Strategic-Level Magic.
It was a book that was very familiar to me as a human being.
“Isn’t it ‘The Tales of Earth Terah!'”
‘The Tales of Earth Terah’ was an entertaining novel set in the fictional world of Earth Terah.
It was a novel that was popular among men and women of all ages for its worldview that was so well developed, that it seemed to really exist, and for the stories woven around its many fascinating characters.
“You like it too, Femu!?”
“Too…?”
Femu, who seemed a little flustered by my sudden excitement. I pulled out a book from inside my clothes.
“The truth is, I actually like it too.”
I showed Femu the book, which had the exact same cover.
At that moment, I was certain that Femu’s expression brightened, even though I could not see it because she was in the shadows.
I knew that she loved to read, but I never thought that she was a fan of entertainment novels from the human world.
Though I was not certain how she obtained it, I was pleased to see that we had something unexpected in common.
“Which stories do you like, Femu?”
I asked with the excitement of finding a peer.
Femu made a little thoughtful gesture, then thrust her arms out in front of her through her robe.
It was the same action she had shown to Eshuru-san during their previous meal.
Looking closely, I could see that the top of the robe was stretched out like a tent, as if she was thrusting her thumb into the robe.
“T-That’s… no way…”
It all connected with Femu’s love of the novel, same as mine.
“Volume III, the scene where Arnold the automaton sank into the lava? Indeed, that was a great scene that can’t be told without tears…”
Femu shook her head several times, somewhat more enthusiastic than usual.
“And you, sensei….?”
“Mine? I guess. It’s hard to say which is best but–“
With the excitement of finding like-minded people in a place I didn’t expect, I forgot about the morning practice and talked with Femu for a while.
“Ohhh… it’s already time…?”
The sun was almost at its peak.
It was time to eat lunch and got ready for classes at noon.
“…Later again, sensei.”
As I stood up and stretched lightly, Femu grabbed the hem of my dress and whispered in a small voice.
She seemed to want to talk to me again.
“Hmm? Indeed. But only if Femu would continue to take her classes seriously.”
When I said this to her, Femu nodded her head repeatedly, looking delighted.
“Well, I’d better get going. I need to get ready for my noon class.”
I put out my hand to help the girl in the robe stand up, and she grabbed my hand without showing any hesitation.
As I was about to stand up…
The robe Femu was wearing caught on a tree branch above her head.
“Ah”
By the time she realized it, it was too late.
Because she stood up with her head still hooked, the part of the robe covering her head came off, exposing Femu’s head.
The tips of her short, shiny silver hair were neatly trimmed.
Her eyes were still young, and her nose was well-defined, more prettier than beautiful.
Her round eyes were even more round, as if she was surprised by the sudden event.
However, what caught my attention the most was the translucent body, a characteristic of Casper.
Her hair and skin were translucent, and the other side of her body was slightly visible.
Then our eyes met, and the pure white skin that was slightly transparent turned bright red.
It was right after that.
Suddenly, a high-pitched ringing in my ears shook my eardrums.
What is this sound?
As soon as I thought that, my whole body was enveloped in a tremendous chill.
Before I knew it, a black sphere the size of a clenched fist appeared around the midpoint of my and Femu’s gazes.
I intuitively realized that it was the source of this chill.
It was a pitch black sphere without any luster, like a hole in the void.
It was an ultra-dense, pure magical element itself.
A mass of pure power.
I understood it not by knowledge or reason, but by instinct.
“Ah-! There you are, in a place like this! Oh, God! Don’t leave me!”
I heard Isuna’s voice from behind me.
‘Isuna! Get down!”
The moment I forced my body, covered with chills, to move, I screamed at Isuna.
As if reacting to Isuna’s voice, the black sphere flew soundlessly in a straight line toward the direction where she was.
It was just like what had happened earlier.
The difference was that the positions of Femu and Isuna were opposite and the amount of magic contained in the magic was also different by an incomparable order of magnitude.
“What? Kyaaaah!”
Isuna stopped moving at the sound of my voice, and the black sphere flew far behind her, plucking her dark green hair.
Without time to breathe a sigh of relief, the next moment, an intense flash of light enveloped the area so that I could not even open my eyes.
A moment later, there was a roar so loud that it almost ruptured my eardrums.
A blast of air flowed in from the direction from which the sphere had taken flight, as if it were about to blow away.
“What is it? What the hell is this!”
Isuna’s panicked voice could be heard slightly amidst the noise of the explosion.
“Isuna! Are you okay?”
“I-I’m fine, but what the hell happened!”
I had no idea what’s going on either.
Other than the fact that Femu was involved.
Gradually, the flashes and blasts subsided.
My vision cleared and I saw Isuna coughing, probably from inhaling dust and sand.
I was horrified just thinking about what would have happened if that had been a direct hit, but I was relieved to see that she seemed to be safe.
I shifted my gaze to the direction from which the black sphere had flown.
One of the mountains that should have been in the distance had disappeared, as if it had been cut out of a circle.
