Mayuten ~The Demon King and the Hero Reincarnated as Twin Elementary School Students~
Prologue – The Final Battle of the Beginning, and Reincarnation in Another World
The Demon Lord’s Castle, on the Throne Room.
As I sat on the throne with my legs crossed, a young female hero pointed her sword at me.
“Demon Lord Benes, prepare yourself!”
Her beautiful face was tainted with the blue blood of demons.
So, General Bales has been defeated as well.
Now, in this castle… the only remaining member of the Demon Lord’s army is me—Saturnus Benes, the Demon Lord.
“Well done for making it this far, Hero Shirene Feniche.”
Hero Shirene expressed a surprised expression upon hearing my words.
“Do you know my name?”
I chuckled and looked down upon her.
“Of course. If I do not even know the name of the one who destroyed my subordinates, my subjects, and my clan, then I am far from deserving the title of a king.”
The hero furrowed her brows in anger and glared at me.
“What are you saying? It is you who have killed countless humans, elves, and dwarves!”
I couldn’t help but think, “How young she is.”
The unwavering conviction that young people possess, without a single doubt about their own righteousness.
Her straightforward gaze was too dazzling for me.
She was an innocent girl to the extent that I found myself envious.
That’s precisely why I feel a sense of disgust towards the adults of the human race who have exalted and burdened such a girl, even with such innocence, as a hero and placed the entire responsibility of the war upon her.
In any case, I am the Demon Lord, and she is the hero.
Therefore, there is only one thing I must do.
As the king of the demons, I will engage in a final battle with this young hero.
I stood up calmly and wielded the pitch-black demon sword.
—And so, our ultimate showdown began.
The battle between us became a fierce struggle for survival.
Both of us were wounded, with our strength and magical powers on the verge of depletion.
As I took a step forward, preparing for my final attack—
“I’ve done it!”
With that shout, the hero unleashed her trump card.
“Demon Lord, behold! This is the ultimate magic bestowed upon me by the Grand High Priest! Self-sacrifice spell, Balas Eternity!”
The self-sacrifice spell, Balas Eternity.
A self-destructive magic that is activated at the cost of one’s own life.
An explosion of such magnitude that it would obliterate the entire Demon Lord’s Castle.
It erased not only my life and physical form as the Demon Lord but also everything in its wake.
—And then.
I slowly opened my eyes.
A world filled with light.
So, this is… the afterlife, huh?
Beside me lies the beautiful female hero, fallen.
Ah, I see. So, she has also arrived here.
I genuinely think to myself,
What a foolish thing to do.
If it means taking my life, so be it.
This was a war.
I’ve already lived for sixty years.
As she said, I have killed numerous humans, elves, and dwarves.
I have imposed countless sacrifices upon my demon subordinates and subjects.
Now that I’ve been killed, I have no intention of uttering words of resentment.
However, she is merely sixteen years old.
To think that such a young person would use a self-sacrifice spell.
According to what I’ve heard, the human High Priest is ninety years old.
A ninety-year-old elder teaching a sixteen-year-old girl a self-sacrifice spell—how absurd.
What are they making this pure-hearted girl, who believes in justice, do?
No, perhaps I am no different.
Among my subordinates, there were many teenagers as well.
They, too, sacrificed their lives in this war.
In the war started by my father, the former Demon Lord, and the previous human king, young individuals became casualties.
I am equally guilty for not being able to stop that war.
—And then, the hero opened her eyes.
“Where… is this? Y-You’re the Demon Lord!? Why are you still alive?!”
The hero points her sword at me.
Oh well. Even in death, the flames of justice still reside in her eyes.
Now, what should I do?
But there was no need to worry.
Before I could ponder, a towering old man with magnificent white hair appeared before the hero and me, and began speaking unilaterally.
“You’ve done well, Hero Shirene Feniche, and Demon Lord Saturnus Benes.”
Startled by the sudden appearance of the giant, the hero widened her eyes and exclaimed, “Who are you!?”
“I am Zekar.”
“Zekar… Could it be, the Creator God Zekar?”
“That is correct.”
The hero dropped to her knees and bowed her head. For her, the Creator God must be an absolute deity.
Meanwhile, I glared at Zekar with bitterness.
“What business does the orchestrator of this war have, appearing now?”
Upon hearing my words, it was the hero who reacted before Zekar did.
“The orchestrator of this war? What are you talking about, Demon Lord Benes?!”
As I suspected, the hero is unaware.
Perhaps the human High Priest has some inkling of it.
No, those who have indoctrinated the hero to believe that defeating the Demon Lord is the ultimate justice would never reveal the true nature of the world to her.
