Magic Maker – How to make magic in another world –
Chapter 191 With all my heart
The moment everyone escaped from the hall, the exit was sealed shut by falling rocks. There was no way out. Rapunzen emerged from the dust cloud. Surprisingly, Rapunzen seemed calm. The emotional demon from earlier was nowhere to be found. This is troublesome.
“I thought about chasing everyone, but…”
“Hmph, that brat Marie may be strong, but she’s not my match. The others are weaklings. Fairies have no fighting ability, and it would actually be advantageous for me if they were gone. But you’re different! You’re dangerous! During the battle, you used new magic, devised strategies, and coordinated attacks! If it weren’t for you, I would have already killed them all! I will kill you here! You, the descendant of Rugure who seeks revenge against demons!”
“That goes for me too. Rapunzen, I’ll kill you here! Demons are enemies of humanity! I won’t let anyone else die!”
They squared off against each other.
I immediately used Enchant Aqua. Once you understand the principle, enchantment is a relatively simple magic. However, it requires a high level of skill in precise mana manipulation and the use of Aqua. I fight with the power Marie showed me. I can’t defeat Rapunzen with magic alone. I have to engage in close combat, or Rapunzen won’t show any openings. My thoughts stop, my vision expands, and my magical senses sharpen. In an instant, Rapunzen comes at me like a spring. A sprint so fast it doesn’t even allow for blinking. But I completely grasp her movements. I can’t see her, but I can feel her. I avoid the fist reaching for my face by just tilting my head. As the thunderous sound reaches my ears with a delay, I lean forward and try to counterattack. But Rapunzen’s movements are agile. Despite being off balance due to the attack, she bends her soft upper body. As she rolls, her kicking foot appears in the corner of my vision. I guard with my arm, gather mana instantly, and use a shield. Along with a low growl, my skull distorts. I instantly kick the ground to stop my momentum.
“But… Ha!”
My body is blown several meters sideways. Ignoring the dull pain, I forcibly adjust my posture and immediately look at Rapunzen. She’s already closed the distance. A front kick that tears through the air. I won’t make it in time.
Then!
I cross my arms in a guarding position. At the same time, I close my eyes and focus on my magical senses. Visuals are too slow. Feel it with magic. Just before Rapunzen’s front kick touches my arm, I lean slightly forward and jump slightly backward. I take the impact in mid-air, and my body rotates forward. With that momentum, I swing my heel downward. My heel is sucked into the top of Rapunzen’s head.
“Urgh!?”
A dull sound echoes around. Numbness spreads from my toes. Direct hit. Rapunzen can’t even take a fall from the impact above. As she falls from above, cracks form in the ground. After landing a full turn, I immediately strike down with my fist on the back of Rapunzen’s head. However, Rapunzen twists her body to evade. I expose a big opening. Judging it as an opportunity, she instinctively throws a wide punch. Rapunzen’s fist approaches. If it connects, it’s a blow with enough magical power and force to be devastating.
“Aqua!”
I instantly chant a combination spell. I’ve reached my limit with just the minimum spell. Aqua emerges in front of me, protecting me. But Rapunzen doesn’t hesitate. She strikes me along with Aqua. Intense pain shoots through me. Unable to withstand the impact, I’m blown away to the embankment ten meters away. I crash violently, collapsing onto the ground. The greatest pain of my life. It’s clear my facial bones are broken.
I try to stand up, but my legs won’t cooperate. I’ve already used my heel several times, and it’s been tens of minutes since the fight started. I have almost no physical strength left, and my magic is running low. I knew I was reaching my limit.
Hurry up and stand!
She’s coming, Rapunzen!
I desperately lift my head. However, Rapunzen isn’t nearby. She hasn’t moved from her previous location; instead, she’s kneeling.
“Ugh, guh!!”
She groan while clutching her arm. Rapunzen’s arm is burnt like it got a scald. The Aqua I made on the spot contained high magical power. She must have stuck her arm into it; otherwise, she wouldn’t be in this state. Probably, it wouldn’t work with Aqua bullets because Rapunzen’s body surface is protected by magical power, acting like a shield. Rapunzen is skilled in handling shields, gathering magic to defend herself. Moreover, Aqua bullets slow down significantly when using a certain mass of water, roughly the size of a baseball. However, the Aqua I used earlier was the size of a basketball. Since it was just floating, there was no need to consider mass. In other words, Rapunzen stuck her hand into high-concentration magical power. As a result, she’s suffering from pain like sticking her hand into sulfuric acid. It seems fairy or human magic is toxic to demons.
It was an impulsive act, not intentional. But thanks to the knowledge, skills, and magic I’ve accumulated so far, I’ve been able to fight this far. Of course, it’s also thanks to the help of my comrades. All of it is being put to use. All of it is keeping me alive. I can’t help but feel grateful. I can’t suppress the usual smile welling up inside me. Despite my battered body, I just laughed as I managed to stand up.
“Ugh, huh, hehe, huhuhu!”
“W-Why are you laughing, you…!”
For some reason, Rapunzen seemed taken aback. She was looking at me with a pale face. It was unexpected for a demon to react like that. But her reaction only boosted my confidence further.
The opponent is a monster, a demon. But demons, like humans, feel fear towards the unknown or powerful entities. So, this battle is mine to win. Because I’m the one overwhelming her. In a sense, I’m the weird one.
Rapunzen’s magical power has decreased significantly. It’s probably because she’s using a massive amount of magic for each spell. She seems to be using a lot of magic for boosts and shields as well, so it doesn’t seem like she’s using magic efficiently. Maybe she doesn’t even care about efficiency, considering she has about 20 million magical power. Her magical power is probably down to about a million now. In contrast, I have around five thousand. It seems I finally managed to decrease her total magical power to the same level as mine. What a monster.
