Chapter 7 The Demon King and the Hero, Returning Home
Shaken by the ride in a mysterious car, it felt like ten minutes had passed in this world’s time. We arrived in front of the “Kamiya Residence.”
Stepping out of the car, my legs were trembling uncontrollably.
“I-I thought I was going to die…” I muttered helplessly.
If it weren’t for the eyes of Isumi and the other family members, I might have collapsed right there. That’s how terrifying the car journey was.
After all, it was much faster than a horse-drawn carriage. I feared I would be buried in the seat when it started moving.
And yet, people in this world, without even wearing armor, strolled casually along the roads where these cars darted around. Are the inhabitants of this world sane!? Even in a world without wars, it’s impossible to live with peace of mind when cars are zipping around like this!
No wonder Kamiya Kageyo and Kamiya Isumi, the twins, were involved in an accident! It’s nothing short of a miracle that they made it from the hospital to here without another mishap!
However, for Hikaru, Akari, and Higakure, there seemed to be nothing to fear.
I whispered softly, making sure only Isumi could hear me.
“This is unbelievable…”
Yet, Isumi tilted her head and asked, “Is that so?”
Hmm, has she already overcome her fear of cars?
“It’s quite a pleasant ride, isn’t it? Much faster and smoother than a horse-drawn carriage. If we had cars, our adventure to the Demon King’s castle would have been much easier.”
I couldn’t believe it. If this justice-filled hero had been driving the car, the demon tribe’s citizens, young and old, would’ve been run over without mercy.
“I couldn’t help worrying about accidentally hitting a child or crashing into a building.”
“Hahaha! The Demon King sure is a timid one. I like that. I definitely want to try driving it myself next time.”
Hmm… My legs are still shaking, but… No, I can’t afford to be so pathetic. I don’t want to be ridiculed by Isumi or Hikaru, and I shouldn’t make our parents worry either.
“Well, well, it seems there are traffic signals, so as long as we don’t make mistakes while driving, we should be fine. Although it seems you can’t get a license to drive a car until you’re 18 years old.”
“Is that so?”
“Show some interest in this world, will you?”
We had seen on TV that kids couldn’t drive. Isumi should have watched it too.
“That’s unfortunate. I’ll have to wait two more years before I can drive.”
“No, that’s not right. You’ll have to wait seven more years.”
“Huh? I’m 16 years old.”
“Kamiya Kageyo and Isumi are 11 years old.”
“Argh, being treated like little kids is humiliating.”
It’s just a five-year age gap between 16 and 11.
But I have become 50 years younger in this world.
“By the way, skirts are not easy to walk in. I envy your shorts.”
“I heard that human women in our original world wore skirts.”
“That’s true, but I’ve never worn one. I can’t properly adventure or fight dressed like this.”
“You don’t really need to do any of that anymore. You’re not a hero but an elementary school student.”
“Ugh.”
But now that I think about it, Isumi and I are casually conversing in Japanese without even noticing it.
If we don’t pay attention, the words of this world won’t come out.
Maybe it’s because everyone around us is speaking Japanese, or perhaps Zekar did something extra when he implanted languages into our heads.
Either way, Hikaru, who had been listening to our conversation from behind, murmured to herself.
“Kageyo, big brother, and Isumi, big sister, still seem a bit different.”
Akari opened the front door, and we entered the house.
The Kamiya residence was a two-story house with a kitchen, living room, our parents’ bedroom, a washroom, toilet, and a bathroom on the first floor.
We haven’t been upstairs yet, but that’s where Kageyo and Isumi’s children’s room is located.
As Hikaru is still a kindergartener, she spends most of her time on the first floor rather than in the children’s room.
Although I was curious about the twins’ childhood room, Akari instructed us to wash our hands first and head to the living room.
I followed Isumi and Hikaru to the washroom, slightly worried about finding my way, but the house wasn’t that big, and as long as I followed Hikaru, there were no issues.
By the way, the plumbing in this world is amazing.
With just a little twist of the “faucet,” an endless supply of water pours out. Moreover, the water is so clean that you can drink it directly without needing to heat it.
Water was a precious commodity in the continent where the demon tribe lived. Many people had to survive by drinking muddy water, leading to frequent outbreaks of diseases.
If only I could have brought this water to the demon tribe…
With those thoughts in mind, I let out a sigh, “Phew.”
Such futile daydreams.
I am no longer the Demon King, Saturnus Benes; I am now just a Japanese elementary school student named Kamiya Kageyo.
After washing my hands with the water flowing from the faucet and using soap, the three of us headed to the living room.
