using attack magic wasn’t just for Hikaru’s sake.
“Is this resolved now?” Isumi spoke from behind me.
As I turned around, isumi had already cut the ropes that bound Hikaru and gently embraced her younger sister.
“How is Hikaru?”
I asked Isumi, but before she could respond, Kimijima-sensei answered.
“She’s fine. Hikaru-chan is just sleeping. She probably won’t even remember being kidnapped when she wakes up.”
“I see.”
Not only her physical state but her emotional well-being too. If that’s the case, it’s good.
I moved away from Kimijima-sensei.
“What’s your intention?”
“Just as it seems, we only came to rescue Hikaru.”
In response to my words, Kimijima-sensei looked surprised.
“Will you forgive me?”
“Well, Hikaru is safe, so I won’t stop you from turning yourself in to the police if that’s what you choose.”
Isumi sighed in exasperation.
“You’ve become quite soft, Lord Demon Lord.”
“That may be true, but we’re not the police, so we can’t make an arrest. Besides, if we were to kill you, it would be troublesome. And also… If something were to happen to Kimijima-sensei, our friends would be sad, right?”
Kimijima-sensei chuckled. Her face no longer showed any hostility.
“Truly, you’ve gone beyond being kind and turned into a sweetheart. It’s hard to believe you were the Demon Lord.”
“Well, I’m not the Demon Lord anymore; I’m just an elementary school student.”
“I see… In that case, as your homeroom teacher, I’ll give you a lesson on society.”
“Oh? What’s that?”
“In this country’s law, even individuals who are not part of the police have the power to make an arrest in flagrante delicto.”
That was news to me. I chuckled wryly.
“I’ve learned something new. Thanks, Sensei.”
After that, I asked her another question.
“By the way, could you tell me a few more things?”
“What is it?”
“The god who reincarnated you, is it the Creator God Zekar?”
“Yes.”
“Did you die in the other world too?”
“That’s right. After Eleanor didn’t return, I panicked and threw himself off a cliff near the village. Then, in the white world, the Creator God Zekar appeared and told me that the hero and the Demon King were living happily in a peaceful world, enjoying their second lives. When I heard that, I felt inexplicably frustrated… Zekar must have sensed my feelings, and that’s probably why he offered to reincarnate me as your homeroom teacher. The rest was up to me.”
That manipulative Creator God!
Once again, it seems we were just toys in the palm of his hand.
Hmm? In that case…
“When did Sensei get reincarnated in this world?”
“It was in January, if I remember correctly.”
So, that means until then, our homeroom teacher was the real Kimijima-sensei.
“What happened to the real Kimijima-sensei? Did she pass away too?”
“No. Ah, I see. The original owner of your bodies has passed away. I heard she was hospitalized due to a traffic accident in September. That must have been it.”
“Yeah, that’s right. So, is it different for you, Teacher?”
“Yes, it’s a bit complicated… but I am also the real Kimijima-sensei.”
Up until now, Isumi had been listening silently, but she couldn’t help interjecting, “What do you mean?”
It’s true, it may be hard to grasp…
“…Could it be that both Kimijima-sensei and Marionear’s memories are present in you?”
“Yes. And to put it simply, my personality is an integration of both of theirs.”
It’s quite hard to imagine.
“Did Kimijima-sensei’s personality also agree to kidnapping Hikaru?”
“Well… it’s a complicated situation, but… fine, I’ll explain. Kimijima-sensei also had a daughter who was an elementary school student.”
Saying that, Kimijima-sensei began to share the story of Kimijima Haru and Marionear, the stories of two mothers.