I could explain it to her, but she probably wouldn’t believe me anyway.
Ignoring the hero and me, Zekar continued speaking.
“This is the Realm of Light, where the souls of the deceased arrive.”
Indeed, so it is.
In other words, we have come here because we died, to the afterlife.
The hero seems to have grasped that as well.
“Then… I have finally defeated the Demon Lord, haven’t I?”
With her hands clasped together in prayer, tears of joy welled up in the hero’s eyes.
Truly, she is a naive girl.
I’m actually impressed by the human king and High Priest who managed to indoctrinate such a young girl to this extent.
Zekar laughed as he continued.
“That is correct. You have defeated the Demon Lord at the cost of your own life.”
“Ah, Creator God! So now peace will come to the world, won’t it?”
With innocent excitement, the hero exclaimed, and Zekar chuckled in response.
“Your battle was truly magnificent. We thoroughly enjoyed it.”
With those words, I became certain.
“So, it was indeed true. From the very beginning, you orchestrated this battle.”
This Creator God, solely for their own amusement, created the demons and other races and made them fight each other.
The hero is perplexed by my words.
“What do you mean?”
Of course, she wouldn’t understand. She has been indoctrinated with the simplistic belief of “Demons = Evil, Humans = Justice.”
In her innocent state, I can’t help but feel pity.
Zekar, with a condescending tone, announced to us.
“We shall reward the great hero and Demon Lord who fought with their lives on the line. I shall grant one wish, anything you desire.”
What kind of reward is this?
It makes me sick.
However, the hero offered her wish to the deity.
“Then my wish is simple: to bestow blessings upon the people.”
Zekar nodded in response to the hero’s pure-hearted wish.
“Hmm, very well. Let us bless all lives.”
What kind of blessing is that?
Such ambiguity holds no guarantee or practical benefit.
“Demon Lord, what is your desire?”
Indeed.
There is nothing I could possibly wish for from such a being at this point.
—No.
“In that case, grant the hero a peaceful reincarnation in a world of peace. In her next life, may she live tranquilly without having to fight. You surely possess such power.”
This Creator God governs lives.
While it may be impossible for all the victims, at the very least, for this pitiful girl…
With that thought in mind, the hero exclaimed.
“What are you up to, Demon Lord!? We don’t need your pity now!”
That’s right, isn’t it?
However, even so…
A girl burdened with the fate of a hero since birth, manipulated by adults, and ultimately sacrificing herself using a self-sacrifice spell in the midst of battle.
I couldn’t help but wish for her happiness in the next life.
“Very well. How about I reincarnate both of you, there are young twins who died in a peaceful world?”
What? Reincarnate me too?
“You don’t have to reincarnate me if you don’t want to. “
“But isn’t it intriguing to see what happens if the Demon Lord and the Hero are reborn as twins in a peaceful world?”
This guy! Is he planning to toy with us even in the next life!?
“As your new life, you’ll be reborn in a different world called ‘Earth,’ in a country named ‘Japan.’ Your names will be Kageyo Kamiya and Isumi Kamiya. You’ll be 11 years old, and for now, let me etch the local language into your minds.”
Zekar said only that much and pointed his right hand towards us.
His hand started to emit an eerie light.
I shouted in a panic.
“Hold on a moment!”
However, Zekar completely ignored my words and exerted his power.
“Then, in your next life, I shall entertain myself again.”
With those words, my consciousness faded once more.
――And then.
When I regained consciousness, I found myself lying on a bed.
Simultaneously, a young girl, who seemed to be of the human race, clung to my chest.
“Kageyo oniichan, you’re awake!?”
Unknown words.
Yet, I could understand them naturally.
I took a closer look around the room.
There were three of us in this room, including myself.
Apart from the young girl and me, there was another girl lying in a separate bed.
She, too, seemed to be waking up slowly.
The young girl noticed it and let out a joyful exclamation.
“Big sister Isumi, has also woken up!”
The girl addressed as Isumi sat up and looked around. Then, she muttered in a daze using words I knew.
“What’s going on? Where is this? What about the Demon Lord, Benes? And Lord Zekar…?”
I see.
Just as Zekar said, I, the Demon Lord Saturnus Benes, have been reincarnated into a boy named Kageyo Kamiya in Japan, and the hero Shirene Feniche has become a girl named Isumi Kamiya.
―― This is a tale of the two, once the Demon Lord and the Hero, starting a new life.
―― It’s the story of the twins, a boy and a girl, who were reincarnated in peaceful Japan after finishing their fateful battle.
