Chapter 10 The Demon King and the Hero, Summoned to the Staff Room
Tanaka-sensei, who had taken Sasakura to the infirmary, returned after about ten minutes. Then, he started scolding me and Isumi.
“Isumi Kamiya and Kageyo, come to the staff room together!”
Hmm, I wonder why he’s saying this now, considering he used to ignore me, well, Kageyo, that is. Oh well, I guess it’s fine. Let’s just go along with it.
I nodded.
“Understood. Isumi, let’s go.”
“Well, but…”
“It’s not like we’re going to a cave where a dragon lives or anything, right?”
“Well, I guess not…”
Isumi said that, looking worried about me.
“Kageyo-kun, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.”
I gave Sora a reassuring smile, and he nodded in response.
Tanaka-sensei addressed the other students, saying, “First period is self-study. Maruki, as the class representative, make sure the other students are studying properly.”
“Understood.”
After confirming Maruki’s acknowledgement, Tanaka-sensei took Isumi and me to the staff room.
In the staff room, a middle-aged man was waiting for us. As soon as he saw Tanaka-sensei and us, he spoke up.
“Tanaka-sensei, are these the two who got into a violent altercation?”
“Yes, Vice Principal.”
Vice Principal? Oh, now I remember. It was mentioned in Kageyoi’s diary. If I recall correctly, he’s Sasakura’s relative or something.
And now, this situation…
The Vice Principal approached us, his gaze fixed on us…
“I see. The twins who had an accident by darting into the road the other day. I heard they returned to school today, but to think they would immediately cause a violent incident. It’s nothing short of exasperating.”
Tanaka-sensei bowed apologetically to the Vice Principal.
“Some of the delinquent students in our class have caused trouble for Sasakura-kun. I truly apologize.”
“There’s no need for you to apologize, Tanaka-sensei. Troublemakers like these delinquent students have always existed regardless of the era. They really are a nuisance.”
Then, the Vice Principal directed a disdainful gaze at us, as if he were looking at garbage.
“They should have stayed in the hospital if they were in an accident.”
“As the Vice Principal says, indeed. Especially this boy – Kageyo is a real problem child. I’ve been a teacher for a long time, but I’ve never encountered a student as hopeless as him. It would have been better for society if he were dead.”
What did they just say?
To think they said that a student should have died for the sake of the world.
I was now absolutely certain.
These two are unfit to be teachers.
“Hahaha, that’s right. In the first place, they’re in fifth grade and still thoughtlessly darted into the road. It’s evidence of their parents’ lack of education. They’re causing trouble for drivers too. Perhaps their parents encouraged them to jump in front of a car, hoping to claim compensation.”
“I see, so they’re scam artists. It seems plausible.”
Having said that, the two of them laughed heartily.
These guys!
They’re spouting baseless and absurd assumptions!
Moreover, what really happened in that accident!
…No, I can’t let my anger take over. I need to stay calm. I should remind myself to be rational… But that’s not an ability possessed by Isumi, aka the noble hero of justice.
“You guys! You just think you can stay silent and get away with it! You’re even more wicked than the Demon Lord!”
Isumi yelled and delivered a kick to Tanaka-sensei’s abdomen. She then attempted to pounce on the Vice Principal.
I quickly grabbed Isumi’s arm to stop her.
“Enough, Isumi.”
“Let go, Demon Lord! These guys are a menace! I’ll eliminate them in the name of the hero!”
Whether it’s Sasakura or Isumi, why do they have such a short fuse? Resorting to violence without even attempting a conversation is more like the work of monsters rather than humans. Maybe Isumi and Sasakura are not that different after all?
Such thoughts crossed my mind, but surely, the justice-seeking Isumi and the bully Sasakura are different. Though rampaging justice is just a nuisance.
The Vice Principal spoke to us.
“What a violent pair of twins.”
Hey, hold on, I haven’t been violent at all. On the contrary, I’m trying to restrain Isumi.
“And what’s all this talk about heroes and Demon Lords?”
The Vice Principal spread his hands in a resigned manner, and Tanaka-sensei responded,
“They’re probably talking about video games or something. Honestly, video games are nothing but harmful for kids.”
“Indeed, that’s absolutely right.”
I couldn’t care less about video games, but I felt the urge to defend myself.
