Chapter 2 The Demon King and the Hero head out to rescue their sister.
I say to Isumi,
“First of all, it’s evident that the sender of this message is someone from the other world. They must be familiar with the circumstances there.”
“I already know that!”
Hm, she seems quite agitated. Well, it’s only natural given that her sister has been taken.
“That’s why I keep telling you to calm down. How many times do I have to say it?”
“Why should I stay calm in this situation? Hikaru…”
“Staying calm is the first step to rescuing Hikaru. Letting our emotions run wild will only hinder us.”
“Ugh, I’m sorry.”
She seems to have cooled down a bit.
“Because of your rash behavior, you tend to overreact. It’s a bad habit of yours.”
“I see… I apologize.”
Once she seems a bit more composed, I continue.
“The kidnapper is aware of both of our true identities,” I explain.
It’s only natural, considering they sent the message addressed to Hero Shirene and Demon Lord Benes through this mirror.
“And it seems they can use communication magic at the very least,” Isumi remarks.
Well, that much is apparent.
“Furthermore, the kidnapper doesn’t seem to be trying to hide it.”
“True, but what does that mean?”
“In essence, this abduction isn’t for monetary gain or anything like that. It’s more likely an action taken to summon us – Hero and Demon Lord,” I state.
“Was Hikaru used for that purpose!?”
Isumi looks frustrated.
“That’s a possibility. But considering that, it raises another question,” I continue.
“What’s that?”
“If their only intention is to call us out, there’s no need to kidnap Hikaru.”
“Mm, you’re right.”
If they are aware of our identities and simply want to summon us, they could have easily approached us after school. Even if they wanted to take us to the abandoned factory, there are countless other methods without resorting to kidnapping.
For instance, if they were to say, “We’ll tell you how to return to your original world,” suspicious as it may be, both Isumi and I might have followed them. Especially if they knew about our reincarnations, we wouldn’t be able to ignore such a proposition.
“But what does that matter?”
“Presumably, the sender of this message holds some grudge against either me, you, or perhaps both of us,” I explained.
“A grudge? Against the Hero and the Demon Lord. That’s what the strong message implies,” I clarified.
“A grudge against us… and that’s the motive behind Hikaru’s…?”
Isumi’s hands clenched tightly, her expression filled with frustration.
“If they hold a grudge against me, why not attack me instead!! Hikaru has nothing to do with it!” she exclaimed.
“I can’t answer that. Regardless, our course of action remains the same,” I said.
“What do you mean?”
“Of course, it means we have to head to the designated location,” I stated.
“But what if it’s a trap? We’re just elementary school students now. I doubt we can handle this on our own,” Isumi questioned.
“So what? Hikaru has been abducted,” I responded firmly.
“True, you’re right.”
At this moment, we have no power as the Demon Lord and Hero.
But so what?
That doesn’t change the fact that we must rescue Hikaru!
We both descended to the first floor and informed Akari, “We’ll search the neighborhood again.”
“Wait a moment.”
“It’s alright. Mom is at home.”
I smiled reassuringly.
“It’s okay, don’t worry. We will definitely save Hikaru.”
So please, don’t worry.
Isumi and I headed towards the abandoned factory on the outskirts of town.
Hikaru, we will rescue you, no matter what.
We might not be the real Kageyo and Isumi, but Hikaru is undoubtedly Akari and Hikaru’s daughter.
We will surely bring her back to this home.
Even if something happens to us!!
Standing in front of the abandoned factory, Isumi asked me, “Is this the place?”
“Yeah, the address in the message points here. There’s no doubt about it.”
I wondered what kind of factory it used to be.
In any case, it had been closed down over a decade ago.
The gate at the entrance was rusty, but the two of us managed to push it open.
“Be careful. We don’t know where traps might be.”
“Yeah. I wish we could use the Detection Magic ‘Vision.'”
In this emergency, it’s about time I let her know.
“I can use it.”
“What? But in this world, magic isn’t possible.”
“You can use magic in this world too.”
Isumi’s expression was full of surprise.
“Don’t be silly. On the first day of our reincarnation…”
“Well, I might not be able to cast the massive explosion spell ‘Ibera Bombgarba.’ A primary school student wouldn’t have that much magical power. But ‘Lighting Radiance’ has been activated. I’ve already experimented with it. I’ve also used ‘Detection Magic – Vision’ a few times during the day.”
Isumi’s face showed amazement.
“Then why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
“It wasn’t the right time for that. Just try using it now.”
“Alright…”
Mumbling the incantation, Isumi activated ‘Detection Magic – Vision.’
“How is it?”
“It’s not as accurate as before, but I sense something at the back of that building.”
“Good job. If there’s a reaction inside the abandoned factory, it’s likely to be Hikaru”
“However, what’s going on?”
“I’m sorry for not telling you. But it’s hard to disclose that magic can be used by someone who, inside a hospital, suddenly cast the massive explosion spell, ‘Ibera Bombgarba.'”
As I tried to explain, Isumi shook her head and said, “No, that’s not it.”
“What do you mean?”
“Next to Hikaru, there’s another reaction.”
“The kidnapper?”
“It’s possible, but ‘Detection Magic – Vision’ doesn’t react to anyone other than acquaintances.”
Indeed, that’s true.
Is the kidnapper someone we know, at least someone Isumi knows? Or was it just a random passerby?
Either way, we now know Hikaru’s location.
Isumi said with concern, “Is Hikaru okay?”
“Detection Magic – Vision shouldn’t react to the deceased.”
“That’s true, but…”
“Then Hikaru is alive. Let’s go and rescue her.”
“Yes, you’re right. We’ll definitely save Hikaru and bring her back home.”
We nodded at each other and continued toward the building where Hikaru seemed to be held captive.
