Chapter 174 Fourteen-year-old
Six months have passed since then.
I turned fourteen.
Every day, we come to the Fairy Forest, Alsphere, and fulfill our respective duties.
And today, our efforts have finally borne fruit.
“… I’ve deciphered it.”
The book written in fairy language borrowed from the Fairy Village.
I have finished deciphering all the fairy language.
I couldn’t control my trembling body filled with emotion and a sense of accomplishment.
Count Goltba, too, was looking at me with moist eyes.
Carla had a wry smile on her face.
Winona was already crying.
And Melfi applauded happily.
“Yay! I deciphered it!”
“We did it! Now we can read the entire book!”
“It’s been a while since I felt this sense of accomplishment! The greatest linguist!”
“Y-Yes, we did it, everyone… I-I’m happy too!”
“Congratulations! Well done! Well done!’”
Celebrating and dancing together, the five of us.
It was long. Really long.
To think it would take so much time just to decipher a single book.
Of course, it wasn’t just reading; we were also analyzing the grammar, categorizing magical hues, and understanding the meanings. As a result, the dictionary of fairy language is quite extensive.
Also, since we were simultaneously working on spoken fairy language, that added to the time it took.
Thanks to that, I can now speak most of the spoken fairy language. While I haven’t mastered all the fairy characters, I can read and write quite well, especially with the non-complex characters.
It’s like having language skills equivalent to a junior high school student. This refers more to an individual’s vocabulary and conversational abilities in their native language than general academic proficiency.
Having acquired a new language, this should be sufficient.
“I still don’t know what these strange characters were for, though.”
Carla pointed at the Japanese characters for ‘Earth.’
As these characters were completely different from the fairy language, I played dumb too.
In the end, the text itself, including the mention of Earth, wasn’t anything significant.
Well, it might be important in a sense.
The text simply stated, “I know about Earth.”
Since the word Earth was mentioned, the content was somewhat predictable.
However, there was no other description related to Earth.
If the writer knows about Earth, they might know why I was reincarnated.
But, in the end, I couldn’t figure out who wrote it.
“Oh my, have you finished deciphering the book?”
Marie and Dominic returned, rejoicing.
Seems like their usual patrol in the forest and sword training had ended.
Marie has matured considerably in these six months.
I had thought she was growing rapidly before, but there’s a significant change in her in just half a year.
Primarily in her physique. I don’t like that expression… Especially the development in her chest.
While it used to be moderate, it now leans more towards substantial.
Come to think of it, Mom also had quite a remarkable figure, so it might be genetic.
However, it’s not as big as Mom’s. Perhaps she’s in the midst of transitioning from a girl to an adult.
Marie might still continue to grow.
I’ve also grown. I’ve gained some height, and my skeletal structure has become more robust.
However, I’m a bit troubled by not being very tall.
Without revealing such concerns, I responded to Marie.
“Yeah, sis! We finally did it! Now we can read fairy language!”
“That’s wonderful. Oh well, I guess I have to study too… Only Dominic and I can’t read fairy language.”
That’s right. Actually, in these six months, Carla has become capable of casting spells too. All members of the deciphering team can now read and write fairy language and are proficient in spoken fairy language without using magic.
“Well, it can’t be helped. Both you and Dominic were practicing magic after all.”
“Yeah, that’s right. Thanks to that, we’ve become somewhat proficient. Dominic too.”
“Hehehe, well, you know, my talent is frightening. Who would’ve thought I’d be able to use magic too?”
“Don’t get too carried away.”
Marie sighed as Dominic laughed heartily. But, in reality, Dominic has also become capable of using magic. Of course, compared to me and Marie, he’s quite clumsy at it. Still, the fact remains that Dominic, who wasn’t originally a magic user, has grown enough to handle magic.
However, we haven’t told Dominic about magic. Of course, it’s also a secret from Carla. While they seem trustworthy, both of them are on the side of King Mediph. Dominic is a royal guard, and Carla is conducting research with us under the king’s decree. I understand their personalities and believe they are good people. However, even with good relationships, circumstances and situations can lead to hostility. I don’t want that with them. For these reasons, we haven’t told them about magic up to now.
By the way, the progress of our research in the past six months has been reported to King Ralfgang. The royal guards report our situation, while Carla reports on linguistics and magic. There’s no need to hide anymore, and I have no intention to do so. However, I can’t speak about magic.
Anyway, today, let’s just celebrate the successful deciphering of the fairy language. With this, our research on the fairy language has come to a close.
