I’ll Take Care Of It.
“Say…”
I stared in dismay at the carved out mountain.
It was obvious that the cause was the magic released by Femu.
However, I have only heard of individuals in fairy tales who can use magic on such a large scale without any prior signs, let alone chanting.
And I still can’t believe that it was done right in front of my eyes, even with the evidence in front of me.
“Right… Femu.. Femu, are you okay?”
I turned back in the direction where that girl in the robe should have been.
She was frozen with her eyes wide open, looking exactly the same as she did when she saw my face.
Our gazes meet again.
“I-I’m sorry…!”
Her voice trembled with fear because of the scale of what she had done.
She put her robe back on again and ran away from me.
“H-hey! Wait!”
“Cough, what was that… What happened…?”
As I was about to follow Femu, I heard Isuna’s voice from behind me.
“Isuna, are you hurt?”
I rushed to her side and asked.
Her body was covered in dust and sand scattered by the blast.
I couldn’t leave Femu alone, but I also needed to make sure that Isuna, who was right in front of me, was safe and sound.
“I-I’m not hurt, but… What is that ….the mountain is in a very funny shape….”
Isuna also noticed it belatedly and stared at it with a bloodshot expression on her face.
No matter how many times I see it, it is an unrealistic sight, but it is undeniably real.
If Isuna had taken one more step forward at that moment instead of calling out to me, that thing could have hit her directly.
Just thinking about it gives my nerves chills.
“Where are San and Fia?”
“They both went back indoors first, so I think they are fine…. What was that… Did Femu did that…?”
Isuna sounded a mixture of confusion and fear.
“Yeah, but it wasn’t intentional. It was clearly just out of control magic.”
“Out of control .. and still….”
Isuna gulped as she looked toward the vanished mountain again.
“I’m going to look for Femu for now. You go report to Rosé.”
“Y-yeah. …Okay.”
We decided what each of us should do and split up.
I don’t know where Femu went.
For now, I have to search everywhere I can think of.
She ran inside the mansion.
First, I stood in front of the door at the far end of the corridor where the sisters’ rooms were lined up.
It was Femu’s room, but there was no sign of anyone inside.
Feeling sorry for myself, I opened the door a little and took a peek inside.
The room was empty except for a bookshelf lined with many books.
However, Femu was nowhere to be seen.
I thought she was back in her room, but it seems I was too naive.
I looked everywhere I had seen Femu in the past, including the classroom, the dining room, and the garden, but I couldn’t find her at all.
I regretted in my heart that I still didn’t know much about Femu.
“Frey-sama.”
While continuing to search for Femu, I ran into Rosé.
“Rosé, did Isuna tell you what’s going on?”
Yes, she also said you are looking for Femu-sama.”
“Yeah, have you seen her?”
“No, But I told RIno to look for her just in case, but no one has reported finding her yet.”
“I see…”
I could see that even Rosé herself had been looking for her, and her breathing had become ragged, albeit slightly.
“Did you know about that thing at Femu?”
“I had heard that there were a lot of magic-related anomalies happening around here, but I never thought it would be as bad as it was…”
Rosé muttered as she looked at the large gouged out mountains in the distance.
Even for this maid, this was an event that far exceeded her expectations, and I could sense the frustration in her every word.
“Is everyone else all right?”
“Yes, we have confirmed that everyone is safe and sound. There is no major damage to any structures on the premises.”
“It’s a blessing in disguise. I’m going to search outside, you take care of the house.”
“Yes, sir.”
We split up and went out of the mansion again.
My next destination was beyond the square where we had been practicing in the morning.
I had no certainty, but that was the only other place I could think of.
I crossed the tree I had told Isuna to target this morning and went into the bushes.
If Femu wasn’t lying, her favorite spot should be just up ahead.
I wade through the miscellaneous overgrown, waist-high grass and continue deeper into the area.
Looking around, I proceeded carefully to make sure I didn’t miss anything and found a spot where the grass and trees had thinned out.
A tree cave at the base of one of the largest trees.
In it, I found a girl curled up on her knees.
“I finally found you.”
Perhaps in response to my voice, her head slowly moved and turned towards me.
The pretty face was hidden and a large cloth was once again draped over it.
“It’s a nice place. I can certainly read a lot here.”
All that can be heard are the sounds of nature, the wind and the grass and trees.
The only other sounds are the occasional chirps of birds and animals.
I would say that this is a perfect place to read.
“Sorry….”
Femu again muttered a faint apology that seems to be about to fade away.
“What are you apologizing for? Is it about that magic? Or is it that you suddenly ran away? If it’s the former, it’s okay. No one was hurt and nothing was broken. Isuna just needs a quick shower.”
I need to reassure this girl first.
If the cause of that outbreak was what I think it is, it could happen again if I don’t.
“I’m not mad about the latter either, although it did take some effort to find you here.”
I bent down and adjusted my eye level to Femu.
When I looked closer, I saw that the robe that covered her body had been caught in a tree many times, and was tattered in many places.
It was clear that she ran here as if she was trying to escape after that.
“I’m sorry….”
With her face down and her body trembling slightly, she uttered her third apology.
“That was some amazing magic, by the way. I’ve never seen magic on that scale in more than 20 years of my life.”
Femu held her knees and said nothing with her face down.
As for that supposedly out of control magic, neither Rosé nor any of her sisters knew.
She probably didn’t want to bother anyone and kept it to herself.
Perhaps there was something in her past.
I don’t mean to pry that much, but I can imagine to some extent.
But still, this child is here now.
It was not simply because of her father’s order, but because she wanted to do something about it.
Then there is only one thing for me to do here.
“It’s okay.”
I make a clenched fist with one hand and hold it out where Femme can see it.
“I’ll take care of it.”
Then, with a thumbs up, I declared.
