Chapter 11 The Demon King and the Hero Confront the Homeroom Teacher & Vice Principal
When the principal appeared, both the Vice Principal and Tanaka-sensei were visibly flustered.
Tanaka-sensei hurriedly tried to hide the ruler behind his back, but it was too late. There was no way to conceal the fact that he had been waving the ruler around, chasing after me.
“This, uh… Well, you see…”
Trying to come up with an excuse, Tanaka-sensei struggled to find the right words.
The principal pressed on, “It certainly seems like you were using corporal punishment on a student.”
“W-Well, you see…”
Tanaka-sensei was sweating profusely. Seeing that, the Vice Principal spoke up.
“Well, that’s right, Tanaka-sensei. The principal is absolutely correct. It’s unacceptable to wield a ruler and chase after a student like that.”
Wow, what a swift change of attitude. I’ve seen such pathetic transformations even in the Demon King’s army. Those underlings who act all high and mighty towards their subordinates but become fawning lackeys when I, the Demon King, appear. I demoted them without a second thought.
“I-I mean… Vice Principal, I…”
“Silence! Don’t say another word!”
“This is outrageous! Are you going to cut off the lizard’s tail or something?”
“Enough of your noise!”
It’s truly a ridiculous adult squabble. It’s enough to make me sigh in exasperation.
The principal asked me, “You’re Kageyo Kamiya, right? Are you okay? Any injuries?”
“I’m fine, no injuries.”
“Well, that’s good to hear. Can someone explain what exactly happened here?”
Tanaka-sensei is babbling incoherently, and I have no interest in listening to the Vice Principal’s feeble excuses. However, letting Isumi, who tends to resort to violence, do the talking won’t lead to a favorable outcome either.
I suppose I should be the one to explain.
“Well, yes…”
I told the principal everything.
About the bullying Kageyo endured from Sasakura before the accident.
About how Tanaka-sensei treated him.
And about the events of this morning.
The principal glared at Tanaka-sensei.
“I see. Tanaka-sensei, do you have any defense for yourself?”
“W-Well… of course I do! These twins are troublemakers in our class! They’re just trying to set a trap for both Sasakura-kun and me.”
Well, he has no choice but to make such a claim.
I have no interest in hearing the excuses of a teacher like him, but if I interrupt forcibly, it might seem like I’m hiding something. I might as well let him speak his piece.
“First of all, there’s no way Sasakura-kun would engage in bullying. He’s the Vice Principal’s nephew and a highly capable student. He’s the pride of our class.”
Cheap pride, I must say.
“True, I might have gone too far earlier, but these twins assaulted me as well. They kicked me in the stomach, and they even attempted to attack the Vice Principal.”
Ah, that part is indeed true.
Isumi has a bad habit of resorting to violence before her words.
Isumi snorted, “Hmph.”
“They started hurling abusive language at us!”
“You see, they don’t deny the violence. I simply provided them with educational guidance, these delinquent twins.”
Well, I must admit Isumi does need some educational guidance.
I’ll give her that.
But that doesn’t mean I recognize him as qualified to provide it.
In any case, if I let Isumi talk any further, it might lead to more complications.
I’ll take over and continue from here.
“Well, it’s true that Isumi has her issues. However, I forgot to mention earlier that Tanaka-sensei and the Vice Principal were mocking us, saying things like ‘If you had died in that accident, it would have been better.’ While I don’t condone violence, it’s no wonder Isumi got angry.”
The principal nodded, “I see.”
“If that’s the case, then I must say their remarks are more deserving of a punch from me than anything else.”
This time, it was the Vice Principal who became flustered.
“Principal, there’s no way I would say such things! Unfortunately, these students seem to be delinquents who can easily lie. It’s no wonder Tanaka-sensei is upset. They’re tarnishing the reputation of teachers and even trying to portray my nephew as a malicious bully. It’s outrageous!”
Hmm.
It’s true that there’s no concrete evidence… Should I show them Kageyo’s diary?
No, I could easily fabricate something like that.
Now, what should I do?
Once, I was called the Demon King, but I consider myself somewhat of a pacifist.
I don’t want to resort to violence like Isumi.
Besides, that would only make me look bad.
I guess I’ll have to refute their claims.
It’s a bit bothersome, but in a verbal altercation, I should be more than capable of winning against these two.
Fortunately, it seems the principal is a fair and impartial person who will listen to both the students and the teachers equally.
I speak in a calm and composed tone, being conscious of the situation. In times like this, raising my voice or becoming emotional would be counterproductive to gaining trust. Instead, I should maintain a level-headed approach to earn their trust.
“Who is actually lying here? What Tanaka-sensei and Sasakura-kun have done to me, the rest of the class has witnessed it too.”
My words make Tanaka-sensei smirk confidently.
“I see. Then let’s hear from the other students. That way, we’ll find out who is telling the truth.”
He seems overly confident.
But come to think of it, it’s only natural.
The other students fear Sasakura and the teacher.
Moreover, many of them have been involved in bullying Kageyo.
Tanaka-sensei doesn’t expect any of our classmates to speak the truth.
“You’ll find out soon enough that these twins are nothing but lying troublemakers.”
Hmm.
I might have been a bit careless.
Listening to our classmates’ accounts may not work in our favor.
In that case…
…And just as I was considering my next move, Sora raised her voice, exclaiming, “Liar!!”
Tanaka-sensei grinned, looking at Sora.
“That’s right, right, Aoi-kun? These twins are liars, aren’t they?”
“No!”
“What?”
“The liar here is Tanaka-sensei!”
Sora pointed her finger at Tanaka-sensei and said defiantly.