However, violence is not the way to go. After all, they didn’t attack us or anything.
On that point, it’s isumi’s fault.
I let out a sigh and then told Tanaka-sensei,
“Well, it’s true that isumi was in the wrong for kicking you. I’ll apologize on her behalf.”
I bowed my head slightly.
But then Isumi shouted at me,
“Hey, Demon Lord! No need to apologize to these guys!”
While still restraining the struggling Isumi, I looked at the Vice Principal and said, “However…”
“I must request that you teachers refrain from delivering one-sided and baseless lectures.”
Upon hearing my words, Tanaka-sensei shouted, “What did you say!? Kageyo, how dare you talk back to the Vice Principal!”
Oh well, he probably believes that children will just shut up if he yells at them. Truly the worst kind of teacher.
Of course, it won’t work on me, the Demon Lord who has lived for 60 years.
I interrupted Tanaka-sensei’s chaotic shouting and said firmly, “First of all!”
“If we talk about the incident with Sasakura, he was the one who attacked first. Furthermore, he even attempted to hit our classmate, Sora Aoi. He even declared that he would lay hands on our younger siblings, who are still in kindergarten. It’s only natural for Isumi to be angry.”
With that, Tanaka-sensei fell silent.
“Sure, it might have been a bit too much for Isumi to step on the fallen opponent’s back, but even so, if you’re going to scold someone, it should be Sasakura first. Even if the school’s policy is to treat both parties in a fight equally, there’s no reason for only us to be unilaterally called out.”
By the way, it’s not like I’ve been violent either. Well, I’ll keep that to myself.
The Vice Principal narrowed his eyes and said, “I see.”
“Tanaka-sensei, is what he’s saying true?”
“Absolutely not! Sasakura-kun is an outstanding student. As expected of the Vice Principal’s nephew, he is a leader in the class. A true model student.”
Oh, give me a break.
If he’s considered a model student, then this school is in serious trouble.
Well, in a way, he might be a leader in the class – in the sense of dominating through violence.
“I see. No wonder the teachers who join the bullying with the students have a different opinion.”
“W-What are you talking about!?”
“You blatantly ignore me during attendance checks. It’s not just today; you did it even before the accident.”
“Don’t talk nonsense!”
“And the fact that both of you have said things like ‘it would be better if the students died’ makes me question if you are qualified to be teachers.”
I said that and gave a smirk.
Tanaka-sensei yelled at me, “You little brat!”
He shouted and slapped my cheek!
Well, that actually hurt.
I grinned.
“Now that evens things out for the kick Isumi gave you.”
“What?”
“There might be a difference between a kick and a slap, but there’s also a difference in strength between an adult and a child, right?”
Tanaka-sensei’s face turned red with anger.
“Y-You delinquent brats!”
He yelled again and this time tried to punch me.
I let go of Isumi’s arm and stepped back.
Tanaka-sensei’s fist missed its target completely.
“Hmm, Tanaka-sensei seems to lack exercise. Sasakura’s punch was much faster,” I chuckled.
As I was laughing, Tanaka-sensei picked up a pencil from the desk and threw it at me. Of course, I easily dodged it.
“Hey, come on, throwing things at me is going too far.”
Now, he was holding a wooden stick-like object placed beside the desk. It seemed to have markings on it, perhaps a ruler? It was unusually long, almost the same height as Kageyo.
“Hey, what are you doing?”
I’ve managed to dodge everything so far, but in this confined room, I could quickly find myself cornered. Should I fight back or escape into the hallway? Escaping would be easy, but leaving Isumi alone worried me. Not because she might get hurt, but she might go on a rampage and knock out both Tanaka-sensei and the Vice Principal.
Fighting back was an option, but using violence against teachers wouldn’t be a smart move, no matter the reason. If my parents, especially Akari, found out I laid hands on a teacher, they would be devastated.
As I pondered my options, the door at the back of the classroom opened. There stood a white-haired man and, surprisingly, Sora with an anxious expression.
“Stop it!”
As the white-haired man shouted, Tanaka-sensei froze in his tracks.
“W-Weren’t you supposed to be out for an education committee meeting today?”
“I had plans for that, but I just received news of its postponement. That aside, what on earth is going on here?”
The white-haired man, the principal, glared at both Tanaka-sensei and the Vice Principal.
