Chapter 196 Shion Rescue Operation
Three weeks since work began.
Alsphere, the Fairy Forest, former Abyss.
The worksite is well-equipped, with several rest areas and temporary shelters for the workers.
Along with clearing the rubble, they’re also working on restoring the forest.
Leaving the rubble behind would surely ruin the landscape of Alsphere.
The fairies, having lost their village, have moved to places like the lake.
It seems that they can’t rebuild their village by themselves.
As for Marie…
She continued the work with a desperate expression.
Compared to the day she first awoke, the urgency on her face has softened a bit, but the desperation is still there.
And it’s no surprise — it’s already been three weeks since they started working.
Even if Shion was safe, if he had been under the rubble for three weeks, his chances of survival would drop dramatically.
The shorter the time to rescue, the higher the chances of survival.
Winona was taking care of the workers.
She brought out drinks, handed out towels, and prepared meals.
In truth, she wanted to help with the work, but realizing she wouldn’t be much help, she switched to assisting.
Count Goltba tried to join the work enthusiastically but hurt his back, so he had to leave.
He’s now handling the organization of the workforce, gathering rescue funds, and seeking influential supporters.
Dominic and the knights requested days off and funds to help with Shion’s rescue, as part of their reward for helping rescue the fairies and confronting the Abyss.
They’re working on the rubble-clearing alongside the other workers.
They’ve managed to clear quite a bit of the debris, but they still haven’t reached the hall where Shion is supposed to be.
Apparently, fairies can pass through materials, but entering the Abyss is difficult for them — likely due to the demonic magic within.
“Thank you for your hard work, Lady Marie. Here’s a drink for you.”
“Ah, thank you, Winona.”
Marie took the flask from Winona.
After quenching her thirst with water, she felt a bit revived.
“Um… how is the progress on the work?”
“It’s not going well. We still haven’t reached the hall, and there’s also the issue of food.”
In the hall, a few lightning lamps and almost everyone’s bags were left behind.
So there was minimal lighting, and if they rationed the food, it should last about a month.
However, there was no guarantee that all of that food and the lightning lamps were safe, and it was more likely that they’d been crushed by the collapse.
In other words, time was running out.
Marie believed that if it were Shion, he would use magic to deal with the collapse.
But the food issue couldn’t be solved with magic.
Even for Shion, creating food with magic would be impossible.
“Marie!”
“Marie!”
She heard familiar voices.
Marie turned around quickly, and there stood Gawain and Emma — her parents.
They quickly dismounted their horses and hurried over to embrace Marie.
“Father! Mother! Shion, Shion is…!”
“Yes, we read everything in your letter. You’ve done so well.”
“We’re so glad you’re safe, Marie… and Shion will surely be safe too.”
Their warmth filled Marie with joy.
The kindness of family, something she hadn’t felt in a long time, eased her anxieties.
All three of them were surely carrying their own fears.
They must have thought that Shion might not be safe.
But they held their heads high, choosing only positive words.
This wasn’t out of certainty.
They simply couldn’t move forward without thinking this way.
Marie stepped back from their embrace.
“Yes, I believe Shion will be safe too!
With everyone helping, I’m sure we’ll find Shion!”
“We believe it too. If it’s Shion, he’ll be alright.”
“That’s right. Shion always accomplishes amazing things.
This time will be no different!”
Her parents nodded firmly.
They were anxious and worried, but they also believed that Shion would be alright.
At that moment, Marie noticed a few people approaching from behind Gawain and Emma.
“Well, if it’s him, he’ll be fine.”
“Shion wouldn’t end things in a place like this. He’s such a magic fanatic; he’d probably be researching magic under the rubble.”
“…Haha… that sounds like him… Shion… will definitely be okay.”
“Glast! And Cole, Bridgit!”
Gawain’s friend, Glast the blacksmith, who’s like an uncle to Shion and Marie, was there, along with Cole and Bridgit, who had helped treat the Istria’s Lazy syndrom.
“Rafina couldn’t come due to family issues. Some friend she is, not showing up at a time like this.”
Cole spat out his words, but Marie was grateful just to have the two of them there. Behind them, yet another group was approaching.
“We heard Teacher Shion was in trouble, and we couldn’t just sit still… This is incredible.”
“S-so this is the Fairy Forest… and Teacher Shion is under here. We need to rescue him right away!”
“Is Teacher Shion safe? I really wanted him to try my new treats.”
“I-I’ll do everything I can to help!”
“Introducing Lord Isaac Messerschmidt, Lady Eris Esharos, Lady Sophia Souffle, and Lord Mice, who trained under Shion for lazy syndrome treatment! They offered their help with the rescue and have come along!”
At Count Gotlba’s introduction, each of them bowed.
Marie hadn’t met them before, but she’d heard about them from Shion.
“Honestly, that Shion! I won’t forgive him if he dies before I can repay him! Isn’t that right, everyone?”
“Yes, Boss!”
“It’s been a while, Lady Olof. Her Majesty ordered us to give our all in rescuing Lord Shion. He has also provided as much financial support as possible.”
“Lady Freya and all the craftsmen! And Lord Egon!”
Winona happily introduced them.
Freya and her subordinates were blacksmiths who had helped with magic tool development in Sanostria. And Egon was the trusted butler endorsed by Queen Milhya.
“Red, Maron, Rose, and the other villagers were worried too, but I couldn’t bring everyone here. The village is in the care of Duke Balkh, so there’s no issue.
Now, let’s join the rescue efforts ourselves!”
Gawain’s words were reassuring.
Shion was loved by many.
This filled Marie with pride and genuine joy from the depths of her heart.
She steeled herself against the tears that were threatening to fall and raised her hand.
“Let’s all work together to save Shion!”
“Yeah!”
At that moment, everyone united as one.