“The game is over! I’ll crush you with the next blow!”
“H-Haha… I was getting bored of this fight too!”
We both staggered to our feet and faced each other. There’s a difference in magical power, but it seems our physical stamina is equally close to its limit. Rapunzen raises both hands, and two giant boulders emerge from the rock wall. They resemble the fists of a golem, the same magic that attacked Marie. And there are two of them. It’s on a massive scale, filling the entire hall.
“Furthermore!”
Rapunzen causes arrows of stone to float around her. I’m stunned, at a loss for words. She’s using two spells simultaneously. It’s essentially composite magic, although technically, the spells are independent, so it feels more like simultaneous magic. Due to the excessive amount of magical power, both spells have lethal levels of potency. There’s no way to weave through the gaps between the giant boulders. There’s no opening to dodge through. Shields won’t be enough. My blood runs cold. I consider every magic I possess for a countermeasure, but none of them seem useful. Elemental magic, special magic, composite magic, combination magic, and even enchantment… None of them can counter that magic. It’s a surefire, unstoppable spell.
“Hahaha! With this, even water magic won’t stand a chance against me! Even if, by some miracle, you manage to dodge, with the remaining magic power you have, you can’t defeat me! You will die here!”
Two massive boulders and countless stone arrows were unleashed. Their speed was abnormal. Boosting was essential to evade, but with my current magical power, I couldn’t use it as freely as usual. I needed to conserve.
Cost: 500 magical power. Remaining: 4500.
Concentrating my magical awareness to avoid the boulders, I leaped to the side prominently. However, the stone arrows flew as if threading through gaps. A direct hit was unavoidable. I shielded my arm.
Cost: 500 magical power. Remaining: 4000.
Breathing heavily, my body ached. I wasn’t sure if I could move anymore. In a numb state, I desperately moved my legs. The other boulder was now approaching straight at me, seemingly no longer under control. One boulder collided with the other, launching it into the air, filling my field of vision. I used Jump three times, almost sliding on the ground.
Magical power remaining: 3900.
More stone arrows approached, and I raised a shield. However, I couldn’t block them all, and some pierced through, cutting my skin. To keep pushing forward through the torrential rain of stone arrows, magical power consumption surged.
Cost: 2000 magical power. Remaining: 1900.
I was getting closer to Rapunzen. The boulder bounced and approached from behind. There was no escape! I instinctively used Jump and leaped from the spot. The stone arrows were still closing in. I managed to endure them with a shield in midair, but lacking magical power, one of the stone arrows pierced my abdomen.
Cost: 900 magical power. Remaining: 1000.
And then… I reached Rapunzen’s presence. Behind me, the boulders and stone arrows had wreaked havoc.
“I’m surprised you made it this far,” Rapunzen said, displaying a look of astonishment. Up close, Rapunzen was clearly battered and bruised. She was breathing heavily, sweating profusely, in tatters, with no trace of composure. Her magical power had significantly diminished, nearing its limit.
“But you’ll soon die,” Rapunzen gloated, baring her fangs. Several stone arrows were lodged in my body, blood flowing steadily. There were hardly any safe spots left. The intense pain had already faded, replaced by lethargy and a sense of loss. I had bled too much. Magical power was on the verge of depletion. I had no more strength left. Just standing was a struggle. I couldn’t even spare the magical power to use Heal. I had only a thousand magical power left, about the same total magical power as when I began using magic. With this, defeating Rapunzen was impossible. In contrast, Rapunzen still had around ten thousand magical power.
“I commend you for cornering me this far, human! But it ends here! I’ll erase everything! After killing you, I’ll take a break for a while, and then I’ll slaughter all humans!!”
Magical power gathered in Rapunzen’s fist. I had no shield left. I would likely be killed in one blow. Rapunzen’s movements were slow. Perhaps she lacked the energy, or maybe she thought I had no energy left to dodge. Either way, I couldn’t avoid it. My body wouldn’t move. I had lost sensation in my legs and ended up kneeling.
Was there no way out? No way to kill this demon? No trump card? Think. I had always overcome challenges by thinking. But now, my mind wouldn’t work. I could feel the blood overflowing. This was my life. If the blood continued to flow, I would die.
Die here. Me. Even though I still wanted to research magic. I wanted to develop new magic and magical technologies. There was so much more I wanted to know. About fairies, about this world. Father and mother would be sad. Would my friends mourn for me? They probably would all cry. Queen Milhya would be angry. Disappointed, despairing, troubled. I couldn’t respond to Winona’s confession. She had gathered the courage to express her feelings, but I couldn’t respond. Marie knew we weren’t related by blood. I couldn’t say anything to her. She was important to me, yet I couldn’t treat her as such. If I died here, it would all be in vain.
The people I care about would be sad. I don’t want to die. I can’t die. I won’t die! Kill her! Kill the demon, Rapunzen! Use magic! Anything, find a spell to defeat her! Come up with something in these few seconds!
My thoughts briefly halted. It felt like time had stopped, and a rush of memories flooded in. Every memory. Was this a flashback? Does this mean I’m going to die? Memories of childhood, the first time I used magic, memories with Marie, family memories, memories with comrades and friends, memories of battles, memories of monsters, memories of fairies, memories of travels, memories of encounters. Various memories flowed one after another. Before I could even feel nostalgia, I was just stunned, watching the memories. Before I could despair at the end, the memories abruptly stopped.
And then, the last image that floated into my mind was strangely that of Einzwerf. Rapunzen swung her fist down. I just watched it happen.
